Welcome, Friends! The 48th edition of the Buckeye Morgan Challenge promises to be one of the biggest, most star-studded horse shows of your summer! It s an exciting time for our show, highlighted by our big move to the Champions Center in 2017. With continuing positive changes and new features, the Buckeye is a show you don t want to miss! On Friday night we will hold an extremely prestigious class, awarding the richest and most coveted purse offered in our breed. We are excited and honored to be hosting the 2018 Morgan Weanling Gala! The evening will begin with some of the breed s most beautiful foals in a class that you have to be there to fully appreciate. And the night will end with the summer s most festive exhibitors party, with great food, music and games that will have everyone laughing and talking for days. You ll notice other exciting new changes in our schedule, including two new classes from the popular new Ranch Horse Pleasure division. All accounts indicate that this is a fun way to enjoy horse shows. And at the Buckeye, we re all about the fun factor! Because we love our exhibitors and sponsors, we do everything we can to make things easier for you! We want moving in to be as painless as possible. Before you even leave home, the stall charts will be posted so you know right where to go. We coordinate stall mat installation with shavings deliveries and can even arrange to have your stalls bedded for you. We bring the coffee and doughnuts around to you in the barns at 6:00 every morning. We provide a community groom box in the warm-up ring for anyone who may have forgotten something back at the barn. If you sign up for the App, you can even get a text message before every session with the complete, updated time schedule with class counts. We feed you from start to finish. Sweet Treat boxes at your stalls on Tuesday, an elegant Welcome Brunch on Wednesday, Pizza on Thursday night, Ringside Table Treats, and the Exhibitor s Celebration Party on Morgan Weanling Gala night. Whew! You may actually get tired of being pampered. As a team dedicated to the love of the Morgan horse, those of us on the Ohio Morgan Horse Association Board of Directors want to provide a great showcase for the breed, and for your horses. Safe travels and good luck! Show manager, Sandy Sessink 1

You may work or lunge in that ring as long as we are not holding classes, or setting up for carriage or dressage. A schedule for the outside covered arena will be posted in the show office. The official warm up ring, which is immediately adjacent to the show ring, will only be open to horses in the very next class. When using the official warm up ring, please respect your proximity to the show ring. There will be no whip cracking, baby powder or noise making allowed. Horses are then individually asked to jump two fences 1 6-2 6 in height and hand gallop one way of the ring. 19 $50 $25 $10 NO FEE $25 92 GROOM S JACKPOT CLASS $50 RANCH HORSE PLEASURE The purpose of Ranch Pleasure should reflect the versatility, attitude, and

movement of a working horse. The horse s performance should simulate a horse working outside the confines of an arena and that of a working ranch horse. This class should show the horse s ability to work at a forward, working speed while under control of the rider. Light contact should be rewarded and the horse shall not be shown on a full drape of reins. The overall manners and responsiveness of the horse while performing the maneuver requirements and the horse s quality of movement are the primary considerations. Horses should NOT perform or be rewarded for performing gaits as they do in Western Pleasure. The horses are to be presented in a more forwardmoving style than the typical Western Pleasure Horse. The horse and rider will be scored on movement, which is cadence and rhythm of gaits, smoothness and consistency in performance, along with how they perform the optional maneuvers. For rules regarding correct Western appointments, refer to MO132. Each horse will work individually, performing both required and optional maneuvers, and be scored on the basis of 0 to 100, with 70 denoting an average performance. The required maneuvers will include the walk, jog, and lope both directions; and the extended jog and extended lope going at least one direction; as well as stops, and a back. Optional maneuvers are side pass, turns of 360 degrees or more, change of lead (simple or flying), walk, jog or lope over a pole(s); or some combination of maneuvers that would be reasonable for a ranch horse to perform. The overall cadence and performance of the gaits should be free-flowing and ground covering at all gaits, with an emphasis on forward movement. Transitions should be performed where designated, with smoothness and responsiveness. 136 RANCH HORSE RAIL PLEASURE $25 147 RANCH HORSE PLEASURE PATTERN CLASS (in covered outdoor arena) See Pattern on page 39. Entry fee is $250.00. Entries are due on or before closing date of entries for the Buckeye Morgan Challenge Horse Show. Post entries are accepted until 3 p.m. of the day preceding the class at additional post entry fee of $250.00. No entries will be accepted once the draw for order of appearance begins. Entries must meet all requirements of the MWG and MUST be made on the official entry form of the Buckeye Morgan Challenge Horse Show and returned to the show secretary. No refunds of entry fees will be made without a Vet s certificate. All owners must provide their Social Security numbers on their entries in order to receive potential prize money. Winnings will not be paid without these numbers. No Winnings can be paid out until all Payees have satisfied this requirement. JUDGING PROCEDURE The Morgan Weanling Gala will be conducted in two rounds with three Judges officiating. Each round will be scored separately and no scores will carry over from round one to round two. USEF rules will prevail. FIRST ROUND In the first round, each foal will show individually. A random drawing will be held on the day preceding the class to determine the order of appearance of each foal. Any owner or trainer who is showing more than one entry and draws consecutive spots will be given a new draw. After entering the ring, each foal will have up to two minutes in which to be judged. The entry shall be judged standing and then at the trot. The handler then has the remainder of the two minutes to show the entry to its best advantage. At the end of the time allotment, the entry must immediately leave the ring. 24

Each entry must be waiting at the in-gate for its turn. Any entry showing out of order will have 5 points per judges card deducted from their score. In Round One, each judge may award a numerical score from 1 to 100, 100 being the highest score. After each entry has shown, the three judges scores will be added together to arrive at a final Round One score for the entry. The top ten scoring entries (eleven if there is a tie for 10th) will advance to round two. All scores from both rounds will be posted on the day following the class. When the final entry has been judged, show officials will tabulate the scores. The top ten scoring weanlings (eleven if there is a tie for 10th place) will be asked to return for Round Two. ROUND TWO After a short break, the ten foals (eleven foals if there is a tie for 10th place), will be asked to return to the ring for final judging in Round Two. These entries shall enter the ring in random order. These entries will then be judged in order of line up, both standing and at the trot. In Round Two, one judge will be designated as the call judge and the Majority Opinion System will be used. After all entries have been judged, the judges may ask to compare certain entries before marking and signing their cards. The judging cards will then be tabulated and Champion through 10th place will be awarded in reverse order. ENTRY LIST A numerical list of entries, order of appearance, sire and dam listing, and owner/handler information will be provided to the exhibitors and spectators by the Morgan Weanling Gala. 25

JUDGES SELECTION The three judge panel will consist of the primary judge selected by the Buckeye Morgan Challenge Horse Show plus two judges selected by the MWG shall officiate the Morgan Weanling Gala class. REGISTRATION Any entry placing 1st through 10th in the Morgan Weanling Gala class must be registered with the American Morgan Horse Association. If the entry is not yet registered, it will be DNAed immediately following the class. This DNA may be used in the registration of the entry. The DNA fee and any applicable veterinary fees will be deducted from that entry s prize money. All prize money recipients will have to be DNA verified if they are not previously registered. No payout of awards can be made until all ten winners have been registered with AMHA. NET PAYOUT The prize money payout will be determined by the number of stallions nominated for each year s program and will be paid to the top ten winners and their sires as described below. Prize money will be awarded after all ten winners have been registered with AMHA.
