FAST FACTS Location Activities Transport Accommodation Thailand Language &cooking lessons Temple &museum visits Learn about Buddhism &meditation Airport pick-up Bus/taxi to project site Eco-house Camping Backpacker-style accommodation WHAT WILL I BE DOING? Introduction week Your introductory week is the first step towards a successful stay in Thailand and is designed specifically to ensure that you get the most possible out of the trip as a whole. Your culture, language and cooking lessons will help you to settle and feel more at home, and the temple and museum visits will give you a taste of the history of Thailand and the influences on the development of its national identity. Volunteering &Cultural Experience After your introduction week you will then begin two weeks of volunteering, with a range of options available to you as part of this project. Take your pick from a wide variety of volunteering opportunities including helping out at a local orphanage, teaching at a local school or working on various construction projects in and around the local community. Throughout the duration of your programme you will have the opportunity to explore Thai culture in your free time learning about Buddhism and visiting monasteries and local markets. You will soon find yourself in touch with the spirit of Thailand, something that will stay with you forever. Beach break You will be located at the small, seaside city of Hua Hin, and will get a taste of everything, ranging from Buddhism, Teaching, Thai Culture, to Beach Conservation. On top of all these activities, during the afternoons, you will have free time at the great seaside city of Hua Hin to get an even better taste of Thai culture and to enjoy the beach. So you will still have the chance to rest and recouperate but
also get to enjoy some more of the Thai culture and sights that you will have come to love during your time in Thailand! WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE? You'll fly into Bangkok on the Sunday before your project begins and you will be met at the airport by a representative from Frontier-Thailand. You will then transfer to your project site for the first phase of your Thailand Experience, a journey of around 140 km north by bus or taxi. In Singburi you will be met by local coordinators who will transfer you to the eco-house. WHERE WILL I BE STAYING? During the first few weeks of your placement you will be staying in one of three eco-houses in Singburi. The rooms are twin shared and all the houses have Western style toilets, while one even has an Asian style toilet! You will have access to cool water showers, which you'll find refreshing in the heat of Thailand! There are communal areas for eating, relaxing and meeting your new friends and there is a local shop within walking distance of most of the houses should you feel the need for any additional treats! Your final week will be spent in a beach resort on Ko Samet, and the backpacker style accommodation will be a comfortable but basic twin shared bedroom close to the water's edge. WHAT WILL I BE EATING? All food is included during your placement, and you will find it to be typically Thai fare. Thai is one of the world's most exciting cuisines, and if you're willing to experiment, you'll be richly rewarded. Contrary to popular belief, not all Thai food is fiery hot and there are plenty of tasty dishes suited to the Western palate. This hybrid cuisine has been influenced by soups and noodle dishes from China, curries from India and satays from Indonesia. Most dishes incorporate four elements, sweet, sour, salty and hot flavours, and many of the dishes are rice or noodle based.
