MCHS 2017-18 Cheer Tryout Packet Coach: Christy Withers cwithers@millingtonschools.org Tryouts April 18 th -21 st (Paperwork Due April 17 th to Mrs. Withers) MCHS Cafeteria 2:15 start time means ALL personal needs are taken care of prior to 2:15. You MUST be picked up at 3:30 at the front of the school. What to wear Tennis/athletic shoes Shorts (NO booty shorts) A loose shirt(no tank tops or crop tops) Hair pulled up and away from your face NO jewelry of any kind ü You must attend each day of tryouts to be considered for selection of the squad. ü NO friends or family will be allowed in the practice area during tryout dates. ü A cut may be made before Friday depending on number of candidates. ü Selection of the squad will be posted Saturday morning once all scores have been tabulated. ü Results of the squad are final. **Being on the squad previously does NOT secure you a spot for this season s squad** Eligibility: o Students must be physically able to participate as outlined in a TSSAA sports physical o Students must have/maintain good conduct to be eligible. o Students must not have tattoos visible while in uniform. All jewelry must be removable. o Students must not be Failing any academic classes. Cheerleader selection will be based on the following: ü Knowledge of Cheer, sideline, and dance taught during clinic ü Performance of Cheer, sideline, and dance taught during clinic ü Jumps: Toe touch and Herkie ü Academic Eligibility and conduct(iss or OSS will count against you) ü Attitude, initiative, teamwork, leadership, work ethic, enthusiasm and coachability during tryouts. ü Current Academic GPA and Interview All paperwork must be turned in to Mrs. Withers by April 17 th to participate in tryouts
Commitment: Cheerleading is a large commitment! Cheer responsibilities and dedication begin the day results are posted, and continue through the end of competition/football/basketball season. It is your responsibility to schedule events around cheer. Practices: Practice begins April 25 th through May 18 th Tu, W, Th from 2:00-3:30 in the cafeteria. Summer schedule is a work in progress and subject to change. Schedules with practices and info will be given out monthly allowing you plenty of time to schedule around all practices and games along with transportation. If you are going to miss or be late to a practice or game due to illness or family emergency, you must notify a coach by 8:00pm the night before. No notification equals an unexcused absence/tardy. Excuse notes will be required in all cases. All practices are closed practices to parents, siblings and friends not directly associated with the cheer program. Cheer Fees and Schedule: Fees will pay for: shoes, bloomers, crop, 2 bows, 3 poms, warm ups, bag, 2 shorts 3 shirts, and $50 uniform rental fee. Fees will be paid in installments over time as listed below. If you would rather pay for cheer camp through credit card I will give you that information. Payments are due to Mrs. Withers unless listed otherwise. Failure to pay dues on time will result in being benched for games. 1 st payment $200.00 Due on or before May 1 st 2 nd payment $150.00 Due on or before June 1 st 3 rd payment $150.00 Due on or by July 11 th 4 th payment $100.00 Due August 15 th Sports Fee to MCHS $100.00 Due Registration day to MCHS **Fees are non-returnable if a cheerleader quits or is dismissed from the squad** Fundraising: All cheerleaders are required to participate in all fundraisers. Funds raised beyond the required goal will be credited to individual cheerleader s fees at a rate equal to participation. You are responsible for the minimum required earned for fundraising. You don t raise the funds you pay your share. Goals: our fundraising goals are to purchase raincoats, new signs, buses to some away games, cheer mats with rollers, and fund an end of year banquet. Communication: It is YOUR responsibility to communicate with the coach. Rules and Demerits: A more complete list of rules and cheerleader constitution will be handed out to the squad after selected.
