AWARD ELIGIBILITY & CRITERIA INFORMATION Adaptive Player of the Year Eligibility: Membership in the USTA Middle States section and residence within the NJD. 1) Any Adaptive Tennis Player, including Special Olympics athletes, autistic athletes, wheelchair athletes, athletes with prosthetics, or any tennis player who 2) A player who exemplifies good sportsmanship and character both on and off the court 3) Involvement in USTA national, sectional and/or district programs and activities Club of the Year (Or) Organization of the Year - Commercial Eligibility: USTA Middle States New Jersey District member clubs and commercial organizations. Previous winners are eligible for renomination seven years after receiving the award. 1) Service to the tennis community (i.e. donation/provision of courts and/or facilities/services for seminars, clinics, USTA Tournaments/league programs, interscholastic events, wheelchair and charity events, etc.) 2) Service to organization members (i.e. recreational activities, tournaments, leagues, inter club play, Team Tennis, instructional programs, etc.) 3) Involvement in USTA national, sectional and district programs/activities 4) Community, district, sectional volunteer involvement of staff, owners, board, etc. 5) Scope of programming (i.e. offerings for adult, junior, senior, disabled players) 6) Overall contribution/involvement in the tennis industry (i.e. USPTA/USPTR, IHRSA, Tennis Industry Council, attendance, at professional workshops, etc.) 7) Historical perspective of organization Other helpful information: Year established, year joined the USTA, number of members, and Principal officer s name and title Coach of the Year Eligibility: Employed as a college, high school, junior high, or middle school coach. Nominee must live and/or work (contribute) in our district. 1) Full-time or part-time contributor(s) (e.g., reporter, writer, etc.) and/or administrator(s) (e.g., publisher, editor, etc.) who provide or have provided extensive media supports for the sport of tennis and its related activities 2) Variety of topics covered (e.g., adult/senior/junior players, interscholastic/collegiate/ professional play, local clubs/programs, special events, announcements, etc.) 3) Coverage of USTA, USTA MS NJD programs. 4) Scope and frequency of coverage (e.g., length and number of articles published, size of publication, etc.). 5) Depth of coverage (i.e., featured articles, personality profiles, etc.). 6) Interaction with USTA MS NJD office. 7) Overall contribution/involvement in the tennis and media industries (i.e., attendance at professional conferences, professional memberships, etc.). Eligibility: USTA MS NJD member schools, community tennis associations, park and recreation centers, and other non-profit organizations. Nominee must be located in or provide service to the NJD. Membership in the USTA. 1) Length of instructing career 2) Scope of instructing career (private and/or public club, ATC, etc.) Please list chronologically. 3) Service to the community 4) Involvement in the USTA MS district programs and activities. 5) Involvement in enrichment/skill enhancement (i.e. professional organizations, etc.) 6) Ability to motivate and teach life skills to team members 7) Innovative teaching/instructing techniques 8) Outstanding players or protégés produced Senior Service Award Eligibility: Person who has been, through his/her efforts, willingness, cooperation, and participation, most deserving of the respect and honor of all seniors, either in play or organizational work for the betterment and furtherance of senior activity. 1) Period of time active 2) Description of activity or program 3) Numbers reached or served by the program/activity 4) Impact that the program/activity has created in the community or its usability at the local level. Team Spirit Award Eligibility: Any tennis team that plays within the New Jersey District, including Junior Team Tennis, Inter-Club teams, USTA League teams, High School teams and College teams. 1) A team that displays the true spirit of sportsmanship, enthusiasm, camaraderie and team spirit. 2) A team that is respectful, gracious and fair to all event officials, opponents, coaches and spectators. 3) A team that has gone well above and beyond the realm of playing tennis. 4) A team may be nominated by a coach, parent, volunteer or player. Submit a short story telling the awards committee why this team should receive this award. Also include a picture if one is available. Tournament Director of the Year Eligibility: Any tournament director who has put in at least five years of service running tournaments in the New Jersey district. 1) Which tournaments were run by the nominee? 2) Details about the nominee makes them stand out from other tournament directors. USTA League Captain of the Year Eligibility: Any USTA League Captain with membership in the USTA and residence in the New Jersey District 1) A captain who exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie, team spirit and fair play. 2) A captain who is respectful, gracious and fair to all event officials, opponents, coaches and spectators. 3) A captain who has gone well above and beyond the realm of playing tennis. Volunteer of the Year Eligibility: Any person who has at least five years of association with the district. 1) Scope and depth of volunteer contributions to USTA MS NJD or community programs Junior Volunteer of the Year Eligibility: Any junior associated with the district under the age of 19. 1) Scope and depth of volunteer contributions to USTA MS NJD or community programs ************************************************************************** Page 4 of
