LYNN WOMEN S HEALTH & WELLNESS INSTITUTE PRO-AM Honorary Guest Speaker: Barb Schmidt Barb Schmidt is a businesswoman, philanthropist, and the author of the bestselling book The Practice: Simple Tools for Managing Stress, Finding Inner Peace and Uncovering Happiness. Barb has been studying and teaching meditation and the power of mindfulness for over 30 years. She has been on over 100 retreats with many of the great teachers of our time including: the Dalai Lama, Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson, Thich Nhat Hanh, Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo, James Finley, and Caroline Myss. In 2001, Barb brought a larger community into discussions on peace initiatives with her partnership with Florida Atlantic University s Peace Studies program. She gives lectures and workshops, brings in notable speakers, where she teaches The Practice. Five years later, Barb launched a community outreach program designed to promote the principles she practices for finding strength and inner peace, offer workshops, weekly teachings and lectures hosting many of her esteemed mentors, including the Dalai Lama, Dr. Jane Goodall, Caroline Myss, Dan Millman, Dr. James Finley, Dr. Andrew Weil, Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo, and others. Throughout her life, Barb has espoused the principles of leading a productive, happy, and meaningful existence. She founded the Spirit of Giving Network, and co-founded and served as President of the Ronald McDonald Children s Charities of South Florida, raising millions of dollars in proceeds. As a longtime student of religion, sacred texts, psychology, and meditation, Barb seeks to promote the cause of achieving global peace through individual, inner peace. By 2011, Barb founded Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life, a non-profit organization through which she teaches The Practice, a three-part guide to practical spirituality in the modern world and her tool for spreading her belief that outer peace begins with inner peace. 100% of net proceeds from the book s sales go towards furthering the mission of Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life.
