OFFICIALS Judges 10) Michel Guimond (Chair) 11) Kim Donaghy 12) Benoit Drolet 13) Delphine Romaire 16) Aleksandra Antonova 14) Eric Caty 15) Martin Lefebvre RULES AND PROCEDURES General a) All spectators must purchase a General Admission Ticket for the applicable period of attendance. b) No refund shall be made of entry fees or general admission tickets. c) Competition will be conducted according to applicable CDF and NDCC rules. d) Video taping of the professional competition or professional show is strictly prohibited. e) By dancing in the Calgary Open Dance Competition, all participants agree that any photos or video taken of them during the event may be used by the organizer for promotional purposes. Competitors f) Entry deadline for competitors is April 20, 2018; Entries submitted after will be subject to a Late Penalty of $30. No events or additional rounds will be added to the program to accommodate late entries g) In any category with fewer than three (3) entries, the organizer reserves the right to cancel the event or to eliminate age divisions and merge competitors into one open division. h) Amateur competitors must meet NDCC requirements regarding registration. i) Applicable CDF and NDCC rules will govern International and American Style competition dress code. j) Beginners Ladies: Cocktail Dresses (Ballroom and Latin costumes not permitted) k) Bronze and Above Levels are allowed to wear costumes in single group flights l) Beginners Gentlemen: Jackets or vests, suits or tuxedo (tails or cast suits are not permitted) m) Bronze and Above Levels are allowed to wear costumes in single group flights n) Costumes are permitted in all levels in Open Multi-dance and Scholarship Dances o) All other levels: Competitor attire is permitted p) Payments for all entries must be made prior to the commencement of the competition. q) Dressing rooms will be provided for competitors. The organizer cannot guarantee the security of items stored in the dressing rooms or in the ballroom, and competitors shall assume the risk of loss of, or damage to, any property stored. r) Male competitors must pay a refundable $5.00 deposit at the time of issuing competitor numbers. s) Solo routines and group flights will take place in the daytime events. t) Awards will be presented in each event immediately following the completion of the event. u) Change of partners will not be allowed during the dance, (Formation dances exempted). v) Instructors cannot enter more than one student in the same dance, at the same level, or the same age group. w) Amateur competitors are responsible for dancing only those division and classification categories for which they are eligible. x) While on the competition premises, competitors shall conduct themselves in a civil and sportsmanlike manner at all times. y) All competitors must be lined up ON DECK, and ready to go on the floor (15) minutes before they are to compete in an event. In case of tardiness, the competition will not be delayed. z) Any competitor who is not on the dance floor for an event when the music begins will be disqualified in that event. aa) All competitors participating in an event shall accept as final the individual marking of the Judges and no appeal against them may be made, except when it can be shown that the actual markings have been incorrectly interpreted. bb) All competitors shall refrain from harassing or questioning a Judge about his/her personal reason for the mark. cc) Drops are permitted in Gold and above freestyle group flights, as well as Bronze, Silver and Gold Solo Exhibitions. Lifts are not permitted. dd) The organizer of the event reserves the right to reject the application of any competitor who has violated any of the above rules of conduct in any recognized event.

American Style Syllabus Restrictions The American syllabus restrictions will apply only in the Freestyle Group Flights in the Closed category. No syllabus restrictions apply for Open category competitions. All Multidances and Scholarship rounds will not have any syllabus restrictions. The steps for each level are those set out in NDCA. Syllabus, DVIDA Syllabus, the Fred Astaire or the Arthur Murray social step list. 2. International Style Syllabus Restrictions The steps for International Style are set out by the CDF and NDCC. The syllabus restrictions will apply only in the Freestyle Group Flights in the Closed category. No syllabus restrictions apply for Open category competitions. Age eligibility regulations are based on the status of the amateur only. In the case of the amateur couples, the couple will be ranked according to the average age of the two partners. A competitor can enter 1 or more age divisions above their own age division

III. EVENTS 1. Solo Exhibitions Any dance style; American, International and Country Open to Amateur and Pro/Am Competitors Open to Formation Teams All routines will be judged on the point system No routine is to exceed two minutes and fifteen seconds (2:15) Solos are open; variations of the syllabus are expected Music must be on compact disk only All compact discs must be clearly labeled with group number and track number Music must be handed in upon registration 2. Freestyle Group Flights Open to all ages and dance styles Open to Amateur and Pro/Am Competitors Group Flights will be no more than one minute and thirty seconds (1:30), if there is only one couple participating in the group flight, the time may be reduced to one minute and fifteen seconds (1:15) Competitors may dance in multiple group flight levels. 3. Formation Teams All team members must purchase daytime event passes for the days competing Music must be cued and handed in upon registration Formation Competitions shall be conducted according to NDCC rules 4. Multi-dance Open to Pro/Am and Am/Am competitors Competitors must dance the dances listed in this event Competitors may dance in two multi-dance levels, their normal level and one level higher. Amateur Showcase Challenge 2017 The showdance competition will be held during the Saturday evening events and will feature a cash scholarship award for the top 3 couples: First Place: $400.00 Second Place: $200.00 Third Place: $100.00 Note: Scholarship amounts will be halved if there are fewer than 5 couples entered. Entry Fee: Free! (Each participant must purchase a Saturday evening ticket in order to enter.) Each couple may enter one showdance routine in this competition not to exceed 5 minutes in duration. Please note: Organizer reserves the right to cancel the Amateur Showdance Challenge event if there are fewer than three (3) entries.

8. Amateur Competitions All competitors must be registered with NDCC. Top Teacher 1 st Place - $1,000.00; 2 nd Place - $500.00; 3 rd Place - $250.00 Please note: Top Teacher must have a minimum of one hundred (100) entries (solo, group flight, multi-dances and/or scholarship) to qualify for cash award.
