CHAIRMAN S COMMENTS Welcome to the Society s 70 th Annual Show. I guess if it was a Wedding Anniversary, it would be our Platinum Show! Certainly, it is quite an achievement for a local village Chrysanthemum, Dahlia & Vegetable Society to still be flourishing after seventy years, having started as a small flower group in the post war years. The initial annual subscription in those early days was 10 shillings a lot more in today s terms than the current subscription of 2! Why not become a member there is a box to tick on the entry form, or go to the join us page on our website. This year we are again holding the Show in the function room at the Victoria Club, Leigh Road, Street. The ease of access and parking, and perhaps the increase in the prize money attracted the largest entry for some years at the last show. We hope that will be repeated. There is a map on page 2 of the schedule showing where the Victoria Club is in relation to the High Street. For those using a sat-nav, the post code is BA16 0HB. The Victoria Club has a bar adjacent to the function room, and we will be able to serve refreshments in the function room this year. Thanks again to the Trustees at the Victoria Club who have again been helpful and accommodating. There is no charge for entry to the Show. The Show is funded from donations, profits from the plant sale and our sponsors. We are always pleased to have more sponsors as not all classes have a sponsor. Please contact our treasurer, Pat Baker. Contact details on the inside front cover of this schedule, or on our website. Our website, www.streetcdvs.org.uk, continues to be updated with the latest news and our Facebook page can be found at www.facebook.com/streetcdvs/. There is a link from our website to the Facebook page click on the at the top of each page. Bob Burns & Burns the Bread have supported the Society for some years. Bob has been a judge for the cake section of the show since that class was introduced. However, he will be away at the time of the Annual Show and unable to be a judge this year. We are delighted, however, that his daughter, Terri Petherbridge, has agreed to judge the cake section this year. Burns the Bread is a family run business, and Terri Petherbridge is now the Managing Director. We are delighted that Terri is also happy to present the Cups & Trophies at the Annual Show. As always, we review our schedule each year in the light of comments received. We are always pleased to receive feedback and suggestions for new classes, or alterations to the requirements of the individual classes. These may be passed to any member of the committee either at the show, or via our website www.streetcdvs.org.uk. Our aim is to improve the schedule by continually reviewing the classes. Thanks as always go to all those who make the show possible - the committee, sponsors, vice-presidents, judges, and all the numerous people who come to help with teas, raffles, setting up before & clearing up after the show. We must not forget the exhibitors without whom there would be no show. John Merrick 5

SPONSORSHIP As is stated on the back cover, the Society is very appreciative of the sponsorship it receives from various sources. The committee is convinced a show of the standard that is achieved would not be possible without this financial support. We take great pride in the show and endeavour to improve each year. However, costs rise hire of hall, insurance, administration and many other items increase annually. We try to make the prize money reflect the standards set by the exhibitors and, as can be seen, many of the classes are sponsored, although there are some that are not.
