FLEX LEWIS: SUPERSTAR BODYBUILDER Monday, March 19 BBC One Wales, 10.40pm Welsh superstar bodybuilder James 'Flex' Lewis is on a mission. The five-times reigning Mr Olympia champion has his eyes set on title number six. It he can do it, he ll equal the consecutive record of his all-time hero, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Flex is a star attraction at the Mr Olympia competition an event dubbed the Superbowl of Bodybuilding which sees thousands of fans descend on Las Vegas each year. Here, he's a huge celebrity known for his 30 other national and international titles, a million Instagram followers and countless bodybuilding magazine covers. It s a far cry from his home country where his fame has caused only a ripple. Cameras follow Flex over several months preparing for Mr Olympia. There are daily grueling gym sessions at which he presses up to 540 kilos the equivalent of a grand piano. And the super strict diet to ensure he shreds enough weight to be allowed to compete in his 212lbs category. He travels to Llanelli where, as a boy, he was rising rugby talent but an arm injury shattered his dream to play for Wales. He began weightlifting to recover and his natural genetics for bodybuilding were spotted. At Flex s current home in Florida and just weeks from the competition, he suddenly faces personal tragedy and one of the most powerful hurricanes on record. GARETH THOMAS SILVER SKYDIVERS FOR SPORT RELIEF Wednesday, March 21 BBC One Wales, 9pm Thursday, March 22 BBC Two Wales, 11.15pm #SilverSkydivers Rugby legend Gareth Alfie Thomas will face his biggest fear with a skydive from 12,000ft for Sport Relief. But he won t be alone. He ll be joined by a team of men of women - the Silver Skydivers - all fellow first-time parachutists and all aged between 60 and 85. Gareth has been fearless on and off the field - he s captained Wales and the Lions, broken more than 40 bones and was the first international sportsman to come out as gay. But one thing terrifies him - heights. To overcome his phobia, Gareth faces a series of escalating height-related trials. This is a man who cannot cope with ascending a step ladder, but he is soon trying to abseil cliffs and climb to a 100ft firefighting platform. As well as conquering his own fear, he also has to coach his Silver Skydivers ahead of the jump and so enlists his secret weapon - chief motivator wing commander Dilys Price, from Cardiff. At 85, Dilys holds the Guinness World Record for the Oldest Female Skydiver and is fearless. But can she inspire the same courage in Gareth? Gareth Thomas Silver Skydivers for Sport Relief will push both of them to the limit. Cerys Rees 02920 323764 / cerys.rees@bbc.co.uk 4
