PMMS Mustang News Dr. Jasmine Kullar, Principal March 16, 2018 Board Member Appreciation Week This is board member appreciation week so we want to thank and appreciate our board member, Mr. Randy Scamihorn. Mr. Scamihorn supports our school and our school community and we are so grateful for all that he does for us! Thank you Mr. Scamihorn! March 16 March 21 Sparkles Skate Night from 6-10pm 8th grade band LGPE Parent Coffee Thank you to all the parents who came to the parent coffee this morning. It was a great discussion and I really appreciated some of the feedback we received!! I look forward to seeing you all again at a future coffee meeting!! PTSA Communication Our PTSA uses Facebook as their primary mode of communication. If you have not already done so, please join their group on Facebook at Pine Mountain Middle School PTSA. Our 8th grade ambassadors gave them a tour and answered questions. It was a great visit! Thank you Ms. Hines and Ms. Roll for organizing this event. April 10-20 Milestone Testing April 27 Final day for Olympic t- shirt sales Chicago Trip Stevenson High School May 9-11 PMMS Olympics I took a group of teachers to visit one of our country s top high schools, Stevenson High School in Chicago. We came back with some great ideas for PMMS and we are looking forward to sharing them with our parent community as well in the months to come! 6th Grade Students of the Week Simran Kaur always strives for perfection. She has an eye for perfection. Her sweet disposition pairs nicely with her academic achievements. Dylan Morehead is a model student who demonstrates respect and responsibility every day. 7th Grade Students of the Week Asia Drake is always smiling. She is always finding a way to make others smile too. She works hard in class and she helps make the learning environment a better place. Austin Breeze puts in whatever effort he needs in order to succeed. His inquisitive attitude and motivation are testaments to his work ethic. 8th Grade Students of the Week William Fincher is an excellent helper! He is determined not only to find success for himself, but also his peers. Kayleigh Williams comes to school each day with a willing and positive spirit. She is focused and works hard in class. She serves as a patient and kind friend to her peers. She is a joy to teach. I would like to recognize our 5 teachers who have been nominated by their peers for this year s teacher of the year (Ms. Amy Adams, Ms. Jennifer Cassidy, Ms. Lauren Hemmings, Ms. Michelle Irwin and Ms. Ann Ogle). In addition, our 2 staff members who were nominated for this year s classified employee of the year (Ms. Terri Terschan and Ms. Susan Towns). Congratulations to all of them for this honor!! Teachers and staff are voting this week to select their winner. We will announce the winners after the voting period has ended. Stay tuned!

Upcoming Events Parents, please make sure you read each page of the newsletter. We have additional information about the following events/activities: KMHS Cheerleading page 8 Rising 6th Grade Parent Night page 9 Softball Camp page 8 Lovinggood MS Spring Bloom 5K page 10 8th Grade Field- Center for Civil and Human Rights & the MLK Center The trip is on Thursday, March 29th and we will leave at approximately 9:30 and we will return to the school around 6 PM. Student Check list: Wear sneakers and a coat A pencil to complete the scavenger hunt Bring your lunch if that was your choice on the permission slip 6th Grade Math 6 th grade math students and parents, please check the blog every day to see assignments, sample work, HW/CW answers and videos to help you with your assignments. Please click on the calendar of your class. https://sites.google.com/site/pmmsmath6/ PS. Students need to bring in a basic calculator (nothing fancy, it just needs to be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Students also need to restock on paper and pencils.) FLY Fridays Join Mrs. Taylor every Friday morning at 8:15am in the gym for fellowship, games, and guest speakers. Pretty Brainy Announcement Pretty Brainy will meet Wednesday, March 21st after school in room 1815. Girls should be picked up promptly at 5:30. Dodgeball Tournament FLY is having their annual Dodgeball Tournament next Friday March 23rd at 8:00 AM in the gym. You do not have to be a normal FLY attendant to participate. More information -- including the prize information on page 5! Math Club Math Club meets every Friday at 8:30 in Mrs. Wilbur s classroom! We are preparing for our 1 st Math Competition.

Art Exhibit Ms. Jezequel wants to invite everyone to attend the Middle School Masters Art Show at the Big Shanty Art Station from now until April 6. We have 24 students participating in the art exhibit. Parents, please join us to learn about the 2018 KMHS Cheerleading Program. Rising 9 th - 12 th grade students are also welcome to attend. KM Cheer Tryouts Tuesday, March 20 - Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm in the KMHS Small Gym. Rising 9 th grade girls should plan to arrive around 4:30 pm (directly after middle school dismissal). Attire white shirt, black shorts, cheer/athletic shoes & hair pulled into a pony tail. Oratorical Contest Thank you to Jeremiah Jackson-Gillihan, Brendan Ashton, Patricia Giran-Cruz, and Vegas Kerlin for representing PMMS at the Optimism Club s Annual Oratorical Contest at Kennesaw Mountain High School! The students presented on the topic Where are the Roots of My Optimism?. Congratulations to Jeremiah Jackson-Gillihan for receiving third place in the signing category! Dodgeball Tournament Rules (continued from pg 3) -Teams need 5 players (at least 2 boys and 2 girls) -Teams may play with a s few as 4 players as long as they meet the 2 and 2 rule. -Teams must be at FLY Friday by 8:10am at the latest -Single Elimination tournament Game Rules -All referee calls are final -Any hit counts -A ball that hits a person, the floor, a wall, or any other obstacle is considered dead -If you catch a live ball thrown by the other team, the person who threw it is out no re-entry of team members -If a ball hits a person and then that person manages to catch the same ball
