Page 4 BLIND CRICKET NCIC & WORLD CUP WRAP NSW fielded a younger team in 2017 for the National Cricket Inclusion Championships in Geelong, VIC and fought hard against strong opposition from Victoria and combined teams from QLD/ACT & SA/WA. Despite defeating all teams in the double round robin NSW was eliminated from the final on run rate by Victoria who went on to lose the final to a strong SA/WA team featuring Australian World Cup players Steffan Nero from WA and Stephen Palmer from SA. Captain of NSW Lindsey Heaven praised his team, saying it was a great launching pad to the future with stars like Matt Cameron who scored multi 50 s in the opener position and Shaun Fitzpatrick who was the leading wicket taker for NSW in the tournament performing well under pressure. In addition to these young breakthrough players their was Nathan Letts a new totally blind B1 player who won the game against Victoria batting with Australian veteran Vaughn Roles with just 3 balls remaining in their tough second round match up. Coach Daniel Drew and Manager Graham Coulton also mentioned how proud they were of the fight showed by the NSW Team. NSW also finished 3rd in the ID and Deaf portion of the All Abilities competition. Cricket Australia put on an amazing event sponsored by Commonwealth Bank to raise the professionalism of the sport. Lindsey Heaven is now in India where he is the Australian Captain in the T20 World Cup of Blind Cricket. Matthew Cameron, David Saxberg & Vaughn Roles are also members of that Australian squad who have started off in style winning their first 4 games against South Africa, Nepal, NZ & WI before a narrow loss to Bangladesh by 9 runs. #asportforall
