GREATER SUBURBAN INDOOR TENNIS LEAGUE GENERAL RULES NAME: Women s Competitive Travel Team 2017/2018 Match Days A, A/B, B C (Play Fridays) (Play Thursdays) DATES: September 7 & 8 thru Dec 14 & 15 Session I January 11 & 12 thru April 19 & 20 Session II Playoff matches: April 26 and April 27, 2018 May 3 and May 4, 2018 Awards Luncheon May 11, 2018 Heritage will host The host clubs are responsible for refreshments after team play. LEVEL OF PLAY: A Division (4.0+), A/B Division (3.5-4.0), B Division (3.5), and C Division (3.0-3.5) LEAGUE TIME: Match starting times will be based on individual club schedules. PLAY WILL BE 2 HOURS OR THREE SETS, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. Once the 2-hour time limit has expired, all play will cease immediately unless the server s service motion has begun, or the point has already started, in which case the players will finish the point they re in. ELIGIBILITY: All players must be at least 21 years of age and members of the club for which they are playing. Teaching pros (a pro is defined as being on the teaching staff of any club) may not participate in league play unless approved by the League Committee members. FORMAT: A team shall consist of four doubles teams. All clubs should position their teams in order of strength. At no time should a court 1 player ever play on court 4, As a courtesy, coordinators should call ahead to the opposing team if subs from a higher level are subbing down on court 1 of a lower level. Line-ups should be presented in completion on a score sheet before the start of the match.

TEAM PLACEMENT: Teams with less than a 30% win record for the first session will be subject to review by the League Committee. The committee has the right to move a team to a lower level if it is determined that the lower level would be more appropriate. Teams with more than a 70% win record for the first session will be subject to review. The committee has the right to move a team to a higher level if it is determined that the higher level would be more appropriate. Teams who are in last place in the C division are exempt from this rule and teams who are in first place in the A division are exempt from this rule. If it is determined by the League Committee that a team should be moved up or down, the affected club has the right to decide how to best remedy the situation (i.e. moving an entire team up or down or making adjustments by moving select players up or down). PLAYER MOVEMENT: Substitutions between different levels of teams may be done as follows: Players from courts 3 and 4 of a higher level team may only play court 1 or 2 of the team the next level down. Substitution to a lower or higher team should not affect a player s placement on her normal team. Players that are not rostered on a team can sub for multiple teams, even within the same division, but once they have played for a team four times, they must be rostered on that team. MATCH PLAY: Team lineups should be exchanged simultaneously between team captains prior to each match. Warm-ups will be limited to 15 minutes after the starting time. Each individual match will consist of three (3) sets, or until the time limit has expired. A 12 point tiebreaker will be played in any set that goes to six games all. There must be absolutely no coaching of teams or players after the match begins. A league coordinator or club pro or must be present during all matches.

SCORING: One point will be awarded for each set or portion of set won. Division winners will be determined by highest winning percentage (number of sets won against sets played). Time Limit Scoring: If a set is even, the point is split. If a set hasn t started, the point is split. If a team is ahead by 2 games, that team wins the point. If a game is not completed, it does not count. If the time is up when a tiebreak is in progress, the set is considered a tie at 6-6 regardless of what the score in the tiebreak was when the time was up, with each team being awarded a half point. Scores should be recorded on our website by team coordinator or captain by the following Monday.morning. Weekly results will be posted on our website @ GreaterSuburbanTennis.com. DEFAULT: Fifteen minutes late no warm-up; 16 through 30 minutes late loss of first set; over 30 minutes late loss of match. If a team/player arrives 31 minutes after the start time of the match, they default the entire match and will be penalized 3 points and the opposing team will be awarded 3.0 points. If you have to default any courts/matches, the host club s team coordinator should be contacted as quickly as possible so he/she can notify his/her team. If you have to default matches in advance to another club, you must default the lowest court and move up all remaining teams.. Default rule: When a match is defaulted, the defaulting team should notify their opponents 24 hours in advance or they will be responsible for the entire court fee. When a team defaults one or more courts in advance of the match, the opposing team is awarded 3 points, while the defaulting team receives 0 points. If a team defaults after a match has begun (due to injury, illness, etc.), any set that has been completed will count, while the defaulting team will receive no points for any set that has not been completed, regardless of what the game score was at the time of default. Thus, if the defaulting team is ahead by 2 or more games in a set at the time of default, they are not awarded the point. Defaulting an entire match should be avoided at all costs. It is unfair to the other teams for a team to be awarded 12 points for a match that was not even played. Therefore, if a team defaults all four courts, that team will be disqualified to play in the next session.

TROPHIES: Travel trophies will be awarded to the 1 st and 2 nd place teams of each division at the end of the indoor season. In any division, if two different teams come in first or second in Session I and Session II, a playoff match will take place on the scheduled play date to determine the final winners. PLAY-OFFS: The winner of each session will automatically qualify to play in the playoffs, with the team with the higher winning percentage getting the #1 seed and the other session winner getting the #2 seed. The next 2 spots in the playoffs will be the teams with the next 2 highest winning percentages during either session during the year, i.e., they could both be from the same session or one from each session. If the same team wins both sessions, the next 3 highest winning percentages would qualify for the playoffs. Week 1 of the playoffs will have the #1 and #4 seeds play each other, and the #2 and #3 seeds play each other. Matches will be held at the higher seed s club. Week 2 of the playoffs will have the 2 winners of the playoffs week 1 vie for the championship. In the event of a 6-6 tie at the conclusion of a playoff match, the total games won for each team will be counted. The team having the greater number of games will be declared the winner. If the total games won is also tied, a 12-point match tiebreak will be played. The two players that will represent each team in this tiebreak will be chosen by their respective teams. Awards plaques will be presented to the Championship and Finalist teams at the End of the season Awards luncheon. In order to qualify to play in a playoff match, a player must be rostered on the team and must have played in at least 3 matches for that team within a given session. This could be in either the first half or second (or both), but for example if someone played only 2 matches in the first half and 2 matches in the second, that person would not qualify. LEAGUE FEES: A $60 league fee per team per season must be sent to Lisa Wheeler prior to the beginning of the indoor season. Match fee ($17.00 per player) The host clubs will collect a $17 match fee from each player. Please check in 10 minutes prior to the start of the match to pay your match fee. Singles match fee ($25 per player)

MISCELLANEOUS: The Code will be used to settle any disputes, problems or questions not covered by the rules contained herein. The curtains between tennis courts at all participating clubs will remain open during match play. The only exception to this rule is that the club may choose to close the curtain, if there is a lesson or drill on the adjacent court. As a matter of courtesy to all players, cell phones should be turned off before match play begins. Water breaks should be taken only on the odd games, just as would be done when teams are changing ends in an outdoor match, and between sets. The schedule will be played as is, with no changes. Matches are not to be postponed or canceled unless there is inclement weather or by mutual consent of the clubs involved. Decisions regarding the cancellation of matches due to inclement weather must be made by 8am the day of the match. A list of coordinators cell phones can be found on our website by logging on with your password A schedule of participating clubs is provided which includes the starting times for matches as well as where teams are scheduled to play. Please make sure to send the correct teams to the correct club. Protests to the League Committee must be filed within 24 hours of the match in question. This process should be used only if the host coordinator cannot solve the problem. The League Committee has final judgment on all participants and any and all problems which may arise. The League Committee consists of the following individuals: League Coordinator Lisa Wheeler (847/967-1400) The South Barrington Club Paul Burrus/Tanya Haber/Sue Koril (847/381-2570) Wilmette Tennis Club Barb Jenkins/Kathy White (847/256-9679) Forest View Racquet Club Jason Stanislaw (847/640-2574) Glenview Tennis Club Dave Woolf/Dorothy Carlson (847/724-1570) Heritage Tennis Club Sean Potter (vm 224/795-5021)/Chris Nisbet (847/398-7780) A.
