Dear Fellow Trapshooters, President s Message I would like to welcome you to the VTA shoots for 2018. This year s Hall of Fame shoot will again be held in conjunction with the AIM state championship, we look forward to having these fine young competitors shooting with us this year. I m pleased to announce that the West Virginia Trapshooting Association will hold their state shoot at Winchester Gun Club from July 12th to July 15th. I look forward to the event and you will be able to shoot two state tournaments at the same location this year, there will be other events at the club between the shoots including a clinic on July 9th-10th-11th, and a special event on July 11. Practice traps will be open on the 10th and 11th. Details are in the program. Due to the amount of interest we have already had, please contact the gun club as soon as possible for camping reservations at winchestergunclub@gmail.com. I encourage all of you to support your local ATA clubs; they are the backbone of our sport and a great place to introduce your friends to ATA shooting. I m pleased to announce the induction of Gary Funkhouser into the Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame. I have known and worked with Gary for many years and he will make a fine addition to the Hall of Fame. I would like to recognize the 2018 VTA Board of Directors for all of their hard work in promoting and supporting trapshooting in Virginia. Without their continued efforts and those of many others at your local clubs, we could not continue to grow and provide the sport and fellowship we all enjoy. Good shooting to all, Mike Jeter President, Virginia Trapshooting Association 3

Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame, Inc. Officers: President: Alan Corey Treasurer: Bob Igou Vice President: Andrea Smith Secretary: Audrey Sharp Directors: Lucien Charette, Bruce Clevenger, Gary Holderman, Dean Spiridon and Keith Corey The Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame, Inc. is a non-profit organization that encourages participation in trapshooting by young shooters through supporting youth programs and education at the VTA gun clubs. The VTHOF was incorporated in January, 2002, and has tax-exempt status as defined under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code. During 2017, the VTHOF has: 1. Assisted Sub-Junior and Junior shooters with reduced target fees for select events during various state shoots. 2. Provided financial assistance to the Virginia Youth Trapshooting League. 3. Conducted a fundraiser in the form of a silent auction during the VTA State Shoot. 4. This is the third year the VTHOF awarded $500 scholarships. This year, 2 Virginia resident ATA junior trapshooters received them. More information about the scholarship is available on the VTA and VTHOF websites and from any of the officers and directors. Deadline for application is June 1, 2018. In the future, the VTHOF plans to: 1. Support the AIM program in Virginia in procuring entry level equipment and trophies, or in other appropriate ways. 2. Seek additional ways to support youth trapshooting in Virginia such as providing assistance for the new Virginia Youth Trapshooting League. The VTHOF oversees the annual selection process for inducting a Virginia trapshooter into the Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame. Selection is based on superior marksmanship or outstanding efforts made by individuals on behalf of trapshooting in Virginia. VTHOF is supported by generous gifts, by cash donations, and through challenges by individuals for matching fund donations from our trapshooting families and supporters. If you would like additional information, have questions or suggestions for projects supporting the VTHOF functions, or are able to contribute financially, please contact VTHOF Treasurer, Bob Igou (bobigou@verizon.net) or any of the other officers or directors listed above. You may also wish to visit the new VTHOF website at http://www.vatraphof.com. 18

2018 Virginia Hall of Fame Inductee Gary Funkhouser Gary has been a member of the VTA since 1992. In his earlier years, his 16- yard average was never below 93 and peaked at 98. However, Gary s nomination and selection are based on his support of the VTA and all trapshooters. Here are some of his many accomplishments. Gary became Manager of the Winchester Gun Club in 2004 and is still the Gun Club Manager. He was elected to the WGC Board of Directors in 2004 and still serves as a Board Member. He was elected President of the Winchester Gun Club in 2012 and served thru 2015. To this day, Gary continues to oversee all the operational needs for all the VTA shoots as well as all the WGC shoots. He makes sure that both the facilities and equipment are always in top notch condition for all the shoots. His qualities of longevity, integrity, reliability and outstanding leadership have made a significant impact on the Gun Club. He is an exceptional role model for both new as well as long time members of the gun club and VTA. He demonstrates a true devotion to the promotion of a successful VTA. Gary maintains the traps to a high degree of excellence, WGC has the best background and shooting facilities in the Commonwealth. He is there before every shoot to check equipment and set targets. During the shoot he keeps an eye on the line and is quick to respond to problems. He even has the ability and skill to manufacture trap machine parts. This is a financial benefit to the WGC. Management involves more than facilities and equipment. Over the years as manager Gary trained many young people to be the trap help. This training involved more than teaching a person how to score, and load traps. He has the ability to mold these young people into responsible and respectful human beings. These are life skills will follow these WGC kids throughout their lives. Gary is hands on. He willingly takes on any task, and doing so, makes everyone s job easier.
