5 Comet Courier 9-19-14 Grade scale changes The OHS faculty has made adjustments to the grade scale for this school year. The grade scale was adjusted to match the rest of the district. It also was suggested by a staff committee to coincide with the introduction of the Common Core Curriculum. The new scale is a straight 10-point scale and took effect at the beginning of the year. The first progress reports should reflect the new scale as well as the upcoming first quarter grades. Here is the new scale: A 100-90 B 89-80 C 79-70 D 69-60 Junior class to paint Comet logos on driveways The Class of 2015 will be painting Comets or the Comet logo on driveways along the parade route as a class fundraiser on Wed., Sept. 24. The cost of the painting will be $10, and either purple or white paint will be used. Food pantry needs your help recycling steel cans The Oakwood Area Food Pantry is holding a fundaiser called Recycle For Food. They are asking interested people to save all steel cans (vegetable, fruit, soup, tuna, etc.). If a magnet sticks to it, they d like for you to save it. The food panty will be collecting the cans at the Oakwood Food Pantry from now until November 1. Rinsed out cans may be dropped off at the fenced in porch off the new food pantry at 202 South Scott Street in Oakwood. OHS Fight Song Cheer, cheer for old Oakwood s fame Wake up the echoes cheering her name Send the volley cheer on high Shake down the thunder from the sky What though the odds be great or small Old Oakwood High will win over all While her loyal sons are marching Onward to victory! If anyone is interested in having their driveway painted, they can call the high school. The class will also be going door-to-door before that evening to see who would like their driveway painted. Guidance Corner Information for students (scholarships, ACT, college visits) is being sent via student email accounts. If you would like to receive the information too, please send your email address to leed@oakwood76.org and I will include you in future mailings. During the month of September, college application fees are being waived at Indiana State University. If your student is considering applying to ISU, you might want to encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity! DACC is hosting an ACT prep class on Saturdays (September 20-October 25) from 9:00-12:00. The cost is $150. College Admission reps from Eastern Illinois University and Illinois State University will be here next week. Juniors and Seniors may sign up to meet with them.
