Training on the WYEC Grounds Did you know you can access the centre without paying casual users fees and with PCAV insurance cover. You need to be clear that you are training for a special purpose such as you need some extra help with your horse, or you need to work on a certain discipline or training for a ODE, a games event or event of some kind. The training needs to be with our permanent instructors Allison Hayes, Sue Bradley, Nick Benyon or Gab Clark. It can be at any time during the week or on weekends. Just make sure you check if any other core users are using the centre at the time. You can use sand, cross country and even our jumps if you are prepared to get them out and pack them up again. Allison on 0400 446 363 Nick on 0416 387 408 Sue on 0439 428 769 Gab on 0422 002325 Talk directly to the Instructors to book in. OUT AND ABOUT A fantastic effort by our Games Team, and a great day was had by all, despite the horrendous weather. Please take the time to read their full report at the end of the newsletter. Check out the SUPER photos too. JUNIOR COMMITTEE The junior committee recently purchased for the club a trailer which is currently being used to carry the games equipment in. It was very helpful to the games teams and parents during their many practices making pack-up very quick and easy. We have also bought a shield to record the recipients of the Glad Owen Memorial Award which the committee presents every year to a worthy club volunteer. Now our bank account is a bit empty so we need to organise some fundraisers. If you have any great ideas bring them to the next Junior committee meeting. The Mane Magazine next edition is out in June; any articles can be sent to Tori at lyndamcdonald1@bigpond.com or mailed to C/o Smythesdale P.O Smythesdale, 3351. Thank you to the Morgan family for their recent generous support of our gymkhana please tell your friends and family about their fencing business. Club Information New Smythesdale Pony Club Mailing Address Pony Club Keys For anyone having training on the WYEC grounds the keys are now held by Angela Taranto. Please organise pick up and drop off of the keys with Angela and please be fair and give as much notice as possible. For casual users you must still use the key at the Foodworks store in Smythesdale. Thanks Lisa Grigsby The Secretary Smythesdale and District Pony Club Inc. 29 Devon Court Haddon, Vic, 3351 Membership fees Thank-you very much for everyone who played a part in the vote at the April Rally lunchtime meeting, and really making a decision with the best interests of the club in mind. The decision was unanimous in favour of an additional $17 per rider which helps the club continue to provide quality instructors amongst many other things. I have e-mailed all members the updated fees in the past week, I will also leave copies on the desk at the May rally, or e-mail or call me if you do not have a copy of the latest fees. Thank-you to everyone, Cheers, Shane.

WYEC CASUAL USER FEES At the recent WYEC meeting a motion was put forward to reduce the casual user s fee for the core user groups of the centre. The WYEC committee, which includes members from Rokewood PC, Adult Riders and Smythesdale PC along with the WYEC management group voted unanimously to reduce the casual user fees for the core groups of the centre. The new User fees for the core user groups (which includes SPC) is as follows which now revolves around families. 12 month casual user Family $70 6 month casual user Family $50 1 month casual user Family $30 Day casual user same as one month. Guest pass - $10 per rider per day Included in the restructuring is that you may bring a friend to ride (if you have the casual user membership) for $10 per rider per day Thank you to Julie Lodge for her WYEC involvement as SPC representative. Also a big thank you to WYEC Committee on this changed fee structure. Photographer for May Rally Cathy Deeker s niece who is doing a photography course at Uni needs to take some photos for an assignment. A request has been made to take photos of the kids on horseback at our May Rally. We are also going to take the opportunity to do a group photo that we can send off to Horse Deals for publishing. If it is printed, the club receives $200. There have been a number of members request the Horse deals group photo in the past 12 months from Junior committee members to Donna, our fundraising co-ordinator. Cathy s niece is going to supply the club a CD with all the photos taken through the day which we can distribute the photos amongst our members and we can also use some of the photos for our website. If you do not wish to have your child s photo taken at the May rally could you please advise Shane or Brett via e-mail before the day so that we can advise Cathy s niece. The Smythesdale Pony Club riders group photo is going to be taken at 12.00 mid-day at the upright logs jump on the cross country course, near the ditch, far side of the lower field with the cross country course in the background. This photo will be used on our website on the front page. Hope all you kids can make the photo. Thanks from Shane Saturday Afternoon Set up? A number of members have requested we look into returning to Saturday set up, and a number of those people are prepared to do set up at most rallies and would see that as their ongoing rally task. Are there a few others out there that would be prepared to do set up at 4pm on the Saturday of each rally or every second rally in exchange for some freedom on rally day? You might have to help a bit with pack up, but it s not all bad when there is a few of us helping, and we all have a bit of a joke along the way. Please let me know your thoughts. You can contact me on e- mail ssimpson@netconnect.com.au or phone 5342 4411. Thanks from Shane From Your Committee New DC and Vice President The Committee is very excited to announce that we have appointed our new District Commissioner (DC). The successful applicant is Brett Almond, he is the Father of Jordan, Olivia and Zeke and the husband of Sue. Both Jordan and Olivia attend Pony Club and Zeke is waiting in the wings. The Almond family have previously been members of Lilydale Pony Club, and as a family have both experience and ideas from their past pony club involvement. Both Brett and Sue have been keen to become more involved in the runnings of the pony club which I have no doubt they will now have that opportunity. Brett and Sue have shown much enthusiasm as well as an understanding of the challenges of Brett's DC role. We wish Brett the very best in his new role as DC which is fully supported by the pony club committee, chief instructor and the permanent instructor group, and we all believe he and his family will play a beneficial role in the future direction of the club. Brett's e-mail is bnsalmond@bigpond.com and his contact phone number is 0417 560 045 for any DC related issues or correspondence. Brett would like to encourage anyone who has any questions or would just like to have a chat about anything to contact him anytime. The committee and I'm sure all pony club members would like to thank Teresa for the effort and absolute commitment towards the club over the past 5 years as DC. In that time Teresa has been a pivotal point in turning the club around to what it is today, her administrative and organisational skills have set a standard superior to most pony clubs. We also thank her for standing in as DC for the April Rally to ensure the rally could still proceed as intended. As Linda Breguet is moving to Mildura we have also been required to find a new Vice-President in the past month. The committee is equally excited to announce that Stephanie Lawrence has been appointed to the role of Vice-President, again another person bringing new ideas and experiences to the club and committee. Stephanie's daughters Mikaela and Maddison attend pony club and Neil is her husband. One of Stephanie's roles is keeping all the information about riders and their horses up to date for the instructor and setting up their folders for rally day. A big thank-you to Linda for her efforts and commitment to the club over the past two years especially while holding the role of President, and best wishes to her and her family for their relocation to Mildura.

Good Luck to our newly crowned DC and Vice- President. Thanks from Shane President s Spiel Hi Everyone, thank-you for all the positive feedback to our new committee team over the past month, it has been really appreciated, and they are all doing a fantastic job. We have had some wonderful responses to our rider choice rally and we are hoping that all you riders really enjoy the May rally. The newsletter is full of reports and notes of things happening, so I won t go back over and double up on all the reports. Other than to say that there is a magnitude of things going on around the club at the moment and it is all in the direction of the kids, the reason we are all here for, so great stuff to everyone from every direction at the moment. Congratulations to everyone involved in the games teams from Jemima, Alistair and Susie, to the riders teams to the devoted parents, and to everyone else who played a part in any way. What you have done together over the past few months is incredible, it was a fantastic commitment from everyone involved and really showed what the club is all about. A big well done to all of you. Please ensure you read the newsletter from front to back to see all the happenings such as - A fantastic report on the games team - Horse Trials note for Sunday 26 th July. - WYEC Casual Users reduced fees for core user groups (Families) - Rider group changes - Photographer for May Rally and riders group photo - Note from Sue Bradley regarding gradings - Membership fees thanks - Introduction from the DC - Junior Committee fundraising - Training on WYEC grounds - Events coming up - Saturday set up at 4.00pm A lot of people have come to us in the past month with great ideas for future rallies and for the club in general. I would really encourage for this to continue, as all new ideas come from somewhere and the more people putting in their thoughts the more new good ideas we have to work with. And a big thank-you to everyone for their patience while the new committee and DC find their feet. Thank you to my wonderful wife for compiling the newsletter at very short notice due to unforeseen circumstances. We hope all is ok in the Deeker- Fradd household. FROM OUR NEW DC I would like to say a big hello to everyone and thank you for supporting me as your club s new D.C. For the members that may not be familiar with me I would like to give you an insight. My name is Brett Almond and my family and I have been members at Smythesdale since February this year. Before transferring to Smythesdale my family and I were active members at Lilydale pony club in the Northern Metropolitan zone for the past three years. During my time as a pony club parent I have been involved with the usual chores of setup and pack up and other rostered duties at rallies, and also show jumping and cross country judging and parent helper at eventing clinics within the zone whilst being a nervous father at competitions. I look forward to working together with the committee, president and instructors to continue the enthusiastic development of our club and its future (the up and coming stars-our children). I would like to once again thank Theresa for her marvelous job as previous D.C and I understand these are "BIG" shoes to fill. I believe that working as a team myself, the committee and the instructors will do a fantastic job. If anyone wants to speak with me about anything feel free to grab me on rally days or you can contact me at any time via email or phone. Once again thank you for your support Brett. My email is bnsalmond@bigpond.com My phone No is 0417-560045 A NOTE ON GRADINGS FROM OUR CHIEF INSTRUCTOR Hello Riders, For those who have sent in their grading requests for this month, the gradings will be done in the last lesson for the day. Please confirm with the D.C. on the day and assemble at the gear check area. Grading sessions will be put on the rally plan in future so you know at what rally and what time this will occur. Good luck to those being graded this rally. A tip for those considering being graded in the future. Talk to your instructors about what you need to work on to be graded.

Sue Bradley Smythesdale Pony Club Horse Trials (ODE) on Sunday July 26 th. Our clubs Horse Trials (ODE) will take place on Sunday July 26th, 2009. The flyer has been e-mailed out to all members in the past week. Please feel free to print some out and hand them out to your mates or pin them up at your local milk bar. There are only 5 clubs in the Barwon Zone that still run a grade 1 to 5 Horse Trials event, so our zone encourages us to provide such an event on one of the better cross country courses going around. The word is we need about 50 to 60 volunteers to run the event, it doesn't take much to work out that pretty much every family in pony club needs to help out somewhere along the way. I hope I'm not asking too much, this is one of our best opportunities each year to sell our club to the zone and hopefully make a heap of money in the process. Could everyone involved in the club maybe see this as a good day out each year with your family and come along and help out doing something for the day, it's a real buzz sitting on a cross country jump for a few hours watching all the jumping. Then there's the canteen, gear checking, front gates, pencillers, front desk sign in for competitors, helpers with the dressage and showjumping, set up and pack up if I dare mention it. And heaps more that I'm sure we can find something small for everyone, like bring a plate for the judges etc. In the end it's about giving the kids (riders) a good day out and giving them a great course to do it on. It's also a chance to come out and check out our own local stars and give them our support. Hope you can all help out in some way, have a think what you may be able to help with and we will have a helpers sheet at the May rally to get some names onto. We are going to have a major raffle at the event, so if anyone would like to donate something towards the raffle please let the Junior Committee or myself know. Thanks heaps everyone Cheers Shane Rider Group changes There has been a number of rider group changes since last rally, please take note of the rider group print out on Rally day. All riders that have been moved will be advised prior to the rally, if you haven t been already. Our biggest change is to our rather large Red group. Our instructors and riders found the group size too difficult to work with. The group has been split evenly between Blue and Red to give 5 or 6 riders per group. Please don t feel that anyone has been put back a group, this group had to be split into two to give the kids and instructors the best chance to receive and provide quality lessons. If anyone has any concerns regarding the group changes please contact Brett, Sue or Shane. Thank-you. SMYTHESDALE & DISTRICT PONY CLUB Inc.
