Hickstead Competition at our July Rally at Ballarat Pony Club Grounds CLASSIFIEDS At our July rally we are going to hold an in-house Dressage and Hickstead competition. For those kids unsure of how the event works the basics are that the competition includes a dressage test and then a single jumping course that includes both showjumping and cross country jumps in the one course. It will be a day of fun and encouragement for all our riders. Everyone will be given every opportunity to safely be involved with the least amount of worry for both riders and parents that we can provide. Anyone not taking part in the Hickstead will still have lessons as usual, they will be placed in appropriately combined groups for the day. There is still room for a few more riders if you would like to have a go, ring Brett if you are a little unsure about what is involved. Training on the WYEC Grounds Did you know you can access the centre without paying casual users fees and with PCAV insurance cover. You need to be clear that you are training for a special purpose such as you need some extra help with your horse, or you need to work on a certain discipline or training for a ODE, a games event or event of some kind. The training needs to be with our permanent instructors Allison Hayes, Sue Bradley, Nick Benyon or Gab Clark. It can be at any time during the week or on weekends. Just make sure you check if any other core users are using the centre at the time. You can use sand, cross country and even our jumps if you are prepared to get them out and pack them up again. Allison on 0400 446 363 Nick on 0416 387 408 Sue on 0439 428 769 Gab on 0422 002325 Talk directly to the Instructors to book in. Thank you to the Morgan family for their recent generous support of our gymkhana please tell your friends and family about their fencing business. Rays Outdoor & Camping Discounts Remember the discount with Rays available for SPC members. Just quote D77228 to get 22.5% discount on all Industrial work wear & footwear & 10% discount on all other items*. This offer applies to all Rays stores Australia wide. *Some exclusions apply. We need some more First Aid volunteers The club is on the hunt for some more parents who may have level 2 First Aid certificates. We need some more numbers in the team so that you all only need to do it at a few rallies each year. Please pop up your hand if you can help with this one, you can see Julie Lodge or Shane if you can help out. Thank-you. WYEC CASUAL USER FEES At the recent WYEC meeting a motion was put forward to reduce the casual user s fee for the core user groups of the centre. The WYEC committee, which includes members from Rokewood PC, Adult Riders and Smythesdale PC along with the WYEC management group voted unanimously to reduce the casual user fees for the core groups of the centre. The new User fees for the core user groups (which includes SPC) is as follows which now revolves around families. 12 month casual user Family $70 6 month casual user Family $50 1 month casual user Family $30 Day casual user same as one month. Guest pass - $10 per rider per day Included in the restructuring is that you may bring a friend to ride (if you have the casual user membership) for $10 per rider per day For further information call Liz Sayers (the booking Officer) on 0408585919 Very Important Note It is extremely important that all riders have paid at least the insurance component of their membership fees prior to mounting their horses at the July rally. If you haven t had the chance to pay your fees could you make sure that the insurance is paid as soon as you get to Pony Club so that if any thing untoward happens you are covered. Pony Club Keys For anyone having training on the WYEC grounds the keys are now held by Angela Taranto. Please organise pick up and drop off of the keys with Angela and please be fair and give as much notice as possible. For casual users you must still use the key at the Foodworks store in Smythesdale. Thanks

President s Spiel Hi there Pony Clubbers, From Your Committee There seems to be a magnitude of things going on around the club at the moment, so make sure you enjoy and hang on for the ride, so to speak. The word is that we have been successful with our recent grant application. That will mean approx 20 new sets of jump wings (40 wings) and 2 cups to go with each set. They will be new, light, all the same type and will look great. We won t know ourselves and will all be looking forward to seeing them. WYEC has also been successful in their application for a permanent 60x20 sand arena over behind the current sand arena. At our July and August rallies we will be welcoming quite a few new members, please look out for anyone that looks to be lost and introduce yourself. Mind you, at the July rally we may be the one s lost. Please go out of your way to make our new members feel part of our fantastic club. With the July rally, it is going to be a bit of a mixed up day, we will be running an in-house hickstead as well as running normal lessons and we will be in unfamiliar territory, so please be a bit forgiving if the day doesn t go 100% to plan, and especially where you can please be around and help the kids and instructors with the hickstead. Looking forward to the new membership year with lots of new faces and lots of new things happening around the club. I would also like to encourage a couple more parents to come and join the committee, please come and talk with us if you are even just slightly interested, there are a couple of small but very important jobs that could be easily handled by someone who has an interest in the quality touches around the club. All our thoughts go out to the Stewart family, Debby, Martin, Esther and Ethan on the passing or your Dad and Opa. We are all thinking of you. Thank-you and catch you all at the July rally and our Horse Trials the following week. Cheers Shane From your District Commissioner Hi there everyone, I hope that everyone has had an enjoyable school holidays and got to ride when there was a slight break in the rain. I know we need the rain to make the grass grow but it s fun to get out and about too. Remember to check your horses regularly during winter to keep an eye on their weight, condition can drop quickly in the cold. It s sometimes hard to tell with the rug on. I would like to thank everyone once again for their tremendous enthusiasm and support during the last rally and with their terrific effort for set up and pack up, Thank you a job well done. There has been an exciting development from PCAV with the new introduction of F grade Show Jumping which is a lower and perhaps a little easier (than E) for our beginning to compete grade 5 riders. F grade SJ will consist of 6-10 obstacles, staring at a minimum height of 35 cm as apposed to 45cm for E grade or a maximum start height of 45cm and a finishing height of only 55cm as apposed to 70 for E grade. This may be a little overwhelming so if you get a chance check out the PCAV web site for some interesting reading (www.ponyclubvic.org.au). I believe that the new SJ grade is a great incentive for more of our young riders to get involved in competing at a level that was perhaps a little too daunting in the past. Good luck to everyone wanting to have a go and I am sure we will receive a few more grading requests for SJ. Another rule change for those of you out and about competing: A fall of a competitor at obstacle during the x country stage of Horse Trials is now an elimination. Our July rally will be run a little differently for those riders wishing to complete the inhouse Hickstead with a few theory and practice sessions and then the mini comp in the afternoon. All riders that have elected not to participate in the hickstead will still have a very active rally similar to what the club normally runs with their instructors. We will be requiring some help from parents to supervise a jump on X country as the riders come through this stage, Any help would be greatly appreciated. Congratulations and a great effort to Angela Crawley, Thea Kershaw, Esther Stewart, Georgie Simpson and Jordan Almond who represented our club at Barwon Valley Horse trials it was a great day with some good results. And finally but not

least, good luck to everyone competing this month and I hope that you have an enjoyable rally, looking forward to seeing all your cheery faces. Cheers Brett. A NOTE FROM OUR CHIEF INSTRUCTOR Unfortunately we lose our Chief Instructor after the July rally. Sue is taking on some additional studies with her work and cannot be available on an ongoing basis. In a short time Sue has bought in some great ideas for our rallies and worked closely with Brett and myself to implement our committee s and instructors new ideas. It will be a shame to lose her from the role and we hope that she can still get along to some of our rallies and give the odd lesson or two. SMYTHESDALE & DISTRICT PONY CLUB Inc.
