REPORT OF THE CHAIR I am pleased to submit the 2017 year-end report for the Muskoka - Parry Sound Chapter, Ontario Building Officials Association. We saw a slight increase of 54 which includes both building officials and designers. I believe that the chapter had a very successful year in not only holding chapter meeting, but also in the organization of the AMTS Conference held at Deerhurst. Successful technical sessions and round table discussions focused on code update, and the impact that they would have in a rural setting. A total number of 10 Chapter meetings were held as well as an additional 3 of Septic meetings. These Chapter meeting included 5 technical presenters of various code related topics ranging from Residential Plumbing, ICF, TYVEK, ETC. Attendance at these meetings has indicated that the members are interested in obtaining and maintaining a high level of professionalism and knowledge in respect to their profession. In preparation of the 2017 AMTS conference the chapter traded golf clubs for hammers and build structures to be used in the live sprinkler demonstration. Our Chapter member Andy Jones continues to be a great voice on the Board of Directors and helps clarifying the direction and information provided by the OBOA. Keep up the good work! For training our chapter successfully ran the OBOA SB-12 update course and Building Officials and the law. With all the organization and time that took to host the AMTS Conference, it was here and gone in a flash. As I noted in my speech it was a team effort and I want to thank not only the committee members that hosted the event, but also those chapter members who took on more of the day to day office task to allow for the organization of the event. I don t think anyone would argue that our committee raised the bar for the next amts. They covered all grounds with a successful Theme night, great charity that was close to our chapter s hearts, and interesting technical sessions. Great job everyone. I also want to thank everyone who attended the event. I heard wonderful comments about not only the AMTS, but also the Muskoka and Parry Sound Area from many of you. I hope that your companions enjoyed a great program that was organized by the committee and shared storeys and experience that they encountered while exploring our piece region. As a final note I would like to thank everyone that supported me throughout my time as chapter chair. I d have to say that the role of chapter chair is very surprising and the duties shouldn t be taken lightly, however they should be enjoyed. To the committee members you have done a great job at keeping the chapter organized and informed and I wish you all the best on your future success. Thank you, Christopher W. OVERVIEW The Muskoka Parry Sound Chapter has a current membership of 54 members and with strong influence to both the Muskoka Home Builders Association, and a new developed Muskoka Design group. Our Chapter membership covers an area reaching as far north as the Village of South River, south to the Township of Georgian Bay, east to the Township of Lake of Bays and west to the Township of The Archipelago. This year we held a septic meeting every other meeting in the morning chaired by Sandy Bos from Muskoka Lakes. Our meetings include guest speakers providing us with informative presentations on various topics regarding building components and new products on the market. After the presentation the Chapter has the formal portion of the meeting ending with open conversation of topics of the day.
