The 2016 Miss El Cajon Scholarship Pageant Will salute Jimmie Johnson #48! Welcome and thank you for your interest in the Miss El Cajon Scholarship Pageant. The pageant has been a grand tradition in the City of El Cajon for more than 50 years. The program is rich with tradition and is an outstanding mentoring and leadership opportunity for young women. The Program is open to girls ages 6-11 and young women ages 12-22 years old. The on-stage pageant production is set for Saturday April 9, 2016 The pageant is produced by the Council for Youth Empowerment (CYE), a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, the entire staff are all volunteers with years of experience in pageantry and community leadership. There is NO ENTRY FEE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PAGEANT, Workshops are offered free of charge to all participants, no experience is required! Each young woman accepted into the program is asked to seek a business sponsor, sponsorships are $150.00, family and friends may sponsor your participation. The El Cajon business community is very supportive of the pageant! Each participant must qualify to participate, see page 5-7 for qualifications. Contestants will be scored in the following preliminary categories: Personal Interview, Speech, Evening Gown modeling (party dress for 6-8 yr olds), On-stage Impromptu Question, Poise, Personality and Overall Impression. Miss El Cajon and members of her Court take part in numerous City functions, and represent the City throughout the County of San Diego, as Goodwill Ambassadors of our great City. Miss Photogenic, Miss Congeniality, and Facebook Fan Favorites will also be selected. The 1 st Runner-ups in each age division of the pageant will be crowned Miss Rancho San Diego. Each Miss El Cajon and Miss Rancho San Diego titleholder crowned will move-on and represent the City of El Cajon during the Miss California Scholarship Pageant, August 13 & 14, 2016!

TIME COMMITMENT TO APPLY: Keep this page! Miss El Cajon Personal Development Workshops 2016. Being a Miss El Cajon Queen is a responsibility; it will require your presence during City events And you will have the honor of representing El Cajon or Rancho San Diego for the Miss California Pageant, August 13 & 14, 2016. Please do not apply if you can not make the commitment to represent the title for the State Pageant! Busy girls make the best queens - as they understand time management! Winning the crown is like most other things - you get out of the program, what you put into it! You are welcome and encouraged to attend as many Workshop/Rehearsals as possible If you are unable to make the time to give a good performance -wait until next year to apply. If you have previously participated in a pageant you are required to attend a minimum of 2 Workshops! IF I AM ACCEPTED INTO THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, WHAT WILL IT COST? Being a CYE Pageant Sister is a privilege, to be a member of the Sisterhood is an honor bestowed upon only the best and brightest young women. CYE reserves the right to refuse entry to our Scholarship Programs, to anyone at any time. Once accepted into the program: There are no entry fees no cost to participate in the Personal Development Workshops, no charge for the headshot Photos. Each young woman accepted into the program is required to secure sponsors for her personal Good Luck page in the Miss El Cajon Magazine/Program book! Your sponsors information will be proudly displayed on your personal page. The sponsorship fee is $150.00. Family and friends may sponsor you; you may have more that one sponsor. (The El Cajon business community is very supportive of contestants. If for some reason you are unable to secure a sponsor, please let us know we will help you!) You will need a evening gown/shoes for the evening gown portion of the pageant, you will also need a black (short) dress (or black blouse and skirt, or black slacks and black top, no jeans) and black shoes for the Pageant s Opening Production Number, not a cocktail dress, you will be given a black and white scarf to wear with your outfit, to go along with the pageant theme! In addition you will need a nice dress for Interview portion of the pageant, a dress you would wear to church or out to dinner with your family. (Solid colors work best!) No one should wear white shoes for a pageant, never - ever! PAGEANT AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS Miss El Cajon and Miss Rancho San Diego winners receive the official Miss El Cajon Crystal tiara, Miss El Cajon Satin Sash and presentation bouquet. Each winner crowned receives a $400 entry fee scholarship to represent the City during the 2016 Miss California Scholarship Pageant, August 13 & 14, 2016. Scholarship Awards: Miss El Cajon - $1,000.00 (if fewer than 6 Miss contestants $500.00 will be awarded) 1 st Runner-up: Miss Rancho San Diego - $500.00 (if fewer than 6 Miss contestants $300.00) Teen Miss El Cajon - $500.00 (if fewer than 6 Teen contestants $300.00) 1 st Runner-up: Teen Rancho San Diego - $125.00 Younger age divisions do not receive Cash Scholarships. Other Awards: Miss Congeniality and Miss Photogenic will be named in each age division. Top interview and top speech awards will be presented. I am female, single, never have been married, never have given birth to a child or have been a mother, and am of good moral character. 2) I have been a resident of El Cajon at least four (4) months prior to the area pageant. Determination of the area is based on home address/mailing address. If I am not a current resident of El Cajon, I may be eligible to compete if I am currently attending, or graduated from, Cuyamaca College or Grossmont College (proof of schooling required). If I am not a current resident of El Cajon, I may be eligible to compete if I currently attend a school located within the Cajon Valley School District, or the Grossmont High School District (proof of attendance must be submitted.) 5

3) I acknowledge that I am at least a 2.5 grade point average student; I have excellent school attendance; and have never been suspended from school. 4) I understand that I am accepting the responsibility for representing the City of El Cajon, and the Rancho San Diego area and that my public and personal conduct will be of the utmost concern during my reign. If my moral or personal conduct should for any reason become embarrassing to the Council for Youth Empowerment organization, the City of El Cajon, or the Miss El Cajon/Rancho San Diego Pageant, I will willingly give up my title. This would include but is not limited to; the suspension from school, posting inappropriate pictures or text on social media sites, the use of profanity in public and inappropriate conduct at events or community service venues. All remaining prizes shall be returned to the pageant committee. 5) I agree not to alter my personal appearance should I become Miss/Teen/Jr. Teen/Pre-Teen El Cajon or Rancho San Diego, including changing my hair color, or with tattoos or piercings that were NOT present when I won the title. 6) I have not been convicted of a crime of moral turpitude. 7) I have not appeared nude or semi-nude in any photo, movie, video, publication or event and will not appear in such during competition and during the year of reigning as a Miss El Cajon/Miss Rancho San Diego titleholder. 8) I will dress in an appropriate manner to all rehearsals, outings and events. This means no see through, low cut, revealing or tummy tops. Short Mini Skirts and ultra low rise pants are also not permitted. No Bare Midriffs. No tight fitting dress/shirts/pants or skirts. 9) Falsification of any fact on the entry form will disqualify me from further participation in all CYE pageants. 10) Once chosen A Miss El Cajon / Miss Rancho San Diego titleholder, I will not participate in any other pageant system of competition without the written consent from CYE s Executive Director, Billie Sangster. 11) If crowned a titleholder during the April 9, 2016 pageant I AGREE TO PARTICIPATE IN CYE S Miss California Scholarship Pageant during the year of my reign. I understand I will receive an Entry Fee Scholarship to the Miss California Scholarship Pageant, a $400 value, (scholarships are non-transferable and can not be redeemed for cash; I understand I will be responsible for the registration fee (not to exceed $150.00) for the State Pageant. The registration fee for State, may be deducted from my Scholarship Award, I understand that the remainder of my Scholarship from the Miss/Teen El Cajon/Miss/Teen Rancho San Diego Pageant will be paid once I participate and fulfill my commitments in the Miss California State Finals (scheduled for August 13 & 14, 2016). I agree to return to crown my successor during the following years Miss El Cajon/Miss Rancho San Diego Pageant. 12) I am aware that I will be required to provide my own wardrobe for the pageant. 13) I understand that it is highly recommended that I take part in all rehearsals and appearances as scheduled by the Miss El Cajon sponsors and directors for the betterment of myself and the program. If you can not take part in the rehearsals please wait until next year to enter the pageant. 14) All appearances as titleholders must be approved in advance by CYE s Miss El Cajon Scholarship Association Directors. 15) MODEL RELEASE: I do hereby give my permission for the Miss El Cajon Scholarship Association, and it s non-profit affiliations (including, but not limited to, Miss El Cajon Scholarship Pageants) to use my photographs in all publicity and promotion (including, but not limited to, newspapers, social media, television, magazines, etc). I also hereby waive any and all rights to inspect said photos. I understand and agree that I will not receive compensation for such photos. Miss El Cajon is a scholarship pageant that recognizes the academic and personal achievements of young women that reside and/or attend school in the City of El Cajon. Although the contestants are beautiful, the focus of this pageant is community service - there is no swimsuit competition. Should I win this pageant I hope to use my title to support and raise awareness for XXXXX (list your charity here and possibly add a personal story on your connection to help this cause). In addition this title would open doors for me as I strive to earn the Presidential Volunteer Service Award through my volunteer efforts. In addition to supporting me this sponsorship will be a wonderful marketing tool to promote your business as well. For a $150.00 sponsorship your name will be listed in the program book and your name will be announced by the emcee during the show. Each year 1000 books are printed, and distributed free of change throughout the year, during City events! Checks can be made payable to CYE, the Council for Youth Empowerment, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. All sponsorships are a tax deduction, as an advertising expense.
