WE ARE VOLUNTEERS; HEAR US ROAR! The sudden uptake in the flurry of activity at headquarters (201 Portage Avenue) is a clear sign that preparations for the 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings are well under way. Many busy volunteers are getting the buzz out, and they will keep the momentum building throughout the off-season. Watching your favourite curlers compete at the 2013 Scotties earlier this year, you saw the commercials; attending your own curling championships at local clubs, you drove past the buses with their ads emblazoned on the side; once at your curling rink, you can see the posters. They re all telling you the same thing: You gotta be there! In December, you our 1,000 hard-working and much-appreciated volunteers will be there! But first we ve got to get you up to speed and excited! World-class curlers descending upon our city to compete for the coveted spots on Canada s two Olympic teams and you ve got a behind-the-scenes look at all the action? Who are we kidding? You d better believe you re already excited! Andrea Verghetti, who is volunteering on the Uniforms and Merchandising Committee, is looking forward to an exciting week of curling with the opportunity to meet other people who share a passion for the game. I attended the Roar of the Rings in Edmonton in 2009, she said. I decided right then and there, if the event came to Winnipeg, I wanted to be a part of it! Our first Volunteer Rally will be a great opportunity to meet other curling fans. The Special Events and Volunteers Committee is excited to open the MTS Centre s doors to you for the first rally on Sunday, April 28. (Check the schedule on page 2 to see what time you should plan to arrive). This is where you ll get your accreditation that allows you to come and go during the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings. You ll also get your first look at the volunteer uniforms and try them on. Everyone gets one short-sleeved polo shirt and one jacket. Place your order with the uniform desk and then move on to meet the head of your committee. Since the Volunteer Rally is all about you, we ll also have a special surprise for you at the Appreciation booth. All we ll say now is make sure to bring your camera! We hope all your questions will be answered as you make your way through the stations at the Volunteer Rally. But you can always contact the Roar of the Rings office at 204-808-8899 (See further contact information on page 4). In the meantime, continue to get the word out. See the latest ticket offers, including the new Flex Pack, on page 8 and encourage your friends and family to get their tickets now. Come December, this city is going to roar! Thank you to ALL our amazing volunteers!
MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR Greetings, Volunteers! In just eight months, we will be hosting the most significant curling event ever held in this city. Right here in Winnipeg, the best curlers in the country will end a four-year odyssey culminating in the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings The Canadian Curling Trials. The athletes will need to compete at the highest level in order to represent our country at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. It will be up to us to make this event an amazing experience for all: the athletes, the volunteers, and perhaps most importantly, our great curling fans. You are one of approximately 1,000 volunteers who possess unparalleled passion for the game of curling and great pride in our city and province. I am confident you will provide the hard work to make this a memorable and successful event. Your time and efforts are appreciated more than ever as we hold this prestigious event during what is always a very busy festive season. I thank you for your efforts, and for taking the time to be involved. I look forward to working with you and sincerely hope you enjoy the event. In that regard, I pledge to do all I can to ensure a positive volunteer experience. The Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings is a not-to-be-missed event! I encourage you all to help us fill those stands by promoting the event whenever and wherever possible. I anticipate a highly electric atmosphere all week long because when there s curling at this high calibre, it means one thing: YOU GOTTA BE THERE!!
