Head Coach s Corner It is so exciting to see our team growing and working hard at the beginning of this new season! First of all I would like to thank all of you parents who attended our new season parents meetings. I hope you found the information useful and that you enjoyed meeting with your children s coaches. I also would like to thank those of you that attended the Club Management Course that USA swimming taught this month. It was a great course, and very interesting. I learned a lot and I am sure you did too! And last but not least, thanks to those parents that stepped up to be part of our board of directors. It is because of you parents that get involved at different levels that we have a great swim team in our community and that your children are able to benefit from it. Keep up the good work! We have some exciting events coming up! October 10 th was picture day! It was great to see so many of you there. Pictures will be delivered in a few weeks. More photos may be ordered if you need more. October 15 th we will be having our traditional Running of the Sharks fundraiser, get your pledges and come swim some laps and some fun relays. There are some great prices for those of you that raise money for our team. Our Fall Frenzy swim meet is coming up in November. Please plan on signing up for that meet! It would be great to have all Tigersharks participating in it! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments of concerns after practice or through email. Let s have a great Season and Happy Halloween! Coach Gaby
SHARK BITES Page 2 of 5 Noteworthy News from our Team Manager Welcome to the new swim season! Although I know most of you I would like to take a minute to introduce myself and my new position. My name is Becki Boehnke and I am taking on the role of the Team Manager. I have been involved in the Carson Tigersharks Swim team for nearly 12 years. I started as a mom with zero swim knowledge and a daughter who wanted to be on the summer team. Well, my daughter Tatum is now swimming for the University of Northern Colorado and I am still here! I found over the years the incredible opportunities swimming has to offer. I would like to help provide similar opportunities for your children. I am passionate about growing the team and making swimming a big part of this community and I am extremely excited about our future! Believe me when I say, I had the same questions that you have; they are all worth asking. Please stop by the office anytime (by the men s bathroom) to get information or just chat. My office hours are M~F from 2:30-6:00. And finally, I encourage you to jump in with both feet as swimming is a very rewarding sport for your children. Meet your NEW Board of Directors Newly elected executive officers: Dale Defilippi ~ President Jill Sutherland ~ Vice President Tammy Meyer ~ Treasurer Crystal Johnson ~ Secretary Members at Large: Jeff Fine Ruth Defilippi John Branco Ann Pott Gary Kolb Welcome to the Tigersharks Board and thank you for your commitment to the team. Page 3 of 5 Shark Bites Get the SQUAD SCOOP RED GROUP What a great start to a new short course season! All our swimmers that swam in the meet at Douglas did such a great job. They all dropped time in the majority of the races they swam. For the 9-10 boys in the Red Group, Jakob Clark placed first in the majority of his races and won High Point for his age group! His biggest drop came in the 200 Free with a 20 second drop and a win, out touching his opponent by.5 of a second. Our 11 12 boys did an assume job! They all placed in the top 20. Jay Session was 7 th ; Reece Canfield was 14 th, closely followed by Tristan Woslum who placed 16 th. Jay s most outstanding swims were in his 100 Butterfly and in his 200 IM. In both races Jay dropped 8 seconds. Reece s most memorable swim was his 100 Backstroke where he had a huge drop of 10 seconds. Tristan s best swim was his 100 Freestyle, dropping 5 seconds from his entered time. Not to be out done, the 11-12 girls from the Red Group did just as spectacular. Leading the way was Christy Krahn placing 12 th in the 11-12 girls age group. Christy s biggest time drop was in her 100 Individual Medley, dropping 7 seconds. I would have to say that Morgan Nelson s best race was her 500 Freestyle that she swam for the first time! Kaitlyn Nelson had the biggest time drop in a single event out of the whole Red Group. She dropped 26 seconds in her 100 Backstroke! Nora Streng was our only 13-14 girl from the Red Group to sign up for the meet way to go Nora!! This was Nora s first swim meet in a while, and she did a great job. Her best swim was in the 100 Backstroke, placing in the top ten. Again, nice job to all our swimmers! Hoping that more of you will be able to sign up for our next meet in October, Reno s King of the Hill! Happy Swimming, Coach Monica BLUE GROUP I am so excited for this season with my Blue Group. Everyone has been working so hard. We got a few new swimmers this month that moved up from Super Squad: Sarah, Hitha, Andi, and Sophia. Congratulations ladies! I'm so happy to have you with us. The swim meet at Minden this month was a success for the Blue Group. Victoria, Haylee, Megan, Katon, and Hitha were there. You all swam so well! A lot of best times were reached. Even better, I could see you have been listening in practice, keep up the good work. I hope to see everyone at our next meet. It would be so great if everyone was there. They are so much fun and I get a chance to see what we need to work on in practice. Coach Genevieve WHITE GROUP For those of you who do not know me Richard or Rich is fine. First of all, I would like to say how excited I am to be coaching for the Tigersharks. I have been here for 4 weeks now coaching the White group and Star Club.
