Dear Members, Exciting information to share - ONCJC together with Mid Ohio Boogie Club is sponsoring a one-day event on August 11, 2018. The day includes three one-hour workshops featuring local instructor Stevie Bliss (WCS) and Don and Jennifer Ewell (Night Club 2-Step) from the Columbus area. Our own, Jimmy Flynn, will be teaching a Shag lesson. After a short break, a buffet dinner will be served followed by an evening of dancing and fellowship. The LIEDERKRANZ is located in Mansfield, Ohio, an equal distance between the two clubs. This facility has a large wooden dance floor with plenty of space to set up rectangular tables, seating 8/table, around the dance floor. Music will be provided by Deejays from both clubs. Ticket price for the all-day event is only $30/person. As invitations are being extended to other dance clubs, tickets are sure to go fast. So, do not procrastinate or you might miss out on this wonderful opportunity. Deadline for purchasing tickets is July 28 th. For more information, please see the flyer included with this newsletter. You can also check out our website (www.oncjc.org) or (wwwmidohioboogieclub.org). Another exciting upcoming event is Wednesday, June 20, when ONCJC Goes Hollywood! Mary Friberg & her committee are ready to roll out the red carpet for the evening s festivities. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity for Puttin on the Ritz. Dress as though you were attending the Academy Awards or maybe as one of the lucky nominees! Your Executive Board will be trying to outdo one another as they dress in their finest and hope to win your vote (cash donation). The Board member who collects the most money wins bragging rights for the year. Akron Blind Society is the real winner as all money collected that evening will be added to prior donations to be presented to them at the end of the year. So, don t forget to bring a little extra cash on June 20. I better get started on my costume. I think I will dress like As always, happy to be your President, Cheryl Minnich

DANCE TIP Series 1 1a - Keeping The Feet Every dance style [East Coast Swing (left), ChaCha, Rumba, Waltz, etc.] has a basic dance pattern. The pattern is communicated by calling out numbered steps, which may include syncopated &s. The idea is to move the correct foot with each count and & as they are spoken or thought. When you step in time, you also transfer all or some of your weight with each exchange of the left to right or right to left step. The count does not change or stop as you turn or change direction, neither should your feet; thus keeping the feet. Why Dancing Is The Most Effective Exercise For The Brain Exercise has the beneficial effect of slowing down or even counteracting agerelated decline in mental and physical capacity, says Dr. Kathrin Rehfeld, lead author for the study, based at the Berman Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, Magdeburg, Germany. In this study, we show that two different types of physical exercise (dancing and endurance training) both increase the area of the brain that declines with age. In comparison, it was only dancing that lead to noticeable behavioral changes in terms of improved balance.
