BASI LEVEL 1 Qualifies you to teach novice and early intermediates in a non-mountain environment, ie. the UK on artificial and indoor slopes. For plenty of people this is all you will need in terms of a qualification that you will use, for others it s just one of the required stepping stones en-route to Level 2 and beyond. BASI LEVEL 2 For instructors that wish to work in the mountains on a part time or peak seasonal basis. BASI Level 2 skiers have a competent knowledge, ability and understanding to safely teach alpine skiing up to and including parallel standard on marked pistes. FIRST AID As with all BASI qualifications, a first aid qualification is required alongside this award for it to be officially recognised and signed off by BASI. First Aid training leading to a recognised qualification is included in the Basecamp course. i We include all qualifications in the Ultimate Level 1 & 2 Instructor Course and the Level 1 & 2 Course fee. Frequently Asked Questions WHICH COURSE SUITS ME BEST? If you are looking to work as a snowboard instructor, the combined Level 1 & 2 course provides the best path into the industry. It is ideal for anyone looking to qualify as a Level 2 instructor and wishing to return the following season to work as an instructor, or for those wanting to seriously improve their riding and enjoy a once in a lifetime experience, with most things included in the package. If you are just looking to get the best training and start instructing in a short period oftime, or just want to teach in UK snow domes or dry slopes then check out the BASI Level 1 course. HOW GOOD DO YOU HAVE TO BE AT RIDING BEFORE A LEVEL 1 INSTRUCTOR COURSE? We ask that you can board comfortably down red runs and occasional blacks. IS THE COURSE HARD TO PASS? The level 1 isn t hard to pass. It s an entry level qualification. Participants will be assessed on their ability to perform and teach on the mountain. We get a 100% pass rate year in year out. The Level 2 in a big step up from the Level 1, however the training you receive prior to the exam puts you in an excellent position to pass. WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED? If you are doing a longer course, it is better to buy snowboard kit than hire. We recommend a decent all-mountain board that is aimed at intermediate- advanced riders. You should also wear a helmet at all times, and decent goggles will make a big difference. It is important that you are comfortable so you can focus on the training, so make sure you have lots of warm ski wear and well-fitting boots. +44(0)208 789 9055 HELLO@BASECAMPGROUP.COM 12

RESORT OVERVIEW Méribel is located 1400 metres above sea level in the heart of the famous 3 Valleys and it is where it all began for Basecamp. Situated between Courchevel and Val Thorens, Meribel has a lively town centre with loads of good shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Beware, a season in Méribel is highly addictive! Although the 3 Valleys is home to 3 main resorts, there are actually a total of 18 resorts within the valleys, giving you some indication of just how popular this region and the Méribel valley is. As well as the two main resorts, Méribel and Méribel-Mottaret, the valley also includes a number of traditional villages. Together they form one of the most popular destinations for British skiers (the resort was in fact founded by a British Colonel, Peter Lindsay, in 1938). Throughout the winter the resort is packed with people, from one week holiday makers to full seasonaires, so meeting people is never an issue. There are lots of après venues and Méribel is well known for having great places to enjoy a drink after another incredible day on the mountain. Méribel has a huge amount to offer with something to suit everyone...that s why we love it so much! +44(0)208 789 9055 HELLO@BASECAMPGROUP.COM 21
There are huge areas for freeriders to explore with lots of powder faces. MOUNTAINS The ski area around Méribel is the largest in the world with over 600km of pistes, which are well connected by an extensive lift system. Méribel is located at the center of the 3 Valleys in the French Alps, making it a good base from which you can explore the entire region. The resort has plenty of terrain to challenge any level of skier or rider, and the variety and diversity of slopes the 3 Valleys region has to offer is unrivalled. Around the Altiport you ll find gentle, tree-lined runs ideal for beginners. Once mastered, you can move on to the abundance of wide red runs and practice some high speed carving. Take a run down under the Plan de l Homme for some good tree runs and rock dodging. There s good off-piste at Mont Vallon and Côte Brune which shouldn t be missed, along with another 14,000 hectares for you to explore. There are two main Snowparks: the Moon park and the new Area 43 DC park. The Moon park includes a triple line kicker for all levels, some advanced rails, a big spine jump and a new step up to step down feature, plenty to keep you practicing your freestyle for the season. For the more advanced skiers and riders, the DC Park boasts a full-size half pipe, huge kickers, and advanced rails. This is where serious freestlye riders can throw some awesome tricks. Whether it is the half-pipe in the DC park, the couloirs and bowls of Courchevel, the snowsure glaciers in Val Thorens, the fierce moguls of the Roc de Tougne or the off-piste of Mont Vallon and Côte Brune, the 3 Valleys has so much to offer. +44(0)208 789 9055 HELLO@BASECAMPGROUP.COM 22
CHALET LIVING IN THE HEART OF the Three Valleys! Where you live, and what you eat are key elements to your season, and we have made sure that you don t have to sacrifice on any level. We provide comfortable accommodation at high altitude, with home cooked meals. Méribel is famous for its ski in - ski out chalet accommodation, and the Basecamp courses are no different. We have three separate chalets around the valley, all in prominent locations, where you will be hosted by a chalet team from Element Ski Travel and treated to freshly prepared daily breakfasts, afternoon tea, and six two course evening meals a week. THE TICKET TO RIDE MOUNTAIN LODGE The flagship accommodation for our courses. A social bustling chalet in the centre of Mottaret, with two large kick back areas, apple TV, comfortable sofas, ski tuning area, and a number of comfortable bedrooms. Twin share accommodation is provided as standard, and there are a couple of triples and quads in the Mountain Lodge, but these come with ample space, and ensuite accommodation to make up for it. CHALET LEOPOLD Next door to the Mountain Lodge in our Mottaret hub, this chalet is close to the slopes with easy access to the wider 3 valleys area. It has 5 comfortable twin rooms, with a dedicated chalet host. CHALET LES MATINES Nestled amongst the trees on a snowy path, Chalet Les Matines is a classic alpine chalet that is genuinely ski in/ski out, whilst only being a 3 minute walk from the centre of Meribel. +44(0)208 789 9055 HELLO@BASECAMPGROUP.COM 23

LIFE The night life in Méribel is wellrenowned. After a long day on the slopes, the après options are endless with loads of slope-side bars. Après at La Folie Douce in Méribel, with extravagantly themed dancers, awesome DJ s, and lots of dancing on the tables, is an unforgettable experience. Jacks Bar is the most popular in town and Le Rond Point (voted in the top 10 après bars in the world) is famous for its live music and great atmosphere. For those wanting more than just après, the pubs and clubs of Méribel stay open until the early hours. Over the last 10 years Basecampers have taken favourably to the well known O Sullivans (formerly Dick s T-Bar) which is the central hub for loud music, great cocktails and a busy dance floor. The club is very popular amongst seasonaires and guarantees a great night out. If clubbing until the early hours is not up your street then La Taverne, a cosy bar with a relaxed atmosphere and great live music, is a great alternative, ideal for those who have their own style and way of doing things. Whatever you are looking for in the evenings, we can guarantee that you won t be disappointed and Méribel s huge choice of evening entertainment is one of the reasons why we started here 10 years ago. +44(0)208 789 9055 HELLO@BASECAMPGROUP.COM 26
I did A Basecamp course in 2009. Before i did the course i would say i was a good snowboarder but the course really allowed me to technically enhance my riding and because of this i gained my Level 2 BASI. After the course I was offered a job in NZ after but broke my wrist which was annoying but since the course i have done another season in morzine, set up my own ski and snowboard brand and hoping to do a season next year!! My best time at basecamp was meeting all the new people and the summer/spring snow, riding and enjoying the weather and stomping new tricks. 5 year plan is to carry on riding, doing seasons and spreading my brand worldwide. I d recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their riding technically, and fun people who enjoy the mountains and love the snow.
