NZ Dairy Event All New Zealand Show Schedule 27 th 28 th & 29 th January 2016 Manfeild, Feilding ENTRIES CLOSE SUNDAY 29 th NOVEMBER 2015

Dear Exhibitor On behalf of the New Zealand Dairy Event s Management Committee in conjunction with Manawatu Show Promotions, I would like to challenge all breed enthusiasts to participate in this prestigious national dairy event. A lot of work has been done by the committee to ensure those attending will be well catered for and we know you will end up having a memorable and enjoyable time. The magnificent Manfeild Agri-Centre facilities are second to none and I believe are the best in the Southern Hemisphere if not the world for exhibiting cattle. This is not an ordinary show - make no mistake about that!! It certainly attracts the very best cattle from all around New Zealand. This year the decision was made to halve the cost of the entry fee. With the Dairy downturn and tough economic times for farmers and businesses alike there have been a few changes to the finances for NZDE. Sponsorship has been reduced and we have had to think outside the square to still stage this magnificent event that has become a permanent date on everyone s calendar. With halving the cost of the entry fee to help our exhibitors with their cost of competing there will be no prizemoney for each class but there will be product prizes for Championship classes in each breed including the Youth Show. However there may still be some cash prizes or products available. **The Allbreeds Supreme Champion will receive a Travel Voucher** We have continued with the major focus being on the farming youth of our country, as we all know, they are our future. We have agreed with a request from the Breed Societies to include all the youth cattle entries into their Breed Sections as well as the All Breeds. The challenge we now have is to also get all the dairy farming fraternity to make a concerted effort and get their youth involved. For 2016 we will be again working with Holstein Friesian NZ in holding the All Dairy Breeds National Youth Camp at Manfeild Park from Saturday 23 rd to Tuesday 26 th January 2016. This year the winner of The Shirley Crothers Memorial Trophy will receive a trip to the UK to experience The UK Dairy Event and be hosted by the UK Ayrshire Breeders. This will be a wonderful trip and I encourage all youth to enter see the schedule for full details. On behalf of the NZDE Committee I have to say a huge thankyou to Lawrence & Judi Satherley for their tireless efforts and contribution to NZDE over the years. Lawrence is now taking a step back and fortunately or unfortunately I find myself back in the Chairman s role a transition made easy due to the fantastic job Lawrence has done and having a team of great people on the committee. Another one of the features will again be the Semex Summer Sensational Sale. If you have an animal for this please do not hesitate to contact us. If you have any further enquires please contact either: Neville Turnbull, (Event Manager) 06 367 8089 Email; nzdairyevent@paradise.net.nz Selwyn Donald, (Chairman) 06 308 9942 Charlie Cox, (Chief Steward) 06 379 8096 Manawatu Show Promotions (Office) 06 323 1886 This year our theme is Year of the Family please take some much needed time out and come along to NZDE in January 2016 to enjoy fellowship and support as we really are one big unique family! Selwyn Donald Chairman for NZ Dairy Event

It is the exhibitors responsibility to record all animal movements with Nait 48 hours prior to leaving the farm/property for the Event and then within 48 hours of returning to the farm/property from the Event. RULES: Any alteration of conformation of cattle as per the Manawatu A & P Assn rules will be considered malpractice and could be disqualified from the Event. We expect all exhibitors to keep their stalls clean and tidy at all times and encourage those that want to dress up their stalls please do so. All rubbish is to be placed in the rubbish bins provided and all cattle waste, saw-dust, shavings etc. to be placed in the allocated/signed areas. We ask all exhibitors not to bring the large bales of baleage inside the stadium. No dogs allowed in the stadium, day or night. Unacceptable behaviour, drunkenness & under-age drinking will not be permit-ted. Alcohol is not to be visual to the public. These are magnificent facilities, with lots of visitors we need to keep our image at all time's first class! "Failure to respect the facility could jeopardise our event for the future." BY-LAWS: All cattle in the breed sections must be entered in the name of the bona-fide owner. The date of birth of all breeding cattle must be stated at the time of entry. The age of cattle shall be computed as at 1st June. NB: As the age of all cattle is determined from the 1st June in each year, all animals shall be deemed to be one year older on this date. NO STRAW is to be brought onto the grounds. Sawdust bedding will be available for all animals. Feed receptacles will not be provided in the Dairy Pavilion. Exhibitors wishing to feed meal or dry stock foods should bring suitable containers with them. Water troughs are located in convenient positions in the Pavilion. The Chief Steward along with the NZ Dairy Event Committee has the right to ask any exhibitor to leave the event if they fail to comply with the rules of both the NZ Dairy

Event and Manfeild Park. SECURITY: While the Management Committee have made plans to ensure that those attending the NZDE, are safe and that the event venue is secure, this year we have engaged Security Services to monitor Manfeild Events Centre over the period of the 2016 Event. NZ Police will attend our Shed Meeting at the start of our event this year. Attendance by all exhibitors and supporters is Compulsory at this meeting. The Police have been engaged to advise on and support security measures to assist the Management Committee in managing for a safe environment. NZDE 2016 CODE OF SHOW PRACTICE: The NZDE Management Committee have determined the following Codes of Practice. The showing of registered pedigree cattle is an important part of the promotion, merchandising and breeding programme of many breeders. Additionally, it is an important part of the programme of the New Zealand Dairy Event to stimulate and sustain interest in breeding registered pedigree cattle. This relates to both spectators and exhibitors. In this connection, the Management Committee of the New Zealand Dairy Event believes that it is in the best interests of the breeders of registered pedigree cattle to maintain a reputation of integrity and to present a wholesome and progressive image of their cattle in the show ring. It recognises that there are certain practices in the proper care and management of dairy cattle that are necessary in the course of moving dairy cattle to and between shows that is advisable to keep them in a sound, healthy condition so that they might be presented in the show ring in a natural, normal appearance and condition. Conversely, it recognises certain practices in the handling and presentation of cattle in the show ring that are unacceptable. In keeping with the basic philosophy of the New Zealand Dairy Event, ethics are an individual responsibility of the owner of each animal shown. Violations of these policies are subject to the disciplinary action of the NZDE s Rules. The following practices or procedures are considered unacceptable and defined as being fraudulent and/or unethical in the showing of registered pedigree cattle. 1.1 Misrepresenting the age and/or milking status of the animal for the class in which it is shown. 1.2 Treating the animal, particularly the udder, internally or externally with an irritant or counter-irritant, or other substance, to artificially improve the conformation. 1.3 Surgery or Insertion of foreign matter under the skin, performed to change the natural contour or appearance of the animal s body, though not to preclude practices required or involved in normal management. 1.4 Criticising or interfering with the judge, show management or other exhibitors while in the show ring, or other conduct detrimental to the animal s breed or the All NZ Show. 1.5 Setting teats or manipulation of a teat to alter its normal position such as to unnaturally hold it plumb or to alter its length, is unacceptable and shall be regarded as malpractice. 1.6 It will be the responsibility of All New Zealand Show judges at the NZDE to take appropriate action if any teats are set, or in any way manipulated to an unnatural position. While all milking animals must be subject to examination, the judge will be instructed to closely examine the top five animals, not only for set teats but for any other form of tampering requiring discrimination or disqualification. 1.7 The following is considered to detract from the image of the show ring when carried to excess and will be given slight to serious discrimination in placing animals within a class. This would be seen unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of the show person.
