NZ Dairy Event All New Zealand Show Schedule 28 th 29 th & 30 th January 2015 Manfeild, Feilding ENTRIES CLOSE SUNDAY 23 rd NOVEMBER 2014

Dear Exhibitor On behalf of the New Zealand Dairy Event s Management Committee in conjunction with Manawatu Show Promotions, I would like to challenge all breed enthusiasts to participate in this prestigious national dairy event. A lot of work has been done by the committee to ensure those attending will be well catered for and we know you will end up having a memorable and enjoyable time. The magnificent Manfeild Agri-Centre facilities are second to none and I believe are the best in the Southern Hemisphere if not the world for exhibiting cattle. This is not an ordinary show - make no mistake about that!! With top prize money and the amazing facilities, it certainly attracts the very best cattle from all around New Zealand. For our seventh event we have once again a very challenging programme with some new features that will take this year s event to an even higher level. A feature event will be the holding of the NZ Milking Shorthorn Associations North Island Championship. We have continued with the major focus being on the farming youth of our country, as we all know, they are our future. We have agreed with a request from the Breed Societies to include all the youth cattle entries into their Breed Sections as well as the All Breeds. The challenge we now have is to also get all the dairy farming fraternity to make a concerted effort and get their youth involved. For 2015 we will be again working with Holstein Friesian NZ in holding the All Dairy Breeds National Youth Camp at Manfeild Park from Saturday 24 th to Tuesday 27 th January 2015. We have also made arrangements with Alta Genetics to sponsor a youth to the Youth Camp and a team entry from the Camp into the Youth Team Challenge. Another one of the features will again be the Semex Summer Sensational Sale. If you have an animal for this please do not hesitate to contact us. Manfeild Park is ideally situated for both islands to attend. You are only 10 minutes from Palmerston North, regarded as the hub of New Zealand If you have any further enquires please contact either: Lawrence Satherley, (Chairman) 06 325 8354 Manawatu A&P (Office) 06 323 1886 Selwyn Donald, (Committee) 06 308 9942 Charlie Cox, (Chief Steward) 06 379 8096 Neville Turnbull, (Event Manager) 06 367 8089 Email; nzdairyevent@paradise.net.nz See you all in January at the 2014 New Zealand Dairy Event Lawrence Satherley Chairman for NZ Dairy Event

BY-LAWS: All cattle in the breed sections must be entered in the name of the bona-fide owner. The date of birth of all breeding cattle must be stated at the time of entry. The age of cattle shall be computed as at 1st June. NB: As the age of all cattle is determined from the 1st June in each year, all animals shall be deemed to be one year older on this date. If under one year of age, they must be eligible for entry. SECURITY: While the Management Committee have made plans to ensure that those attending the NZDE, are safe and that the event venue is secure, this year we have engaged Security Services to monitor Manfeild Events Centre over the period of the 2015 Event. NZ Police will attend our Shed Meeting at the start of our event this year. Attendance by all exhibitors and supporters is Compulsory at this meeting. The Police have been engaged to advise on and support security measures to assist the Management Committee in managing for a safe environment. NZDE 2015 CODE OF SHOW PRACTICE: The NZDE Management Committee have determined the following Codes of Practice. The showing of registered pedigree cattle is an important part of the promotion, merchandising and breeding programme of many breeders. Additionally, it is an important part of the programme of the New Zealand Dairy Event to stimulate and sustain interest in breeding registered pedigree cattle. This relates to both spectators and exhibitors. In this connection, the Management Committee of the New Zealand Dairy Event believes that it is in the best interests of the breeders of registered pedigree cattle to maintain a reputation of integrity and to present a wholesome and progressive image of their cattle in the show ring. It recognises that there are certain practices in the proper care and management of dairy cattle that are necessary in the course of moving dairy cattle to and between shows that is advisable to keep them in a sound, healthy condition so that they might be presented in the show ring in a natural, normal appearance and condition. Conversely, it recognises certain practices in the handling and presentation of cattle in the show ring that are unacceptable. In keeping with the basic philosophy of the New Zealand Dairy Event, ethics are an individual responsibility of the owner of each animal shown. Violations of these policies are subject to the disciplinary action of the NZDE s Rules. The following practices or procedures are considered unacceptable and defined as being fraudulent and/or unethical in the showing of registered pedigree cattle. 1.1 Misrepresenting the age and/or milking status of the animal for the class in which it is shown. 1.2 Treating the animal, particularly the udder, internally or externally with an irritant or counter-irritant, or other substance, to artificially improve the conformation. 1.3 Surgery or Insertion of foreign matter under the skin, performed to change the natural contour or appearance of the animal s body, though not to preclude practices required or involved in normal management. 1.4 Criticising or interfering with the judge, show management or other exhibitors while in the show ring, or other conduct detrimental to the animal s breed or the All NZ Show. 1.5 Setting teats or manipulation of a teat to alter its normal position such as to unnaturally hold it plumb or to alter its length, is unacceptable and shall be regarded as malpractice. 1.6 It will be the responsibility of All New Zealand Show judges at the NZDE to take appropriate action if any teats are set, or in any way manipulated to an unnatural position. While all milking animals must be subject to examination, the judge will be instructed to closely examine the top five animals, not only for set teats but for any other form of tampering requiring discrimination or disqualification. 1.7 The following is considered to detract from the image of the show ring when carried to excess and will be given slight to serious discrimination in placing animals within a class. This would be seen unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of the show person.
