The Raiders, however, have won three of the last four games in the series played at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium including two one-goal decision in 2009 (10-9) and 2011 (5-4). The Mids snapped Colgate s 3-0 run in Annapolis on April 9, 2016, when Navy posted a 16-9 victory over the Raiders. The two teams have met 18 times since the Midshipmen joined the Patriot League in 2004. During that span, Navy has produced an 11-7 record and has outscored Colgate, 178-146. Navy and Colgate have twice faced one another in the Patriot League Tournament and have been met with split results. In 2007, the Mids claimed a 15-9 win over the Raiders in the championship game, before dropping the program s first Patriot League Tournament contest at the 2008 semifinals against eventual champion Colgate. Six of the last 10 contests between the two programs have been decided by one goal. COLGATE-NAVY CONNECTIONS Navy associate head coach Ryan Wellner s brother, Rob, is a 1997 graduate of Colgate. He was a starting defenseman for the Raiders, who played under Pace Kessenich, a 1982 graduate of the Naval Academy and lacrosse letterwinner for the Mids. 4 LAST TIME VS. COLGATE COLGATE 10, NAVY 4 APRIL 8, 2017 HAMILTON, N.Y. Score By Quarters 1 2 3 4 F Navy (5-7, 3-4 PL) 0 2 1 1 -- 4 Colgate (4-7, 2-4 PL) 5 1 2 2 -- 10 Colgate raced out to a 5-0 first quarter lead and never looked back as the Raiders dealt Navy a 10-4 loss at Crown Field last April. Navy came into the game having averaged 11.0 goals per game in its previous three games, all victories, but the Mids were unable to solve Colgate s defense which was led by a 12-save effort by senior keeper Brandon Burke. The Mids got on the scoreboard at the 11:34 mark in the second quarter when attackman Chris Hill snatched the ball out of the air after the initial pass to Dave Little deflected off the head of the stick and punched in the unassisted goal. Navy trimmed the Colgate lead to three (5-2) at the 9:09 mark when attackman Ryan Wade found midfielder Greyson Torain cutting in from the left wing and Torain stuck the 5-yard shot. Colgate answered just 11 seconds later, however, when Brady Dove s outlet pass following a faceoff win was deflected by Colgate s Atnhony Abbadessa. Junior attackman Chase Wittich promptly picked up the loose ball and found the back of the net to give the Raiders a 6-2 advantage at the half. Navy scored the first goal of the second half when midfielder Colin Flounlacker found Hill at the crease who then faked Burke high before tucking in his second goal of the game with a shot at his knees. Back within three (6-3), Navy would be held scoreless for the next 21 minutes while Colgate went on a 4-0 run to seal the win. Hill paced the Mids with two goals, while Flounlacker added a goal and an assist. Senior co-captains John Trainor and Chris Fennell combined for seven of Navy s 11 caused turnovers, while Dove finished the day 9-for-17 from the faceoff x and grabbed a team-high six ground balls. Wittich led Colgate with four goals, while Brown and Abbadessa pitched in two apiece. Since the 2015 Maryland game, he s started 45 consecutive games in which he was eligible to play (12 in 2015, 16 in 2016, 7 in 2017, 10 in 2018). He missed seven games a year ago with a broken foot suffered against the Terps, but started every game he played in. Torain, Kern and Christian Daniel (10) have started every game since arriving at Navy. Rees started every game as a sophomore (16 gms) before suffering a season-ending knee injury in the fall of his junior year. He has starterd every game this season. Ryan Wade 20 0 17 Boston U., 2.25.17 Christian Daniel 10 8 0 --- Wade and Daniel are the only two players on the squad to post a point in every game this season. Wade has produced a point in each of the last 20 contests dating back to last year s Bucknell game (3.4). He was held without a point in just one game in 2017 - vs. Boston U. Wade has produced an assist in each of the last 17 contests and played just three games a year ago where he didn t post an assist - Boston U., Penn, Lafayette. Heading into the weekend, he stands sixth on the Mids career wins list with 197 and trails fifth-place Chris Dingman (2000-03) by 61. He needs 3 more wins to become only the sixth player in school history to win 200 or more faceoffs. Three Navy players are currently ranked among the Mids top 20 in career caused turnovers. Co-captain DJ Plumer stands sixth with 40, just 5 out of the top 5. Senior Hiram Carter is 14th with 21 takeaways, while senior Michael Strack has amassed 19 and is tied for 15th on the list. Additionally, Strack is ranked 19th on the Mids single-season caused turnovers list with 14. Junior midfielder Ryan Wade stands just 5 assists outside of the Mids all-time top 20 list. He has dealt out 41 assists over 26 contests. Owen McFadden (1964-66) holds the #20 slot with 46 career assists. Senior Jack Ray needs 7 points to become the 33rd player in school history with 100 points, while junior Greyson Torain needs 15. Ray, who has targeted 71 career goals, is also just 2 goals shy of joining the Mids all-time top 20. Billy Looney (2004-07), Bob Wehman (1984-87) and Brendan Schneck (1977-78) occupy the #20 spot on the list with 73 goals. HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE 2018 marks the 57th season Navy will have played at least one game at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Navy earned a 5-1 victory over Delaware on Feb. 21, 2016, in what was the program s 200th game played at the stadium. The Mids own a 134-80 record (62.6) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Having played at least a game a year at the stadium for 42 consecutive years, Navy stepped away in 2003, allowing for state-of-the-art renovations to take place. Navy has played all of its home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium since the beginning of the 2004 campaign. Navy owns a 67-35 record (65.7) in games played at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium since the start of the 2004 campaign. Since 2004, Navy has lost back-to-back games at home 10 times. In its 111th year of men s lacrosse, Navy has lost 3 straight home games just 9 times... 1980 #1 Virginia, #2 Johns Hopkins, #9 N. Carolina 1985 Washington College, N. Carolina, Army 2003 #13 Rutgers, Air Force, #4 Georgetown, #4 Maryland 2008 #4 Georgetown, #7 Johns Hopkins, #4 Johns Hopkins 2011 Colgate, #7 Maryland, #17 Army 2013 Towson, #1 Maryland, Army 2014 Colgate, #1 Loyola, #6 Johns Hopkins... and four-straight home games just once 2003 #13 Rutgers, Air Force, #4 Georgetown, #4 Maryland 2016/17 Army / #2 Maryland, Boston U. Opponents have scored double digits against the Mids 25 times in games played on their home field over the last 14 seasons. Navy owned a 7-2 record in games played at home in 2016. It s the first time it has won seven home games since 2007 (7-1). Navy won six straight games at home in 2016 before dropping its Patriot League Tournament contest to Army. The Mids had not won six straight at home in a single season since 2005. Meanwhile, it was Navy s first six-game single-season home winning streak since 1987. Navy put together a 4-0 mark in Patriot League regularseason games played at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in 2016. It s the first time Navy has been undefeated in Patriot League play at home since 2010 when it was 2-0. It s the first time the Mids have been 4-0 in Patriot League action at home since 2004. OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION IN LEAGUE PLAY Despite averaging just 5.25 goals against its four nonconference opponents (7 vs. Jacksonville, 4 vs. Maryland, 7 vs. UMBC, 3 vs Penn), Navy has reached double digits in four of its six Patriot League games (10 - Boston U., 13 - Bucknell, 15 - Lafayette, 9 - Loyola, 10 - Lehigh, 5 - Holy Cross), averaging 10.33 goals in league play. It s the fourth-best average in the league behind Loyola (13.80 G/Gm), Bucknell (11.83) and Lehigh (11.17). Ten different players accounted for the Mids 15 goals against Lafayette, including Christian Daniel s careerhigh 5. Daniel is the first Navy freshman to notch 5 of more goals in a conference game (ECAC, 2000-03, or Patriot League, 2004-present) in program history. Junior Ryan Wade produced a 5-point game against the Leopards with a goal and 4 assists. It s the most assists by a Navy player since Greyson Torain dealt out 5 against Lehigh a year ago. Christian Daniel (3G, 2A), Jack Ray (4,1) and Greyson Torain (3,2) each produced 5-point games in the win over Bucknell. Ironically, the last time Navy had three players with 5 points apiece was the 2017 Bucknell game - Ryan Wade (0,5), Chris Hill (4,1) and Torain (4.1). The last time Navy had three players with hat tricks was April 16, 2016, when Patrick Keena, Casey Rees and Kevin Wendel scored three goals apiece en route to an 11-10 overtime win at Army. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE Since 2000, Navy s defense has been ranked among the top five nine times, including #1 three times (2000-05-06). The Mids have held 34 of their last 54 opponents to single-digit goals, including 8 of their 14 foes in 2017. This season, Navy has held six of its last eight opponents to single digits - 5 by UMBC, 8 by Boston U., 8 by Bucknell, 5 by Lafayette, 7 by Lehigh and 4 by Holy Cross. Since 2004, Navy owns a 106-30 mark (77.9) when holding opponents to nine or fewer goals - the Mids lost twice in 2005, four times in 06, once in 07, once in 08, twice in 09, twice in 10, three times in 11, three times in 12, three times in 13, four times in 14, twice in 15, once in 16 and twice in 17. Since 2004, Navy owns an amazing 74-3 record (96.1) when holding its opponents to six or fewer goals, including a 32-2 mark in the last eight seasons combined. The Mids were 3-0 in 2017, holding Dartmouth (6), Holy Cross (4) and Army (6) to six or under, while they are 3-0 this year (UMBC - 5, Lafayette - 5, Holy Cross - 4). Dating back to 2003, Navy HAD won 45 straight games when holding its foes to five or fewer goals. That streak, however, was snapped on March 26, 2011, by Colgate in a 5-4 win over the Mids. Navy has won 58 of its last 59 when achieving the feat, including a 3-0 mark in 2018. Navy s defense has given up double-figure goals 64 times in its last 183 games (2006-present), 66 times in the last 199 (2005-present) and 69 times in the last 217 games (2004-present) - Ohio State, Army, Johns Hopkins and Syracuse in 04; Georgetown and Virginia in 05; Army 06; Colgate, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins and North Carolina in 07; Georgetown, Johns Hopkins 2x and Colgate in 08; Colgate, Johns Hopkins and Duke in 09; North Carolina, Lafayette, Towson, Georgetown, Maryland and Army-PL Tourney in 10; North Carolina, Lehigh, Bucknell, Towson, Maryland, Army and Johns Hopkins in 11; Jacksonville in 12; Fairfield, Bucknell, Lafayette, Colgate, Lehigh, Army and Johns Hopkins in 13; Holy Cross, Towson, Lehigh 2x, Colgate, Army and Maryland in 2014; Johns Hopkins, Lehigh, Loyola and Army-PL Tournament in 2015; Johns Hopkins, Boston U., Army, Maryland, Yale and Brown in 16; Johns Hopkins, Maryland, Penn, Loyola, Colgate and Holy Cross-PL Tournament in 17; Jacksonville, Maryland and Loyola in 18. The Navy pair join Patriot League players Johnny Surdick and David Symmes of Army, Jack Wilson of Boston U., Will Sands of Bucknell, Andrew Pettit of Lehigh and Loyola s Foster Huggins and Pat Spencer on the list. Navy also has two players on the women s preseason watch list - Jenna Collins and Kelly Larkin. Torain is the team s second-leading scorer this season with 23 points on 13 goals and 10 assists, while Rees has amassed 12 points on 9 goals and 3 assists. In 2016, Rees etched his name in as one of the program s top-scoring midfielders. As the team s thirdleading scorer, he produced 37 points on a team-best 34 goals and 3 assists. The 37 points are tied as the sixth most by a midfielder in school history. The 34 goals are the most by a Navy player since 2004 when Joe Bossi pumped in 44 and Ian Dingman scored 36... meanwhile, the 34 goals are the third most in program history by a midfielder and the most since Brian Keith set the record of 41 in 1989. 26 of his 37 points were scored against Patriot League foes, while he scored just 11 points against nonconference opponents. Last season, Torain stepped up his game and was tied as the Mids leading scorer with 38 points alongside Ryan Wade (13-25=38). Torain recorded a team-high tying 23 goals and dealt out 15 assists. The last time a midfielder led Navy in scoring was in 2010 when Pat Moran totaled 38 points on 28 goals and 10 assists. Torain s 38 points are tied as the fourth most by mifielder in school history and the most since Moran s 38 in 2010. The 14 assists, meanwhile, are the most by a Navy midfielder since Andy Warner dealt out 21 in 2011. Torain is one of just 15 different midfielders in Navy history who have scored 30 or more points in a season. It has been accomplished 22 times with Graham Gill (2004-05), Jamie Slough (1992-93-94), Brian Keith (1989-90), Glen Miles (1984-86) and Mike Chanenchuk (1977-78-79) having done it multiple times over their careers. One of Torain s most incredible stats is 36 of his 53 career goals have been unassisted, including 18 of 23 a year ago and 6 of 13 this spring. He has done just that in his senior season. Varello has won 60.7 percent of the draws (108-178) he has taken this year and is ranked #3 in the Patriot League and #14 nationally. He is 12th on the Navy single-season faceoff wins list with 108 and became just the 10th different Navy player to reach 100 wins in a single season when he went 9 for 13 last weekend against Holy Cross. He is sixth on the Mids career faceoff wins list with 197, trailing fifth-place Chris Dingman (2000-03) by 61. Varello played a spectacular game against Loyola (3.17), tying the Navy single-game record and Navy- Marine Corps Memorial Stadium record by winning a career-high 21 faceoffs (of 28). He grabbed a careerbest 14 ground balls, the second most in program history to boot. To close out the day, he scored his second career goal and dealt out his first collegiate assist. He has been named Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Week three times this season (Maryland, Boston U., Bucknell). Fourteen different players scored goals for the Mids last season, including six who reached double digits. Midfielder Greyson Torain led the group with 23. Sixteen different players have posted goals for the Mids this season, led by senior attackman Jack Ray with 18. Freshman long-stick midfielder Jeff Durden was the latest Navy player to add his name to the list, scoring his first collegiate goal in the Loyola game (3.17). In the Mids 15-5 win over Lafayette (3.10), 10 players accounted for the 15 goals. Navy hasn t finished a season averaging double figures since 2007 when it averaged 11.00 goals. Freshman attackman Christian Daniel is Navy s leading scorer, posting 27 points on 17 goals and 10 assists. He has recorded at least one point in each of the Mids 10 contests, including assists in six games. Daniel made his collegiate debut in the opener against Jacksonville where he produced three points on a goal and a pair of assists. At Bucknell, he recorded his first career hat trick en route to a career-high 5 points (3G, 2A). Against Lafayette, he punched in a career-best 5 goals, becoming the first Navy freshman to score 5 or more goals in a conference game. The first Navy freshman attackman to start since Jack Ray in 2015, Daniel scored the Mids first goal of 2018, sticking his shot off an assist from Ray at the 9:29 mark in the opening quarter. Andrew McKenna and Nick Franchuk have both earned starting nods on defense this season in filling the void left after senior Steve Hincks was injured in the off-season. Frankchuk got the call against Jacksonville, while McKenna has started the last nine games. McKenna played a monster game against Bucknell where he recorded 4 caused turnovers and picked up a pair of ground balls. He also had 4 CT against Holy Cross. He is second on the team with 12 takeaways. Jeff Durden has stepped into the long-stick midfielder role, a tall task left vacant following the graduation of two-time All-American Matt Rees. Durden owns 23 ground balls and 5 caused turnovers to date. He was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week following his performance in the UMBC win (5GB, 1CT). Midfielder Logan Spilker and short-stick defensive midfielder Tim Griffin have also seen action. Spilker is a member of the Mids second midfield line and scored his first collegiate goal against UMBC, while Griffin has seen action in nine games.

ONE-GOAL DECISIONS Navy is 10-13 under head coach Rich Sowell in onegoal games. Navy has played 91 one-goal games (of 318) since the start of the 1996 season, winning 38 (41.8). Among those 91 games, 32 of them have gone into extra minutes with Navy winning 13 (40.6). Over the last 11 seasons (2008-present), 44 of the Mids 153 contests have been decided by one goal and Navy has produced wins in just 20 of those contests. Over the last nine seasons (2010-present), the Mids are 13-22 in one-goal affairs. In 2007, Navy played a program-record seven one-goal games, including five that were decided in overtime. Navy was 1-1 in 2012 in one-goal decisions, marking the first time since 1996 that it had not played at least three one-goal games. Navy finished 2015 with a 5-1 mark in one-goal contests. Navy is 93-46 in games that have not been televised since the start of 2004. SOWELL AMONG ELITE COMPANY Seventh-year Navy head coach Rick Sowell is just the third lacrosse coach overall in the sport s history and the only active coach to lead three different D-I programs to the NCAA Tournament. Sowell guided Dartmouth to the 2003 NCAA Tourney, Stony Brook to the 2010 NCAA Quarterfinals and Navy in 2016. Joining him on that list are Jack Emmer and Tony Seaman. Denver s Bill Tierney (RIT, Princeton, Denver) and Stony Brook s Jim Nagle (SUNY Oneonta, Colgate, Stony Brook) have also led three teams to the NCAA Championship, however, not all three were D-I programs. Carter, who last year moved to short-stick defensive midfield, saw action in the first four games before he was shut down for the season. Carter was a starter on defense in 15 of the 16 games during the Mids NCAA Tournament run in 2016. Not only did Carter return to the field against Jacksonville in the 2018 opener, he has started every game this season on close defense. Carter turned in career highs in both ground balls (4) and caused turnovers (2) in the win over UMBC. He is 14th on the Mids all-time caused turnovers list with 21 over his career and is third on the team with 10 takeaways in 2018. ALL IN THE FAMILY Over the years, Navy has seen several sets of brothers walk through the gates of the Academy. Some of those brothers attended the Academy at the same time, like the Looneys (Brendan 04, Steve 06, Billy 07) and the Lennons (Clipper 05, Bobby 09, Joe 10). Others, like Shane ( 09), Pat ( 14) and Brendan ( 16) Durkin, just missed playing alongside one another. Navy has one sets of brothers on this season s squad - Casey ( 18) and Spencer ( 21) Rees. Older brother, Matt, was a four-year letterwinner and two-time All- American long-stick midfielder for the Mids who graduated last May. The Rees father, Cliff ( 88) played basketball alongside David Robinson at Navy and earned a trip to the Elite 8 his Plebe year. Matt and Casey Rees are among just four sets of brothers who have earned All-America honors while playing for the Midshipmen. They join the Looney s (Steve and Billy), the Supko s (Len and Denny) and the MacLaughlin s (Don and Harry). Junior midfielder Ryan Wade and 2017 graduate Connor Wade, who played goalkeeper for the Mids, are the sons of two-year lacrosse letterwinner Rear Adm. John Wade ( 90) and nephew of three-year lacrosse letterwinner Tim Andrews ( 88). Senior defenseman Steve Hincks father, Steven ( 78), garnered Honorable Mention All-America honors as a defenseman for the Mids his senior year. As a freshman he was a member of the team that played in the program s first NCAA Championship Game and was an NCAA Semifinalist the following three seasons. Sophomore attackman Connor Young s father, Steve, is a 1984 graduate of the Naval Academy and was a member of the football and soccer teams. Freshman attackman Joe Byrne has a familiar last name around the Yard. That s because nearly everyone in his immediate family has graduated from the Naval Academy. His father, Bill, graduated from the Naval Academy in 1987 and later served as the Commandant of Midshipmen at the Naval Academy from 2013-15. A Rear Admiral in the Navy, he assumed command of Carrier Strike Group 15 in October of 2017. A three-year football letterwinner, he was co-captain of the 1986 team. One of just three quarterbacks in Navy history to throw for more than 1,000 yards in three different seasons, he holds the school record for career touchdown passes (29) and ranks second in school history in career completions (381), single-game passing yards (399) and career passing yards (4,582). He also holds the school record for single-game completions (37). His mother, Amy, graduated from the Naval Academy in 1987 and was a member of the cross country and track & field teams. His sister, Brigid, graduated from the Naval Academy in 2013 and was a member of the cross country and track & field teams. His brother, Michael, graduated from the Naval Academy in 2016 and was a member of the sprint football team. His sister, Martha, is a senior at the Naval Academy and was a member of the women s lacrosse team her first two years in Annapolis. Freshman midfielder George Martin s father, George, is a 1991 graduate of the Naval Academy who was a member of the golf team. 9

NAVY IN OVERTIME Navy owns a 19-24 all-time record in overtime contests, including a 10-14 mark in games at home. 28 of the 43 games have been decided in a single overtime period, however 9 have gone into double OT, 4 into three extra frames, 1 into four and 1 into six. In 2016, Navy played three overtime contests. The Mids dropped a 12-11 double-overtime heartbreaker to #5 Johns Hopkins on Feb. 9, 2016 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. It marked just the fifth time in the 90-game series history the game had been decided in extra frames and the first double-ot game between the two. Hopkins has won four of the five. Two weeks later (2.27), Navy dropped its first game in the series to Boston U., a double-ot matchup (10-9). The Mids bounced back with an 11-10 victory in overtime at Army (4.16). It was just the fourth time in series history the game went into extra minutes and the first since 1991. Perhaps no overtime game in school history gained more attention than when Andy Warner etched his name into Naval Academy lore by way of his overtime goal against 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins in 2010, snapping a 36-game losing streak to the Blue Jays. It was the Mids first win over Hopkins since 1974. Navy pulled out a 9-8 triple-overtime victory over Colgate in the 2009 Patriot League Tournament Semifinals. Midfielder Joe Lennon scored four goals for the Mids, including the last three. It marked the Mids first OT win in postseason action, as Navy previously lost NCAA Tournament decisions to Cortland State (2OT) in 1972 and Washington & Lee (3OT) in 1973. The Navy win also went down in the record books as the longest Patriot League Tournament contest. The Mids 8-7 loss against Cornell in 2008 marked the first time in program history that Navy had played an overtime game at a neutral site. NAVY JOINS FORCES WITH TEAM IMPACT The Navy lacrosse program has collaborated with Team IMPACT over the last three years, embracing sevenyear-old Grayson Osborne as its honorary captain. Team IMPACT s mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team. Established in 2011, Team IMPACT has matched over 900 children with collegiate teams at over 400 institutions in 45 states, improving the quality of life of hundreds of courageous children and touching the lives of over 25,000 student-athletes. For more information about the program, log on to www. goteamimpact.org(.) Here s a little more about Navy s favorite teammate - Grayson is in first grade. He lives with his parents Dan and Danielle, brother Holden, sister Annabelle, and their dog Fitz. Outside of school, Gray loves legos, all things Star Wars, outdoor activities and being read to - especially Curious George stories! Navy HEAD COACH RICK SOWELL On June 9, 2011, Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk introduced Rick Sowell, a man who has been involved with rebuilding programs at Georgetown, Dartmouth, St. John s and Stony Brook, as the Naval Academy s eighth head men s lacrosse coach in its 100-plus year storied history. In his first season at Navy, Sowell directed the Mids to a 6-6 record, including a 3-3 mark in Patriot League action. It marked Navy s first.500-win season since 2009. Navy capped off its season with an 8-2 rout over No. 6 Johns Hopkins. The six-goal victory marked the Mids largest margin of victory in the series since 1965 when Navy scored a 15-6 win over the Blue Jays. Meanwhile, the Class of 2012 became the first class since 1974 to graduate having twice beaten Hopkins. In 2014, the Mids earned their first trip back to the conference postseason tournament since 2010. Sowell guided Navy to a share of the Patriot League regularseason title in 2015 and the No. 1 seed in the league tournament. He was named the 2015 Patriot League Coach of the Year. Sowell garnered Patriot League Coach of the Year honors for a second straight year in 2016, led the Mids to the league s regular-season crown and the program s first NCAA Tournament bid since 2009. Additionally, Navy s opening-round win over Yale was the program s first NCAA Tournament win since 2008. Sowell compiled a 47-26 (.644) record in five seasons at Stony Brook and was named the America East Coach of the Year in each of the last two seasons as he guided the Seawolves to back-to-back America East regular-season titles (2010-11). In 2010, Sowell led Stony Brook to the program s first America East regular-season title, a school-record 13 wins, a No. 6 national ranking and a 9-7 victory over Denver in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Seawolves were just a game away from advancing to the school s first final four, losing in to Virginia in the quarterfinals, 10-9. Stony Brook had four players earn All-America honors, including Kevin Crowley who was the school s first First-Team All-American and was named the USILA Player of the Year. Sowell, who was an assistant coach for the gold-medal winning Team USA at the 2010 World Championships in England, led Stony Brook to a 9-6 record in 2009 and a final ranking of No. 20. It marked the school s first end-of-theseason national ranking. Stony Brook finished 4-1 in America East and stood as the regular season co-champions. Prior to Stony Brook, Sowell was tapped to head the rebirth of the St. John s lacrosse program that had been dormant since 1995. Sowell had just one season to recruit before the Red Storm took the field in 2005. Sowell was the head coach at Dartmouth from 1999-2003 and revived the Big Green program, taking the team from last place in the Ivy League to first. In his final season at Dartmouth in 2003, Sowell s squad posted an 11-3 record and won the Ivy League with a 5-1 record. It was Dartmouth s first Ivy League title since 1965 and just the third Ivy League title in school history. During the title run, the Big Green upset No. 2 Princeton marking the first time that Dartmouth had won at Princeton since 1958. Sowell was also named the NEILA Coach of the Year that season. Sowell s coaching career began at Washington College in Chestertown, Md., where he helped guide the Shoremen to the NCAA D-III national title game in 1986 and the semifinal round in 1987. Sowell was named the 1985 D-III National Midfielder of the Year and was also a two-time All-American. He helped lead Washington College to the D-III national championship game twice. His 45 goals and 14 assists earned him D-III First-Team All- America honors and an invitation to participate in the annual North-South All-Star Game. Sowell graduated from Washington College in 1986 with a bachelor s degree in history. 13
