Polglase and Cadet C. K. McIntosh (sp) Supplementary Report: Hawkesbury: Wednesday 24 January 2018 Race 7 RAAF Base Richmond Benchmark 65 Handicap 1800m: On Angels Wings Trainer Mr N. Mayfield-Smith advised that on return to the stable the gelding was found to have a cut in its mouth. He also advised that the gelding will now be spelled. RACE 1: Scarborough Maiden Handicap 1000m: Foxtrot Tango shifted in after beginning awkwardly. Key To Glory change of tactics to be ridden with cover: settled back. From its wide barrier, was shifted in to obtain cover. Mistress Mace on jumping was bumped by Foxtrot Tango, which shifted in. A postrace veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Sugarcone raced keenly in the early and middle stages. RACE 2: Supply Class 1 and Maiden Plate 2400m: Pirellone R. Hutchings advised that the gelding led comfortably, however, ran out abruptly near the 1700m, shifting considerably wider, and lost ground. He added that from this point on the gelding never travelled comfortably and failed to finish its race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Co-trainer Mr L. Price was advised that Pirellone would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. Stately Lord shortly after the start, was crowded for room between Chavin and Kadoma Man, both of which shifted ground. Chavin When questioned about the disappointing performance of the gelding, rider D. McDonogh stated that his mount travelled well until the 1000m where it came under pressure and, in his opinion, felt flat and was disappointing in its failure to finish its race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had lost its offfore plate and sustained a minor laceration to the heel. No other abnormalities were
20180127K GR 2 detected. Mr N. Dilmi, representing Trainer Mr J. Cummings, expressed disappointment in the performance of Chavin and added that the horse would be assessed on return to the stable at which point a decision on its immediate racing future would be made and this will be communicated to Stewards in the days subsequent, at which point they will determine whether any action should be taken against Chavin. Dad's Boy K. Mallyon advised that the gelding when under pressure leaving the 1000m dipped on a number of occasions and commenced to weaken noticeably. She added that as she had concerns that there may be something amiss with the gelding she eased it down in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of Dad's Boy, which was beaten 55.8 lengths, did not reveal any abnormality. Ms L. Singleton, representing Trainer Mr S. Singleton, was advised that Dad's Boy would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. Everly Girl From its wide barrier, was taken in and crossed behind runners to obtain cover. Raced keenly in the early stages. RACE 3: Borrowdale Class 2 Handicap 1400m: Misty Mountain Hop began awkwardly. Titaness held up rounding the home turn and in the straight, and did not obtain clear running until approaching the 200m where it was again disappointed for a run between Celtic Love and You Make Me Smile, both of which shifted ground, and was then able to obtain fully clear running near the 150m. You Make Me Smile C. Lever reported that the colt was inclined to race keenly and laid out in the early stages. He added that its manners in the early part of the race impacted on the horse's finishing effort in the straight. Enterprise Mount raced keenly in the middle stages. Duchess Royale after beginning awkwardly, ran out taking Celtic Love wider on the track. RACE 4: Sirius Maiden Plate 1300m: Waldo Waldorf knuckled on jumping. So Strong When questioned, K. Jennings advised that he agreed with the veterinary officer's opinion that the gelding was suitable to start after Unwise, which was drawn next to it, was fractious in the barriers. He added that So Strong was slow to begin and, despite being ridden along, did not muster speed. He stated that after his mount commenced to lose touch with the main body of the field, despite being pressured, he became concerned with the gelding's action behind and for this reason eased it down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed So Strong to have sustained a minor laceration to its off-hind pastern with no lameness detected. Trainer Mr J. O'Shea advised he will barrier trial the gelding prior to its next race start. Cappamore A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained abrasions to its eyes and to have blood present in its nostrils, which in the opinion of
20180127K GR 3 the veterinary officer, was the result of external trauma. Trainer Mr J. Coyle was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for Cappamore prior to it racing next. Guessing after being placed in the barriers, reared over and became extremely fractious, dislodging rider C. Lever, kicked out and made contact with Smart Enough, which was drawn to its outside. At this point Unwise became unsettled and kicked out. Guessing, Smart Enough and Unwise were withdrawn on veterinary advice at 2.55 p.m. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies placed on Guessing, Smart Enough and Unwise be refunded in full and, with regard to betting with bookmakers, all successful wagers made prior to 2.55 p.m. be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1 st Aeecee Tianhu less 66 cents win, 37 cents place; 2 nd Myprayer less 83 cents place; 3 rd Waldo Waldorf less 75 cents place. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off-hind leg. Trainer's representative Ms C. Hueston was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Guessing barrier trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again. In the circumstances, no action was taken against Unwise. Cappamore, which was drawn to the inside of Guessing, also underwent a veterinary examination when Stewards became aware that it was struck by that horse. As a result, Cappamore was withdrawn at 2.57 p.m. on veterinary advice. All successful wagers made between 2.55 p.m. and 2.57 p.m. be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1 st Aeecee Tianhu less 39 cents win, 22 cents place; 2 nd Myprayer less 46 cents place. 3 rd Waldo Waldorf less 42 cents place. C. Lever was subsequently stood down from his remaining engagements after being examined by the Club's doctor. Stewards permitted the following rider replacements: Race 5 Race 7 Race 8 J. Grisedale on Burbank Y. Ichikawa on Presscott J. Penza on Her Luminance Smart Enough A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Unwise A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained multiple abrasions to its near hind cannon which required treatment. Trainer's representative Mr N. Dilmi was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Unwise racing again. RACE 5: Shane Eades Transport 2YO Maiden Plate 1200m: Burbank Stewards considered an objection lodged by J. Grisedale, rider of 2 nd placegetter Burbank, against Make 'em Cry (K. Mallyon) being declared the winner alleging interference over the final 200m. On the evidence it was established that near the 200m Make 'em Cry, which was racing greenly and inclined to hang out, shifted out and in so doing hampered Burbank. A short distance later Make 'em Cry continued to lay out resulting in Burbank being hampered and obliged to alter course. Bearing in mind the 1¼ length margin, as Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had this incident not occurred Burbank would have finished in advance of Make 'em Cry,
20180127K GR 4 the objection was dismissed. At a subsequent inquiry, whilst Stewards acknowledged that Make 'em Cry was proving difficult to ride, K. Mallyon was advised that she must make every endeavour to ensure she keeps her mount on a straight path. Stable representative Ms M. Gissing was advised that a warning would be placed on the manners of Make 'em Cry. Charm Offensive raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Chief Command began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Make 'em Cry hung out rounding the home turn hampering Charm Offensive, which was carried wider onto Burbank. Make 'em Cry continued to hang out and near the 100m again shifted out abruptly, obliging its rider K. Mallyon to change the whip to her left hand. Spectre slow to begin and shortly afterwards, from its wide barrier, was steadied in behind runners to obtain cover. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Transact slow to begin. Vega One became fractious in the barriers, lunged forward and hit its head, was examined by the Club's veterinary officer and withdrawn at 3.35 p.m. acting on veterinary advice. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies placed on Vega One be refunded in full and, with regard to betting with bookmakers, all successful wagers made prior to 3.35 p.m. be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1 st Make 'em Cry less 10 cents win, 17 cents place; 2 nd Burbank less 8 cents place; 3 rd Chamfer less 17 cents place. Trainer Mr J. Thompson was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to Vega One racing again. Mr Thompson was also advised that a warning would be placed on Vega One. Fun Fact near the 100m had to alter course around the heels of Chamfer, which shifted in. RACE 6: Vice Chairman's Birthday Benchmark 68 Handicap 1200m: Figtree crowded on jumping between Nagging and Skyway, which shifted in. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. When questioned regarding his riding rounding the first turn, K. Latham advised that he was under no specific instructions as he had ridden the horse previously on a number of occasions. He added that Figtree, as reported, has had a wind operation and for this reason the intention is to not make too much use of the horse, if possible. He added that approaching the first turn when Babe In Boots was positioned to his outside as opposed to riding his mount along to improve his position and hold that horse in a three wide position, he elected to restrain as Figtree was only travelling moderately and ultimately Babe In Boots was able to shift in in advance of him. While noting his explanation, Stewards advised K. Latham that,
20180127K GR 5 where possible, he must ensure he rides his mount in a manner that leaves no room for query. Nagging knuckled shortly after the start. Brad The Lad slow to begin and from its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners to obtain cover. Gaytime Girl began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in near the 600m and was bumped heavily by Brad The Lad (J. Grisedale), which shifted out whilst attempting to improve into clear running. J. Grisedale was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Skyway Pulled hard in the early and middle stages. RACE 7: Dean Industrial Pty Limited Bencmark 69 Handicap 1500m: Oh So Unfair began awkwardly and lost ground (2L). Nacho Libre A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Nathula raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Ready Set Sing shortly after the start was crowded between Kasharn, which shifted out, and Nacho Libre, which was taken in after being crowded by Roya's Dream, which shifted in. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Zardabba after being held up rounding the home turn, had to be checked off the heels of Roya's Dream. Back To My Bay When questioned, R. Murray explained that Back To My Bay was able to lead comfortably after the start, however, the mare, which was racing with a nearside blinker on for the first occasion, raced keenly when in front and consequently set a faster tempo in the lead than she would have liked. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. RACE 8: Golden Grove Maiden Plate 1600m: Californiafirebird raced keenly in the early stages. Expiredtime near the 250m was inconvenienced between High Potential and Lady Mossman, which shifted out slightly. Kung Fu Master overraced in the early and middle stages. High Potential laid out approaching and rounding the home turn, and continued to lay out near the 150m obliging its rider to correct and straighten his mount. Angelify began awkwardly and, shortly afterwards, had to be checked off the heels of Lady Mossman, which shifted out after beginning awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
20180127K GR 6 Her Luminance The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable Stewards to view the patrol films relative to the start afforded to the filly. It was established that Her Luminance lunged forward and made contact with the front of the barriers as the start was effected. As a result of this, the nearside barrier then rebounded, which exacerbated the poor start that Her Luminance had made. Bearing in mind the finishing position of Her Luminance (placed 7 th beaten four lengths from 3 rd ), as Stewards were satisfied that this occurrence had not materially affected the filly's chances of running 1 st, 2 nd or 3 rd, correct weight was declared and Her Luminance was deemed to be a starter. The Club's starter, Mr D. Arnold, undertook to ensure that the barriers are serviced prior to the next race meeting. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Lady Mossman A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be 1/5 lame in its off foreleg.
