RooGolf Playing Field (Jr. Division) There are four green areas with a golf all. The root is to autonomously find eah green area, loate a golf all, and putt the all into a hole y using a speifi piee of wood (wooden putter). The enter hole, a in Figure 1, has the highest points. The loation of the four green areas will e unveiled at the ompetition site for junior teams. However, the exat loation of the green area No. 4 will e ompletely unknown to senior teams. The exat loation of the golf all on the green paper will also e unveiled to teams at the ompetition. At the World Championship on May 14, 201 at LTU, there will e unknown task(s) that require program hanges and/or additions. In addition, at the World Championship, teams must demonstrate the assemly of the root arm with the wooden putter without any adult s help. B. Rules 1. 4 standard golf alls with numers 1 ~ 4 marked y permanent marker will e used. Modifiation of the alls is not allowed. 2. 2 minutes are given per game round. 3. Starting loation and root orientation are unveiled efore the work-time. The starting loation will not e on green areas. It will not e etween green areas 1~3 and the holeslots. The front side of the root is defined as the diretion normal to the putter s all ontat surfae. 4. The root an putt only one all at a time. The all may only e touhed/hit/struk one and at the original loation on the green. 5. Teams annot touh the root during the round.. There is no Home Base. The round ontinues, and the Judge leaves the all where it lies either in the hole or on the tale. E. Playing Field Setup The playing field is a 30 x72 (atual size is aout 75 x 182 m) plasti folding tale that an e purhased at disount stores like Lowes. The reommended rand is LifeTime. The four orners of the tale are rounded. The radius of the orner irle is 4m ~ 7m. The thikness of the tale is aout 4.5m. The surfae is light in olor suh as almond or gray; however, the exat size, olor, rightness, and edge shape are unknown until the ompetition day. The tale is plaed on a dark olored floor. Figure 2 is a drawing of the playing field features with dimensions. Tale 1 desries the playing field values and whether the values are announed or not. F. Golf all Standard golf alls are used. The olor of the alls may e white, ut are unknown. G. Green area The size of the green area is 15m x 22m. The RGB value of the green olor is (0, 120, 0). The possile 7 all loations are marked with + signs. It will e soth-taped on four orners. As a part of the hallenge, teams must design their roots in order to not e aught y the uneven surfae due to the un-flat papers. MS Word and PDF files for letter size papers are availale on the we. Pine wood is reommended. Atual size is 1.9m x 3.8m x 28 m. The wooden putter an e slightly modified (for example: drilled to make holes) as long as the aove dimensions are not hanged. I. Hole-slots Hole-slots are made of white foam oards. The Instrutions to onstrut the slots in PDF are availale. Legs of the slots will e under the tale, whih means the tale has a slight inreasing slope toward the holes. The inside dimensions of eah hole-slot is 11x13 m. The wall thikness is 0.5 m. Root Speifiations (For oth Junior and Senior Division) 1. Your root may expand to putt the all. However, it still must fit within a ox with a 50 x 50 x 50 m ase when fully expanded. 2. Weight limitation: none 3. Any numer of sensors/sensor types (unless it is harmful to humans) 4. Any numer/type of motors/servo motors (multiplexor is OK to use) 5. Any material/root kit may e used to onstrut your root inluding tape, glue, olts and nuts, ruer ands, et.. A team ID tag on top of the root is required. K. Playing field onfiguration may e different for eah round. 2. Teams will e given 30 minutes after unknown fators are unveiled to work on their roots. During this time, no adult (inluding parents and oah) is allowed in the pit. 3. All teams must sumit their root to the impound area when the 30 minute work-time is expired. 4. During the impounding proess, judges will inspet roots. (size of the root and the putter) 5. After impounding, the judges will reset green No. 4 loation. (Senior division only). The Emee shall announe the following efore eah round: No adult is allowed in the pit area from now until all the roots are impounded. Student must stay in the pit area Copyright Roofest 201 4
until their root is impounded. The use of any ommuniations devies to remotely ontrol roots or ommuniate with players is prohiited in this ompetition arena. If anyone sees any suspiious ativities, please notify the nearest volunteer immediately. You are welome to take pitures or video, ut please make sure your flash is off. 7. Only two ontestants per team are allowed at the playing field during your run. 8. Teams will ompete in a pre-determined order deided y the site host. 9. Entered sores shall e displayed to teams to hek data input errors 10. Winners in eah age division will e deided y the average Final Sore of the 2 rounds. Tie reakers will e: (1) est Final Sore of two rounds, (2) rerun, if needed. At the World Championship on May 14, ompletion time may e used as another tie reaker, if neessary. Though every effort is made to e onsistent and preise in all of the dimensions of the playing field and parts, Roofest assumes some error of up to ±0.3 m. 2. If there are multiple playing fields at the ompetition sites, the Chief Game Judge will hek onsisteny etween the playing fields. 3. When the root is searhing for the hole-flag-panel using distane sensor(s), Judges should maintain at least 4 feet distane from the tale. 4. Final deisions are at the disretion of the Chief Game Judge. N. FAQs 1. What happens if the all is putted efore the 2 minutes end and enters into the hole after the 2 minutes end? It is valid. 2. What happens if a all hits another all? The game round ontinues and soring is done at the end of the round. 3. What happens if a all ounes out of the hole-slot after hitting another all in the slot? Game ontinues and soring is done at the end of the game. The slot has enough room for more than 4 alls. 4. The all was putted and landed on another green area. Can the team get 5 points? Yes 5.
