Budget Review and Approval (Todd Flunker) Copies of the financial report comparing current year to date activity to budget (as approved at the 5/8/17 meeting) and prior year were handed out. Expenses paid since March meeting were related to: Two clinics for the coaches All-Star Game donations of $150 each to Children s Hospitals of Wisconsin through the Game Pages for Trevor Shohoney, Brad Tobin and Coach Mike Beck. A donation of $250 was given to the Derrick Jones Memorial Fund. $150 to Monica Henry for Cheer Treat Bags. No deposits were made this month. Year to date there is a net profit of $4,279. This profit is before certain items yet to be paid such as Scholarships. Cash in the bank is $21,584.29 as of April 9, 2018. Big expenditures this year were helmets and $20,000 in uniforms the year before. We are close to budget on everything. Year to date profit was better than planned due to great results from Gold Cards and the Golf Outing. A motion to approve the financial report since the March meeting was made by Jack Takerian. It was seconded by Karen Hartje and approved without dissent.
Golf Outing Update (Jack Takerian) This is Gridiron s second biggest fundraiser. Lots of volunteers and golfers are needed. An email was sent out to participants in last year s golf event through Eventbrite. Some people have signed up to golf already. Items are needed for baskets and silent auction items. If you would like to contribute something, it would be greatly appreciated. The event is at Muskego Lakes again this year. It starts about 1:00 with dinner at around 6:00 to 6:30. It is done by about 8:00. Whether you golf or a volunteer, it is a great way to meet people. Chris Larson, a Freshman Coach, was able to secure a donation from his employer, Krones Group, in the amount $2,500. A huge thank you goes out to Coach Larson and Krones Group. There is a meeting for the Golf Event right after the Gridiron meeting tonight. Everyone is welcome to stay. Todd Flunker reminded everyone that we are now a 501(c)3 Not For Profit, so any donation is deductible. Senior Scholarship Update (Hilman Coppernal) We have received 2 scholarships so far. Senior parents, please tell your sons to get their essay in. Essays and forms are due by April 27, 2018. There are 2 - $500 and 2 - $250 scholarships. Gold Card Update (Karen Martens) Gold Card sales are the biggest fundraiser for Gridiron. Met with Todd from United Fundraising. The card is still in the works. We are adding Explorium Brewery. The cards can be picked up July 19 at the Camp Cookout. Each player is asked to sell 20 cards at $20 each. Karen is securing time, possibly the first weekend in August, at Pick N Save for players to sell their cards. More information to follow. A big thank you to Karen Martens for stepping up to coordinate Gold Card Sales. Other Events/Coordinator Updates (Chris Wimmer) Banners are being coordinated by Dennis Wimmer. If anyone would like to shadow him, this is his last year to coordinate it.
Tammy Jessup, Beth Devinger and Chris Wimmer are coordinating the JV/Varsity Banquet. Tammy said that the banquet is in November and that there isn t anything to report yet. Gina Palasz is coordinating the Freshmen Banquet. She has secured many helpers, which is good! Jenny Shohoney is the Camp Cookout again this year. We are very happy to have her back. Jenny Stauber is the Poms liaison and Monica Henry is the Cheer liaison again this year. Jenny Stauber, Heidi Miller and Nicole Slawson are coordinating Clothing. Tentatively, Scott Smith has agreed to coordinate the Charity Night. This entails having the incoming seniors pick a charity, coordinating with that charity and creating a t-shirt to sell. Mary Young is coordinating the Display Board. A big thank you to Mary for adding a memorial for Derrick Jones to the Display Board. Photos coordinators this year are CHeryl Hennig, Karen Hartje and Trecia Burkett. Grade Level Liaisons/Calendar Raffle Coordinators are Heidi Baudry for Varsity, Tammy Jessup for JV and Jen Trinko for Freshmen. We are still looking for a coordinator for Homecoming. It is an easy one and done event. Not too my much to do but order something fun for the student section. Parent Night coordinator is Madeline Kleczka. The date of Parent Night hasn t been established yet. Pasta Night Coordinator is Sandy Nichols. Sandy said that this is her last year to coordinate, so if someone would like to shadow her, that would be great. She orders from Chili s and also coordinates subs from Cousins when needed. Senior Night Coordinators are Karen Martens and Wendy Cozzens. So far, there hasn t been much to do. Senior Poster coordinators are Tammy Jessup and Melanie Takerian. Tammy said that the poster has all the seniors in it with a theme that the seniors pick. Last year was a police/fire theme. Team Bonding Coordinator again this year is Tammy Jessup. Tammy said that the team bonding will be at Root River again this year for beach volleyball. Coach Brown picks the teams with players of all grade levels on each team. Pizza and drinks are served. The players have a lot of fun. Heidi Baudry is the Website/Facebook/Twitter coordinator. Heidi said that a Twitter account was set up many years ago, however, no one knows tha passwords or anything. She ll try setting on up at some point. As far as Facebook and the website is concerned, please let her know if you know of something that
you want posted. She does not know everything that is going on and would love help finding information to post. Paul Hartje is the new Yard Signs coordinator. There is nothing to report yet. Miscellaneous (Chris Wimmer) The bylaws have been revised to include a new one year position. This will be reviewed and approved at the May meeting. The Homecoming game has been moved to September 21 (it was October 5th), so, now, Senior Night can be on October 5th, by itself. We have 3 other home games August 24th, August 31st and September 14th. A decision needs to be made about which of these nights will be Charity Night and which will be Parent Night. Charity Night is usually the first home game of the year, so will be August 24th. Coach Brown will think about which of the other two nights will be Parent Night. Coach will let us know next meeting. Football Update ( Coach Brown ) The first contact day has been switched from Thursday, June 14th to Wednesday, June 13th because more baseball players will be able to make it since they do not have games on Wednesdays. There is one change to the JV game schedule. Originally the game that would normally be on Labor Day would be moved to the next day (Tuesday), however, that left little time for the JV players practice that week. We are paying Park that week, so we decided with Park that the game would be moved to the Saturday, September 1st at 9:00 a.m. Ben Hempel has set the date for the 7 on 7 Alumni Tournament. This year it will be the evening of Friday, July 6th under the lights of Jerry Marsh Field. A return to Friday Night Lights for our alumni! Matt Fox and Dave Bartels took over Franklin Youth Football a few years ago. The high school coaches and FYF coaches now meet once a month for a coaches clinic. If any of the players are interested in going to a football camp, please have them see Coach Brown. He will give them recommendations for camps. The calendar is still a work in progress, but is close to done. We are working on getting it on the website. The coaches and players have decided to retire Derrick Jones jerseys for this year. Both of his jerseys (home and away) have been given to his family and they had them displayed at his funeral.
Coach thanked all the parents for their support and specifically for funding the coaches clinics that he and the other coaches went to. They always bring back great strategies for improving. Coach Brown s son was interviewed by a LaCrosse news person about being an Assistant Coach and the Hypeman for the UW LaCrosse football team. He thanked Gridiron for promoting the interview on Facebook. Weight room is has been going okay. Could be better. When asked if he is adding another time for incoming Freshmen to lift, Coach said starting next week he ll probably add Wednesday. He ll let the players know. We might be going to Homestead on the Thursday of Camp. If we go, only JV and Varsity will go (Freshmen and 8th will stay behind) and the players would come back for the cookout. Coach will let us know when he knows more. The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 pm. Next Meeting is Monday, May 7, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Library.
