Background Information Owned & maintained by Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Old Dominion Drive is classified as an principal arterial Length of roadway from N. Out of scope: Old Dominion Drive 37 th Street N to N. Edison Difficult area due to the terrain. Alternate walking connectivity can be achieved by using 37 th Street Old Dominion Drive: 37 th Street N to N. Edison St.

Out of Scope: George Mason Dr. to 37 th Street N Was design with the culvert project. Currently obtaining funds.

Sidewalk Standards Sidewalk standards are per the County Board approved Master Transportation Plan, if necessary, waivers will be filed with VDOT. 5 sidewalk with 2 to 4 utility strip 4 minimum utility strip for tree planting 2.5 minimum utility strip for driveway entrances Utility strips are used also for street lights, road signage, water meters, fire hydrants, etc. 6 sidewalk minimum, County standard, when sidewalk is located at the back of the curb. Sidewalk at back of curbs are only used when necessary

Stormwater The project impervious surface will be approximately 0.68 acres DES Watershed Planner continue to look for opportunities Possible Constraints: for bio-retention and bio-swales: Residents requests for additional street trees Protection of existing trees Narrow rights-of-way in many locations Need to create a sidewalk that can support both pedestrian and bike traffic Utility conflicts and slopes Watershed retrofit projects will treat 5 acres of impervious surface. These include: Williamsburg Blvd (Old Dominion to 35th St N) = 1.07 acres Williamsburg Blvd (Harrison to Edison N) = 1.67 acres Kensington St. (at 33rd) = 0.77 acres 32nd St N (at Kensington St.) = 0.42 acres John Marshall Drive = 1.07 acres

Railroad Jewell Station Old Dominion Drive and Rock Springs Road

Marker The marker previously located at the intersection of Old Dominion Drive and Rock Spring Road is in storage awaiting to be rehabilitated. It will be installed somewhere along Old Dominion Drive near Rock Springs Road once the project has been completed. Rock Springs Civic Association has researched the background of the marker.
