PRESIDENT S LETTER We had our Club Night Awards for our Club with Top Honour the Bruce McLaren trophy going to Nick Cassidy for his efforts winning the Japanese F3 Series. The Denny Hulme trophy going to Paul Manuell for winning the V8 Ute Series. The days are getting longer and we have now started our Summer Race Series. The first race meeting on 3rd September at Hampton Downs produced just on 100 competitors over six classes. The second year of our production class for saloon cars had a maximum grid of 45 cars. I don t know of any other time our Club Meetings that a class has ever produced a full grid. We are seeing an upswing of the more affordable classes of motorsport such as the 2K Cup and Production Series racing and the good thing is a lot of cars can compete in both series if they choose. This cuts the cost of racing up and down the country looking for Meetings where are they can keep the travel and accommodation costs down. With our 1 day Meeting again this helps budgets and we have held the entry cost the same as last year. Although we have had to absorb some of the costs. Our next Club Race Meeting is Saturday 15 October at Pukekohe. Entry is free at the gate with your current membership card. Don t forget to mark your calendars for Saturday 19 November for our second induction to Auckland Car Club Roll of Honour. This is open to all current and past members. 20 more inductee will be honoured. Doors open at 1:00pm for a 1:30pm start. Light refreshments with a cash bar available, be early to secure you a seat and a carpark!! Till next time Cheers, Ted Ted Jarvis Auckland Car Club President 2015/16 SUMMER SERIES PRIZE GIVING Paul Manuell receiving the Denny Hulme trophy for achievement Ian Barlow receiving the Horace Robinson trophy for the Best Club Member for the year Martyn Wells receiving the John Windelburn trophy for the President s choice for most deserving volunteer for the year

RECORD GRID FOR SEASON OPENER The Club's opening round at Hampton Downs saw a record 97 entries across six classes, and what a busy day it was for officials and competitors alike. First time drivers, and first time competitors to the series were given a warm if not sometimes 'hurried' welcome as scrutinisers, marshals, safety crews and fellow racers showed them the ropes. RACE 4-D CUP RAISING AWARENESS FOR BREAST CANCER RESEARCH Race 4-D Cup is a 10 woman team founded by Auckland Car Club member and breast cancer survivor Bronwynne Leech. From team manager through to drivers, mechanics and pit crew, it's girl power to the max. The team, formed in 2015, regularly competes across the North Island, and has been a feature of off-track events such as Speedshow. Their cause is gathering momentum, attracting support from a host of kind-hearted sponsors. The girls have friendly competition in the same pit from Brownynne's husband Andrew Leech and his all-male team, many of them Race 4-D Cup team member's partners. Race 4-D Cup completed all three rounds of the 2016 Mahindra North Island Endurance Series, where the bright pink livery on the Peugeot 205 attracted the attention of TV One's Seven Sharp Team. "I took up motor racing as a challenge as part of my recovery from breast cancer," says Brownwynne. "I think talking on camera has been the scariest part of it so far!" The Team is now planning its campaign for the 2017 Season. While on track Team members are back to pursuing their individual summer race programmes at grassroots level - six of the Team are current license holders competing in Classic Trial, Trofeo Series, ERC Series and Auckland Car Club s Production Class. Race 4-D Cup is holding a Lunchtime Pink Track Walk at the Auckland Car Club Round 2, at Pukekohe on Saturday 15 October (gold coin donation for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation). "We hope everyone will come out to support research into this most vile of diseases," says Bronwynne.
