Please direct enquiries to Steve Morris clubrooms@aucklandcarclub.or.nz ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The Club s annual general meeting was held on Thursday 14 July 2016. As the number of nominations did not exceed the number of positions available, all candidates were acclaimed. As a result, the Club s 2016/17 Executive Committee consists of: President Ted Jarvis Vice-President Mark Sheehan Secretary/Treasurer Craig Holmes Vice-President Brett Davy Club Captain Aaron Clarke Members: Ross Henderson Steve Morris Natalie Waite Martyn Wells Mike Dias Savio Steves Gavin Ivers A minor change to the Club s rules was approved at the meeting. The eligibility age for Senior Membership will be raised from 60 to 65 years. Once this change has been accepted by the Registrar of Incorporated Societies, a copy of the rules will be placed on the Club s web site.

PRESIDENT S LETTER We had our AGM and I welcome Brett Davy as one of our Vice Presidents. Also, all of our existing Executive Members are on board for another Term together with New Executive Members being Gavin Ivers and Savio Steves. Prize giving is being delayed until Saturday 27th September due to not receiving all the trophies back in time. It will be held on the Saturday night at Auckland Car Club rooms, downstairs at 44 Stoddard Road. If you are a prize winner, please attend with your supporters; it is free to come to and light refreshments are being served together with a cash bar - all Members and friends welcome. Talking of upcoming events: Put in your calendar the 1st Race Meeting is only a month away on 3rd September at Hampton Downs. All out classes will be running, help us by entering early. 19th November at 1:00pm opening for a 1:30pm start, we are having our second induction of 20 people to the Roll of Honour. If you know someone that you can suggest, please contact myself. This event is for current or past Members, all are welcome. A light supper will be served and a cash bar, also, we will have a Special Guest Something that was highlighted to me the other day was our Membership is increasing every year. We have over 500 Members who hold competition licences and we are the only Club with that sort of ratio. The Club is concerned that the Technical Department in Motorsport in Wellington is being restructured and the Technical Manager s position has been disestablished. While we have been assured Motorsport is putting the appropriate resources put in place to ensure that there are no changes to the technical services provided, we are concerned and will wait to see how this works out. Kind regards, Ted President Auckland Car Club CHRIS AMON 1943-2016 New Zealand lost one of its finest motor racing drivers with the death of Chris Amon. Along with Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme, Amon formed a three-pronged New Zealand challenge on the tracks of Europe and America. The highlight of Amon's success in sports car racing came with the 1966 win at the Le Mans 24-hour race in a Ford GT40 Mark II with McLaren as his partner. Amon never won a championship F1 grand prix, but did win eight non-championship GPs. His other major wins included the Silverstone International Trophy, the 1000km Monza, the Daytona 24 Hours, the Tasman Series. Amon started 96 F1 races, achieving five poles, led 183 laps in seven races, reached the podium 11 times and scored a total of 83 championship points. Amon was inducted into the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame in 1995.

DAVE AND SUSIE S BIG ADVENTURE Dave and Susie s Big Adventure tells the story of a restless middle aged couple who, with time on their hands and a sense of daring, decide to take on the ultimate road-trip: to drive from New Zealand to England in their HiLux. Follow their progress as they make their way across the Australian outback, up the Malaysian peninsular and then through Laos to the China border. Enjoy the ride along the Silk Road to Kazakhstan and into Russia and then into Europe as they hurdle the obstacles placed in their way by bureaucrats, officious border guards and dodgy policemen. Experience atrocious roads, mountain passes and extremes of temperature through the west of China and the old USSR. If you are planning such a trip for yourself or just want to come along for the ride, this is the book for you. Part 2 of Dave and Susie s Big Adventure tells the story of our intrepid travellers return to New Zealand after their daring drive to England via Australia, South East Asia, China, Kazakhstan, Russia and the EU. Not content merely to ship their Hi Lux Surf home, they elect instead to ship it to Buenos Aires to begin their next adventure that takes them to Tierra del Fuego, Patagonia and Chile to connect with the Pan American Highway. This famous road takes them all the way to the USA and on to Canada and Alaska where they drive up the Dalton Highway to Deadhorse and the Arctic Ocean. Finally, they drive south to California to ship home to New Zealand, completing their around-the-world adventure. Join them on this exciting, sometimes dangerous drive through some of the most interesting and beautiful countryside on earth. Fellow Fiat 124 Spider and Coupe owners 2016 marks the 50 th Anniversary of the original Fiat 124 Sport Spider, which debuted at the November 1966 Turin Auto Show, in Italy. 2016 also heralds the New Zealand market launch of the new Fiat 124 Spider, which debuted at the November 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, in the United States. Fiat 124 Spider enthusiasts around the world are commemorating the Anniversary and various territory launches with numerous static displays and road runs. The collective celebration represents a unique opportunity for Kiwi owners to also mark the occasion here in New Zealand. Fiat 124 Spider 50⁰ Anniversario is a national golden anniversary convention of Fiat 124 Spider and Spider 2000 owners, to be held in Christchurch, November 11-13 th, 2016, a Canterbury provincial holiday (Show Week) that is precisely fifty years after the November 1966 Salon debut of our favoured bella machina. In a recent development, Fiat 124 enthusiasts have requested that their sister Fiat 124 Coupes also be able to participate in the convention. It is now intended that the convention celebrations will be the most Southern gathering of Fiat 124 Spiders and Coupes in the world and certainly the largest ever gathered together in New Zealand. INVITATION TO REGISTER YOUR INTEREST As a Fiat 124 Sport Spider, Spider 2000 or Fiat 124 Sport Coupe owner, you are invited to register your interest in this event (to date, some twenty-five Spiders and seven Coupes have registered interest and numbers are growing). All variants of the Fiat 124 Sport Spider, Spider 2000 or Fiat 124 Sport Coupe are invited to attend, no matter the series, rating, spec level, left or right hand drive: whether your example be Concours, mobile restoration, survivor, daily driver, in race trim or Abarth, the event is to celebrate these outstanding Italian roadsters and Coupes in all of their manifestations, not their individual condition. Don t miss your chance to meet with like-minded fiatista who share your appreciation of these classic Pininfarina/Fiat designs and your passion for the open road Italian style. You can register now with a brief expression of interest and we ll forward the latest update of convention news, plans and related matters. If you know of other Fiat 124 Sport Spider, Spider 2000 or Fiat 124 Sport Coupe owners who might appreciate the chance to register their interest in this event, please forward this invitation on be sure to CC in the e-mail address below, so we can follow-up at a later date. All other comments and enquiries are very welcome. We look forward to hearing from you.
