Hockey Nova Scotia s High Performance 1 Seminar 2015 National Coaching Certification Program High Performance I Seminar July 20th -25th, 2015 Antigonish, Nova Scotia St. Francis Xavier University The NCCP High Performance I (formerly Advanced I) Seminar will be held from July 20th- 25th 2015 in Antigonish, Nova Scotia on the campus of St. Francis Xavier University. In an effort to continue to provide a wider range of professional development for interested and qualified coaches, this seminar will be combining coaching education and an athlete development camp. The coaching seminar will be the NCCP High Performance I Program where professional speakers will deliver sessions featuring topics such as special teams, yearly plan, offensive/defensive individual tactics, offensive/defensive team play systems, goaltending and much more. You will have the opportunity to learn from some of the top coaches and hockey minds in Atlantic Canada, as well as other presenters from around the country. The theory of coaching will be merged with the on ice application of coaching. In addition to classroom lectures and tasks, the selected coaches will plan and run on-ice sessions and participate on the bench in game situations for a portion of the Hockey Nova Scotia Male Under 14 and Male Under 15 Summer Camps. It is the commitment of the Atlantic Branches to work with Provincial Branch Summer Camps or other forms of programming to provide an exceptional professional development opportunity.

High Performance I Background and Eligibility Criteria The NCCP High Performance I Seminar is held every two to three years in Atlantic Canada and is targeted at those coaches who have significant coaching experience, and want to pursue higher levels of coaching competitive athletes. Those coaches applying for NCCP High Performance I Certification through this Seminar must meet the following criteria: Must be currently coaching at the Bantam competitive level or higher Coaches of Male athletes - must have a minimum three (3) years coaching experience at the Peewee/Bantam level or higher Coaches of Female athletes must have a minimum three (3) years coaching experience at the Midget level or higher. Special situations will warrant consideration. To complete the field evaluation following the seminar, coaches must meet the following criteria: For coaches of male athletes you must be coaching at the Bantam competitive Level or higher in the upcoming season For coaches of female athletes, you must be coaching at the Bantam level or higher in the 2015-2016 season As part of the selection process a maximum of 40 candidates will be accepted. Beyond experience and current coaching situation the selection process will also consider: Previous NCCP coach education and/or certification A history of ethical coaching and the development of athletes Work within the Hockey Canada structure in other leadership roles instructor, mentor, facilitator etc. All candidates applying for NCCP High Performance I will be subject to selection by the four Provincial Branches Management Committee. Not all applicants will necessarily qualify for the NCCP High Performance I Certification.

Potential NCCP High Performance I Program Topics Yearly Training Planning Designing and Managing a Hockey Program Ethical Coaching Managing Outside influences billets, travel, parents, volunteers etc. Goaltending Special Team Powerplay and Penalty Kill Bench Management - Game Analysis and Managing the Game Environment Offensive Team Play Defensive Team Play Individual and Group Tactics Practice Design and Delivery Nutrition including creating a drug free environment Physical preparation of athletes Mental Preparation Preparing yourself and your players Player Evaluation Use of Video Skill Analysis Recruitment of Athletes Decision Training Group Work Modules Statistical Analysis Player Evaluation Practice Design and Preparation Game Analysis Application Process Complete the enclosed application form and submit with the requested documentation to Brad Taylor at btaylor@hcokeynovascotia.ca by May 1 st, 2015. Program Costs 2015 National Coaching Certification Program High Performance I o NCCP High Performance I Level Delegate $1,000.00 + HST= $1,150.00 (Includes all materials, attendance, presentations, and exam marking)

Meals & Accommodations Package o Upon request, information will be made available from St. Francis Xavier University and Hockey Nova Scotia An additional cost of $200.00 will be charged for field evaluation once exams have been passed Observer Status - for those already certified at the HP 1 (formerly Advanced 1 level) $400.00+ HST = $460 (includes all presentations, attendance) Checklist for Seminar Application and Payment of Fees APPLICATION PROCESS A detailed Coaching/Education Resume and Letter of Reference from your Minor Hockey Association or Club Team must accompany the attached application form Deadline for application is May 1 st, 2015 Full seminar registration fee of $1,000. 00 +HST is due by application deadline May 1 st, 2015 Should you not be successful in selection, your payment will be returned MEAL AND ACCOMMODATION PACKAGE Delegates are on their own, however upon request assistance will be provided for meal and accommodation options. CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY Upon acceptance into the 2015 High Performance I Program, your payment will be processed. Full refunds will be provided up until June 1 st, 2015. A cancellation fee of $100 will apply. Any cancellation following June 1st, 2015 will be subject to a $150.00 cancellation fee. NOTICE The High Performance I Coaching Seminar is held every three (2-3) years in Atlantic Canada. After the 2015 summer seminar, the next opportunity to attend the High Performance I seminar in Atlantic Canada will be the summer of 2017 in Newfoundland & Labrador, NL.
