Student Organization & Greek Life Homecoming 2013 Spirit Contest Packet Due By Friday, September 20, 2013 at 4:00 P.M. to Kimmel Leadership Center front desk in the Morris University Center Hello Student Organizations & Greek Life! The Homecoming Planning Committee is proud to invite you to participate in this year s Homecoming 2013 spirit contest! The spirit competition is a way for Student Organizations and Greek Life to get involved in Homecoming activities, get campus-wide recognition, win awesome CASH prizes, and show your Cougar Spirit! This year s contest will have two categories: Student Organizations and Greek Life organizations. The organization with the most points in each category will win a $300 cash prize and be presented a Spirit Trophy at halftime during the SIUE Men s Soccer game on Saturday, October 5 th at Korte Stadium. The runners-up in each category will win a $200 cash prize. This packet contains a list of the competition s events and requirements. All events are optional, but in order to win the overall competition, your group is encouraged to participate in every Homecoming event! All registration forms MUST be returned to the Kimmel Leadership Center front desk no later than Friday, September 20 th by 4:00 pm. Homecoming Spirit Contest Rules Overall Rules: 1. A complete roster of your organization s membership must be turned in with the completed Homecoming Spirit Contest application. An organization is not registered for Homecoming Spirit Contest events unless a roster has been received. 2. Only persons appearing on your organization s roster will count towards attendance. 3. No one may check in more than one person for Homecoming Spirit Contest Attendance Points. 4. Individuals may be asked for proof of identification. 5. Two prizes will be awarded to two different organizations, one Greek Life organization that is affiliated with CPC, IFC, or NPHC and one registered student organization that is in good standing with the Kimmel Leadership Center. Homecoming King and Queen Contest 1. Organizations may sponsor multiple candidates, however 30 points will be the maximum allocated. 2. The Homecoming Royalty Application is due Tuesday, September 24t h by 4:00 PM in the Kimmel Leadership Center. Chalking Contest 1. Murals will be judged based on the use on the Homecoming 2013 theme Lights, Camera, Cougars! originality, creativity and school spirit. Please incorporate the name of your organization in your mural. 2. Organizations must provide/use their own supplies to chalk. 3. Chalking must be completed by Tuesday, October 2 nd at 3:00pm. 4. Your mural must not be designed or created by a professional company. 5. Your mural must be an original work and may not copy another mural. 6. Any inappropriate or indecent themes, artwork, language, etc included in chalking will result in the disqualification of the group from the spirit contest. 7. Judging will take place at 1:00 pm on Monday, September 30, 2013. 8. Chalking is only allowed in designated space and may not exceed marked dimensions. Comedy Show 1. Points will be assigned on the basis of the percentage of your total membership in attendance at the Tuesday, October 1 st Comedy Show at 7:00 pm. 2. Only members included on the provided roster will count towards the percentage and up to 30 points will be awarded. Members of your organization must check in upon arrival at the event with student ID. 3. No one may check in more than one person Golf-Cart Parade 1. Each organization will be assigned a golf cart for the parade. Organizations will be given one (1) hour to decorate their golf cart, starting at 11:00AM, Tuesday, October 1 st. 2. Organizations may NOT paint, glue, double-stick tape, apply decals or other permanent attachments to the golf cart. Decorations may be attached with string, wire, masking tape, or other easily removable fasteners that will not damage the golf cart. 3. The name of the organization and the Homecoming theme ( Lights, Camera, Cougars! ) should be displayed somewhere on the golf cart. 4. Organizations may be asked to have one or more Homecoming Royalty candidates ride in their golf cart. 5. The driver must be a member and on the roster of the sponsoring organization.

6. Organizations are responsible for all costs associated with any stains or damages done to golf carts. 7. Organizations will be docked points for inappropriate use of carts and failure to follow instructions during parade. Recliner Races 1. Teams must provide their own recliner/chair. 2. Teams must consist of three (3) members and one (1) alternate. 3. One (1) team member must be in the recliner, in a reclined position at all times. 4. Recliners must be mounted on at least two (2) wheels. 5. Team member sitting in recliner must wear a helmet. Cougar Karaoke 1. Organizations may sponsor one (1) participant for the Karaoke Contest. 2. The sponsored participant must appear on the organization s roster. 3. Organizations are allowed one (1) alternate. 4. First round will consist of a song of the participant s choice 5. The top four (4) individuals will proceed to the final round. 6. Final round will consist of a song drawn from a hat by the judges. 7. Judging will be based on talent, showmanship, and knowledge of the words to the songs. 8. Winner will be announced immediately following final round. 9. Bonfire 1. Points will be assigned on the basis of the percentage of your total membership in attendance at the Bonfire. 2. Only members included on the provided roster will count towards the percentage and up to 30 points will be awarded. Members of your organization must check in upon arrival at the event with student ID. 3. No one may check in more than one person. Tailgate 1. Points will be assigned on the basis of the percentage of your total membership in attendance at the Dance. 2. Only members included on the provided roster will count towards the percentage and up to 30 points will be awarded. Members of your organization must check in upon arrival at the event with student ID. 3. No one may check in more than one person. 4. Chili Cook-Off 1. Official entries must be completed with Campus Recreation. 2. Criteria, judging, and awards will be taken from the official Chili Cook-Off results provided by Campus Recreation and Club Sports.

HOMECOMING 2013 Official Team Application To participate in any aspect of the Homecoming 2013 Student Organization Spirit Contest, each player must be added on the roster sheet. PLEASE be aware that no players will be added to a team roster after this form is submitted. There will be no substitutions or exceptions.
