All enrollment forms must be turned in to the Extension Office by April 15 th. Anyone wishing to join after April 15 th may take a project but will not be allowed to compete in county or state shows, contests, or events or participate in Junior Fair. Members may participate in club meetings and activities, community service events, and county clinics. Projects may not be changed or added after May 1 st. The current County 4-H Activity fee is $25 per member ($50 maximum per family, 1 st year members and Cloverbuds free) to enroll in Ashtabula County 4-H. This fee is used to off-set programming costs as well as support the hiring of a Summer Student Assistant and support volunteer and youth training programs and requirements. Members may only enroll in dual clubs when taking different projects in both clubs. 4-H activity fees are only paid once in the primary club. Requirements: 1. All clubs establish their own schedule based on the needs of their club. Members must attend at least 50% of local club meetings to be eligible to participate in county, regional, and state events, including Ashtabula Junior Fair. Committees and individual clubs have the right to increase the required meeting attendance but may not have less. 2. All members have to have a signed Code of Conduct on file. This can be found on the reverse side of the Enrollment Form. Members are expected to adhere to the 4-H Code of Conduct at all 4-H and Junior Fair events and when representing 4-H. 3. Members must meet all 4-H requirements to be eligible for end of the year awards. Ashtabula County OSU Extension is Seeking a Student Summer Assistant to help with 4-H Summer and Junior Fair programming. Applicants must have completed one year of college and have evidence of successful leadership experience in 4-H, school and/or community organizations. Applications are due April 15, 2015. 4-H Cloverbud News Cloverbud Activity Ideas You can find lots of great ideas about activities to do with your youngest 4-Hers at: Cloverbud Fun Days July 7-9 http://www.ohio4h.org/volunteers/cloverbud-leaders Cloverbud Judging Cloverbud posters will be reviewed on Monday, August 10 in the 4-H Expo Building at the fairgrounds from 5-6:30 p.m. This is a fun experience that gives Cloverbuds a chance to talk to one of our nice volunteers about year in 4-H. They can bring a poster with drawings, objects and pictures of their favorite 4-H activities. All Cloverbuds participating will receive a Cloverbud ribbon and fair pass. ALL Cloverbuds are invited to participate in the Stick Horse Show Sunday, August 16 at 3:00 p.m. in the Horse Arena as well as activities on Kid s Day! Once again there will be a 3 day summertime activity for 4-Hers ages 5-8. Camp will be held from 9 am - noon daily. The $35 camper fee covers snacks, crafts everything they did this and insurance. Activities will include nature study, creative arts, songs, stories, games and much more! Camp is limited to 40 youth so sign up now! Preregistration is necessary to insure adequate supplies and supervision for your children. 2015 Fair Pen Reservations All animals going to the 2015 fair need to have a Pen Reservation. All Advisors must hand in complete Pen Reservations by JULY 1! All market goats & lambs must be de-horned and officially identified for Scrapie by tagging day on Saturday, May 2, 2015 If there is no Scrapie tag, you must present proof of Scrapie ID before a Pen Reservation will be accepted. 169th Ashtabula County Fair Junior Fair Theme: Around the World with Junior Fair Tuesday, August 11 Sunday, August 16, 2015 All Carcass Entry, County Pride, Breeder s Own and Club Community Project forms are due July 1! Carcass Projects FORMS ARE DUE JULY 1 To drop off your carcass animal you will need to have a completed and signed project book, proof of Skillathon completion, cut list, kill charge and completed Drug Use Notification Form. Forms are available online and at OSU Extension and updated project requirements are included in the 2015 MAC Guidelines. Please review the fairbook for important Junior Fair show Schedule changes! Scheduling changes have been made to the following project areas: Saddle Horse, Mini-Horse, Swine, Poultry, and Rabbits. County Fair News 7 Royal Court Applications Forms are available at the Extension Office and are due by 4:30 on July 1st. Interviews will be on Friday, July 10th. Don t forget to call Ashley Meaney at 440-415-5607 set up an interview time. 2015 4-H Fighting Hunger Challenge! Collect non-perishable food and raise money for Manna Food Pantry. The challenge begins May 18 and ends Aug, 9! Turn in dates are June 20 at the Small Animal Clinic, July 18 at the Expo Building and Aug. 9 before the talent show. The club that raises the most in weight and/or money will receive a prize! Fairgrounds Beautification Contest The Ashtabula County Fair Board Auxiliary will again sponsor its beautification contest. To reserve a location and get details on rules and prizes, contact Chriss March at 440-275-6413. This is your chance to help make the grounds beautiful!!! General Projects and Food & Nutrition Ceremony Join us on Tuesday, August 11th immediately following the Royal Court crowning at the Expo Center for these awards.

4-H Market Animal Project News Market Animal Tagging May 2 Market Hogs, Market Lambs, Dairy Beef Feeders, Beef Feeders, and Market Goats must be tagged on Saturday, May 2. Animals must be castrated prior to tagging day. Tagging is $3 per animal and will take place on the Saddle Horse side of the fairgrounds from 9 a.m. noon. Market Turkeys will be tagged June 20 in the Small Animal Building from 9am-Noon. Market Chickens and Ducks will be tagged upon arrival to fair Monday, August 10. Carcass Show Changes July 29 6-8pm Steers, Sheep & Lamb Drop-Off Aug. 5 6-8 pm Hog Drop Off at Smokin T s Show August 8th Time: TBD Testing out of Quality Assurance Those who have passed their 12th birthday by January 1, can test out of QA training requirements until they reach the age of 15. Those who have passed their 15th birthday by January 1, can test out of QA training requirements for the remaining years that they will participate in 4-H/FFA. Please call the Extension Office at 576-9008 to set up an appointment to take the test. Those that do not pass the test must attend a QA session prior to June 1st. 2015 Assuring Quality Care for Animals/ Quality Assurance Information All Junior Fair and 4-H youth taking marketable and/or lactating livestock projects must attend an Ohio Quality Assurance Program. The below is a list of QA dates within the WREERA. 4-H members wishing to attend a Quality Assurance program outside of their own county MUST register with their own county. The home county 4-H staff will register 4-H member with the desired county Quality Assurance program. There is a $5 for attending Out of County. Signed documentation by the Quality Assurance instructor of out-of-county attendance is the responsibility of the 4-H member as proof of participation. Ashtabula County 4-H Horse State Fair Tryouts The Ashtabula County 4-H PAS Show will be Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Fairgrounds beginning at 9:00 a.m. Entry fee is $5 per class. Make checks payable to: Ashtabula County 4-H Saddle Horse Committee. Refreshments will be available. Registrations are due by June 15th and forms are available online and at the OSU Extension office. You must have a permission from the County Office to go to any other County 4-H PAS Show. Mandatory Parent/Advisor Horse Meetings At least one parent/guardian of each horse member and all horse advisors must attend one of the following meetings: June 28 3-5pm or July 14 7-9pm @ 4-H Expo Building. 9 Equine Royalty The Ashtabula County 4-H Saddle Horse Committee is sponsoring the Equine Royalty Contest. Any member of a Saddle Horse 4-H Club in Ashtabula County ages 14-18 as of January 1st, 2015 may apply. Rules and Guidelines are available online and at the OSU Extension Office. Judging criteria include the application, essay, interview (7/24), knowledge test and horsemanship class. The 2015 4-H Equine Royalty will be announced during the Saddle Horse opening ceremonies at fair. Applications and essays due by June 1st to OSU Extension. Horse Registration Horse registration papers must be in the Extension Office by June 1st. ABSOLUTELY no project changes will be accepted after 4:30pm, June 15, unless approved by the Saddle Horse Committee. Kits and notebooks may not be removed from the office. Study CDs are also available and may be signed out by advisors. Members can learn more about their animal, identify body parts, breeds, meat cuts, medical labels and animal care by using these resources. Market Chickens & Ducks Members may purchase Market Chickens and Pekin Ducks on their own or as part of a group by turning in an order form available at the OSU Extension Office. Chicks may not be hatched before June 1st and chickens must be in the member s possession by June 20 and ducks in possession by June 13. Note a meat pen is made of 4 chickens or 2 ducks.
