AUTUMN EDITION HOTSPUR NEWS EXCLUSIVE TO ONE HOTSPUR MEMBERS KIERAN TRIPPIER...uncovered! TOBY ALDERWEIRELD Centre stage KEVIN WIMMER Calm and collected EXCLUSIVE MEMBERS COMPETITIONS, EVENTS AND OFFERS
Kevin Wimmer looks like he has all the attributes to cope with the demands of the Premier League now he s just waiting for his opportunity to prove it. The Austrian international defender has only featured twice in our colours at the time of writing, appearing in our first Europa League game of the season at home to Qarabag before returning to the side for the Capital One Cup defeat to Arsenal. But he showed more than enough in those two performances to suggest he has the talent and composure to survive in the fast and furious environment of the English top flight. It seems that Kevin will need to bide his time however, with centre-halves Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld the current regular incumbents in Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino s Premier League side, but certainly appears ready should the opportunity arise. Still only 22, Wimmer already has over 100 senior matches under his belt having started his career in his homeland with LASK before enjoying a successful spell with FC Koln in Germany. He was part of the Koln side which won promotion to the Bundesliga in 2013-14, playing a key role in a defence that conceded only 20 goals, a new league record for the second tier in Germany. And he went on to feature 32 times for Koln in the top division, helping to record nine 0-0 draws and keep 13 clean sheets in total as the club finished a respectable 12th position. Such were his performances that Kevin was named the seventh best defender in the Bundlesliga that season by German football magazine Kicker IF SOMEONE HAD SAID TO ME LAST YEAR THAT I WOULD BE PLAYING FOR TOTTENHAM, I WOULD SAY THEY WERE CRAZY. I M VERY PROUD TO BE HERE AND I M SURE I WILL HAVE A GOOD TIME. I HOPE I CAN REACH MY BEST AND STAY FOR A LONG TIME TOTTENHAMHOTSPUR.COM 05

THE FIRST HALF AGAINST CITY WAS DIFFICULT BUT WE HAD SOME CHANCES IN THE SECOND HALF, ESPECIALLY AFTER WE WENT 2-1 UP. WE HAD A LOT OF BELIEF, WE PUT IN THE EFFORT, EVERYONE WORKED SO HARD AND AT THE END WE DESERVED THE WIN. NOW IT S IMPORTANT TO BUILD ON THAT upset in Spain by beating their more illustrious counterparts Barcelona and Real Madrid to the La Liga title. Having spent last season on loan at Southampton from Atletico, we secured his services during the summer and his performances so far suggest it was a great piece of business, as he s settled well into the centre of defence alongside his former Ajax team-mate and current Belgian international Jan Vertonghen. Despite an opening day defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford, we have steadily found our feet in the Premier League this season and, at the time of writing, recorded three straight wins including an impressive 4-1 home victory against Manchester City. That was a match in which Toby scored his first goal in our colours, nodding home Erik Lamela s corner to put us 2-1 ahead on the day, after we had trailed early on. While it was a victory that made people sit up and take notice, Toby insists that it s just another three points... although a very fine three points all the same! It was just a win, we can enjoy it, then we have to work hard again, improve every day and we can have a fantastic season, said the 26-year-old. We don t have to dream too much, we stay with two feet on the ground and work hard because we know we have a young, talented group of players. If we stay focussed and we do everything we have to do then we have the quality to make the difference. If I can help the team with a goal, then I m very happy, he added. To score my first goal at Spurs was a great feeling. The first half against City was difficult but we had some chances in the second half, especially after we went 2-1 up. We had a lot of belief, we put in the effort, everyone worked so hard and at the end we deserved the win. Now it s important to build on that. 16 TOTTENHAMHOTSPUR.COM

KIERAN TRIPPIER Digging a little deeper into the career of Kieran Trippier, from his youth days at Manchester City through to his arrival at the Lane during the summer. Let s start at the beginning then...where did Kieran first make a name for himself? Well, he joined Manchester City s youth set up at the age of nine and was signed as a scholar in their Academy in July, 2007. He certainly caught the eye in City s youth teams, particularly in 2008 when he captained the Under-18 side to FA Youth Cup success against Chelsea, winning 4-2 on aggregate in the final. How did his Manchester City career progress from there? Kieran signed his first professional contract later that year and became a regular in the Development squad but, with a string of star-studded arrivals coming through the door at the Etihad, he found it difficult to break through into the first team. He did play for City in a prestigious preseason friendly against Barcelona at the Nou Camp in August, 2009, but his first taste of competitive senior football came away from his parent club. Ah ok...so he moved out on loan? Yes, he went to Championship side Barnsley in February, 2010, and made his league debut at Middlesbrough in a 2-1 defeat. He plays three matches in his first week at Oakwell but gets injured in the third game at Scunthorpe United which put an end to that loan spell. That s what you call bad luck! How long was he out for? Kieran didn t play again that season but fortunately, Barnsley had seen enough in those few matches to maintain an interest and they took him back on loan at the start of the 2010-11 campaign. This time it was a much more successful spell and he was a virtual ever-present FOLLOW US TOTTENHAMHOTSPUR.COM 29
