Mrs. Houston s Monday Memo Servathon MLK 2018... #SERVANTLEADERSHIP

by Amber Houston on January 15, 2018 Welcome back to school---we had a good start to second semester this past week! Remember students start with a fresh, clean slate in their classes---so make sure to encourage your student to start strong, be consistent and stay on top of things! We have a big week coming up-please come down and share community on our campus for Lunch with a Lion and the In and Out Truck. You must pre-register for both events. Our choir will be serving tomorrow, Monday January 15th at Cypress Senior Center on our AUHSD Day of Service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. And remember we also observe this holiday-no school. We will resume on Tuesday with our normal Late Start Tuesday! JANUARY Perfect Attendance: NEW MONTH-NEW CONTEST! Lexington Junior High School is committed to the "30 Day Challenge" for perfect attendance. That means - No Absences and No Tardies for a month. And Yes, it is as easy as it sounds. However,, if you do miss a day, you may make it up during Saturday Academy. The best part of the "30 Day Challenge is that each month you have a chance to earn incentives and be recognized for perfect attendance. Important Upcoming Dates: Office Reminders: Lunch with a Lion, January 18th. In and Out, January 19th. PTSA Meeting January 18 @7:00pm @ Round Table Pizza. State of the City luncheon, January 17th. Speech and Debate CLinic, January 17th in library after school. Dress Code---no rips, torn clothing, frayed, tights, leggings. Bikes and Boards must be locked in our bike rack area. Detentions will be assigned starting Monday if left without lock. Please do not block our school driveway-our busses and emergency vehicles need that clear to enter.

THIS WEEK S TOP STORIES Library gives away The library book set giveaway has come to an end and here are the results. The number of books that have been checked out since the beginning of the school year totaled 5,795 books. The winning student with a guess of 5,776 is Yenny Islas Jaramillo. Congratulations Yenny!!!

Lexington s best dance crew Dance students are working in collaborative groups in preparation for the Lexington's Best Dance Crew competition on 2/1 at 6:30 in the MPR. Your $3 ticket let's you vote for the People's Choice Award! You don't want to miss this.

Choir participates servathon Our choir spent MLK Day, January 15th at Cypress Senior Center performing community service in recognition of AUHSD National Day of Service. I am so proud of our community support of our senior citizens. Not only did show choir perform some entertaining songs for them, they also stayed and served lunch to them. As

you know MLK Day is a nationally observed holiday with no school-these students elected to participate in this kind event! Bravo! Athletics start up for 3rd quarter 3rd Quarter sports has started! You can still come on out to have fun in supervised sports for the next 5 weeks. At the end of this time, All Star teams will be chosen for 7th and 8th grade teams and compete against other junior high schools in our district. This quarter is: Boys and Girls Cross Country, Boys Soccer, and Girls Basketball. In PE classes we have a lot new fun activities going on. In Mr. Brunet s class they are working on badminton, Ms. Shandy/Mr. Scanlon s classes are doing flag football, and Mr. Deck is enjoying table tennis! Here are some fun pictures!
