CT - AMES, IOWA STREAM: CYCLONES.TV ($) - STATS: CYCLONES.COM NOTES AND NUMBERS FOR WEEK FIVE BIG 12 BATTLE Oklahoma s February road stand continues this weekend with a contest on the road against conference foe Iowa State in Ames. The Friday night meet is set for a 6:30 p.m. start and will pit the Sooners against the Cyclones in a rematch from last weekend s Metroplex Classic in Fort Worth, where OU came away with a 197.700 victory to defeat ISU, LSU and Arkansas. The meet will continue a lengthy stretch of road matchups for OU as the team will not return to the Lloyd Noble Center until March 6. TOP NOTCH Two meets in three days couldn t slow Oklahoma down last weekend as the Sooners blazed to team scores of 197.650 at Denver and 197.700 at the Metroplex Challenge. With the efforts, OU now owns an impressive four of the nation s top five team scores so far this season and is averaging a 197.465 through five meets. The Sooners are also ranked No. 1 in the nation on uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise and No. 2 on vault as a team. AT A GLANCE RECORDS FALLING OU set yet another team record on Monday when the squad picked up its fourth consecutive week ranked No. 1 in the nation. The ranking gives the women s gymnastics program its longest streak yet of No. 1 rankings, topping the previous mark of three weeks set in January 2014. Oklahoma opened 2015 as the preseason No. 2 team before catapulting to the No. 1 spot after one weekend of competition. The Sooners have not surrendered that spot since opening weekend. Haley Scaman leads the way with two appearances in the top five: the junior is ranked second in the nation on vault and tied for fifth on floor exercise. Chayse Capps is ranked second in the country on balance beam, while the dynamic bars duo of McKenzie Wofford and Brenna Dowell own respective rankings of No. 4 and No. 5 on the event. QUICK HITS OU swept the Big 12 weekly honor listing for the third time this season on Tuesday. Kara Lovan earned her second consecutive Gymnast of the Week award, Haley Sorensen earned her first career Event Specialist of the Week honor and Brenna Dowell was named Newcomer of the Week for the third week in a row. Eight OU gymnasts are ranked as individuals this week: Erica Brewer (UB - 19, BB - 25), Chayse Capps (V - T-17, BB - 2), Brenna Dowell (UB - 5, FX - T-20), Ali Jackson (V - 22), Keeley Kmieciak (V - 16, UB - T-17), Kara Lovan (BB - 12, FX - 12), Haley Scaman (V - 2, UB - T-15, FX - T-5), McKenzie Wofford (UB - 4) Two current Oklahoma team members own perfect 10.0s this season: Haley Scaman (V) and Brenna Dowell (UB). Scaman now owns four career perfect 10.0 routines (two on FX, two on V), while Dowell became the first true freshman in Oklahoma history to earn a 10.0 on any event with her routine. With 281 career victories, head coach K.J. Kindler is within striking distance of her 300th career win in 2015. Makayla Hipke, Assistant Director McClendon Center for Intercollegiate Athletics 180 W. Norman, OK 73019 A GLANCE AT IOWA STATE The Iowa State Cyclones enter this weekend ranked No. 34 in the nation as a team, averaging a mark of 194.419 through four meets. Friday will be ISU s second home meet this season; the team is 1-1 in Hilton Coliseum this season. Iowa State s last home meet came on Jan. 18, when the Cyclones earned a season-high 195.975 in front of 5,000-plus fans to finish second in a tri-meet with Oregon State and Southeast Missouri State. ISU is paced by senior all-around competitor Caitlin Brown, who is ranked 19th nationally with an average of 39.213. Brown is a standout for the Cyclones on balance beam, where she is ranked in a tie for sixth in the country with an average of 9.875. Brown s season-high came in ISU s tri-meet on Jan. 18, a 9.95 performance that tied for Iowa State s best mark on beam in program history. BEAM QUEENS The Sooners have flexed their strength on balance beam since an uncharacteristic outing against Minnesota on Jan. 17: after that performance, OU has posted scores of 49.350, 49.375 and 49.400 on beam to earn the nation s No. 1 ranking on the event. Oklahoma is one of only three teams in the country to break the 49.400 threshold on beam this season, and the Sooners have done it two times. The Sooner lineup has been led by anchor Chayse Capps, who owns a No. 2 national ranking on the event. In five meets, Capps owns only one score lower than a 9.9 on beam and no score lower than a 9.875. JUST DID IT With a narrow 148.200-147.925 lead over LSU heading into the final rotation, Oklahoma knew it would need a strong outing on floor exercise to seal the win over the No. 2 Tigers and the rest of the Metroplex Challenge field on Jan. 31. The Sooners delivered with a season-best 49.500 outing, OU s second floor score of 49.450-plus in two meets. Haley Scaman anchored with a meet-best 9.95, while Kara Lovan, Ali Jackson and Brenna Dowell each contributed marks of 9.9 for OU.
