JUNE Newsletter 2018 PRESIDENTS REPORT Firstly, I wish to thank Mr Noel Pugsley for sponsoring the 40 Winks knock out 4 ball annual event which has been sponsored by 40 Winks since 2004. The qualifying round for this year s event was played on Saturday 26 th May. The qualifiers will need to arrange tee times to play their next round by the dates advised. We wish all qualifiers good luck. Earlier this year Vic Health invited applications from golf clubs for Active Club Grants. We applied for a grant which has been approved by Vic Health. The grant will cover the costs of Swing Fit equipment and advertising. Our aim is to increase the number of female members to our club by running a Swing Fit program with PGA Australia. We will keep you informed when the program commences. A two-person Ambrose event will be played on the queen s birthday public holiday Monday 11 th June. It will be a shotgun start at 12 noon and a sausage sizzle will be available from 11.00 am The temporary tee on the 18 th hole is now in play and work has commenced on construction of the new 18 th green, and should be ready for play early next year. Members are reminded that construction areas have been marked by red tapes advising that they are GUR areas and penalty free drops can be taken from point of entry. Men s and ladies district Pennant commences on the 3 rd June and we wish all players good golfing. Two practice nets have been installed and are located on the pathway from the old 9 th green heading towards the pro-shop. Thanks to Steve Fumberger, Ian Nimon (Duck), Anne and Ross Bowen for installing them. Some of the bunkers on our course have become unplayable because of stones appearing on the surface and have now been re-sanded to solve the problem. Any membership enquires can be directed to administration@milduragolresort.com.au A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT A review of the Club golf cart hire usage has been conducted and we have found that on days of golf club competitions many of them are not being used, therefore a decision has been made that as from Tuesday 15 th May the hire fee for all players playing in club competitions will be reduced from $33 to $20 for 18 holes. Some members have questioned if management intend to charge an annual fee for golf club members who use their own motorised golf buggies. This fee was to cover Personal Liability expenses. I am pleased to advise members that this will not happen, as we have received details from Golf Australia that personal liability insurance is covered in the Affiliation fees. All members are covered for Personal Liability insurance which is included in your current membership fees. The conditions are that you are only covered when you are playing or practicing golf and / or attending the AGM or official golf functions. If a member is visiting the venue for social activity you are not covered unless you have private cover. If you want to receive further information on this matter you can contact me or a committee member. We are now only 6 weeks away from the end of the current Financial year and management will be mailing out your invoice for the renewal of your membership fees. Most members will be aware that the club has minimised the increase of annual fees for the past 3 years. However, due to the high number of hefty price increases during this year it has become necessary to increase fees for the next budget year to ensure the viability and future of our club. During the current Financial year to date the total income for golf is equal to the same amount received in the previous year. However, due to the high increase in electricity costs plus the follow-on effect to our suppliers our costs have soared. Our electricity costs for this year are $9,000 above last years, fertiliser and fungus controller costs have increased by $12,000plus the cost of operating the Golf-shop has increased by $11,000. These areas of golf costs have increased by a total of $32,000 for the year to date. Committee and management have been able to reduce some costs in other areas but not enough to combat the effect of increased cost areas due to the outcome of these increases in costs, the club has no other option than to increase membership fees for full 7day members by $50.00. Other membership categories will be increased in proportion to the 7day category. The new Base rates are effective from 1 st July 2018 and exclude applicable Affiliation fees are: Full 7day Member (18 to 24 years old) $305.00 Full 7day member (25 to 66 years old) $560.00 Full 7day member (67year old and over) $440.00 Junior member (Under 15years old) $90.00 Junior member (15 to 17years old) $110.00 6day members (18 to 24 years old) $250.00 6day members (25 to 66 years old) $495.00 6day members (67years old and over) $365.00 Value and Country members $165.00 Summer members $300.00 Affiliation fees paid to Golf Victoria and Murray Darling will be charged at cost and will appear as a separate item on your membership fees invoice. All Comp fees will increase by $1.00 to $13.00. All golf members have the option of paying their membership fees in full by 30 th June or in quarterly instalments throughout the Financial year. Your Committee are working towards ensuring our golf club remains viable for you and the Clubs future for many years to come. We have the best golf course in Sunraysia and our green s staff are doing a super job to keep it this way. Colin Harrison President. 7
