London Winter Walk 14 th January 2018 EVENT INFORMATION

The 2018 London Winter Walk is nearly here and we hope that you are looking forward to getting on your warm weather gear and kick starting your New Year along with 2,000 other challengers! To help you make those final plans, and to get a better idea of what to expect, we have put together this information guide. Key pre-event information... E-Tickets & Bib Number Your final confirmed start time & bib number will be EMAILED to you as your E-Ticket on Monday 8 th January. For Registration on to the Challenge you MUST bring your E-Ticket with you - so print it off, or store it on your mobile. If you have NOT received this E-Ticket by close of play on Wednesday 10 th January please check your junk mail. You can also find your bib number and start time by checking our starting list which will be available on the Participant s Area from the 8 th January and you will be able to request a new one to be sent out to you. Download the London Winter Walk App... We are excited to launch the London Winter Walk App! Download for access to Walk specific documents, maps, exclusive offers, and much more. We will be updating the app in the lead up to the Walk - download using the below instructions: Available in both the itunes store and Google Play store search for Action Challenge and download our free App Use the code AC1 to access information and details on Action Challenge and to keep up to date with our news and events, and use the code WinterWalk to load the London Winter Walk information. Registration and the Start... Southwark Park, Gomm Road, London, SE16 2EH The start of the walk is at Southwark Park registration and the start line is located by the bandstand in the northern most section of the park. This will be signed from both Bermondsey and Canada Water station. Follow the signs and you will see our sail flags and marquee. There is on street parking available around Southwark Park on Hawkstone Road and Southwark Park Road both of which are free of charge on Sundays. CLICK HERE TO VIEW START LOCATION ON GOOGLE MAPS >> Registration Registration will be open from 07:00 am on Sunday 14 th January at the start venue in Southwark Park. You MUST aim to arrive on site at least 1 hour before your start time to register onto the Challenge. You MUST present your E-TICKET at the Registration marquee entrance Collect your EVENT PACK (contains an Event Pass / timing chip, lanyard, bib number & safety pins) You will need to complete medical details on your event bib should you have any serious conditions Collect your route card, neck buff and woolly hat! The Start At the start of the Challenge there will be a range of facilities including complimentary tea & coffee in the marquee, medics, toilets, Action Challenge representatives, and entertainment in the form of our warm up act & compere.

You will be called in to the starting pen 15 minutes prior to your start time you must join the correct slot - and there will then be a warm up and final safety briefing from our Team. You will then be sent on your way in groups of about 300 participants every 30 minutes. Route & timings... The Winter Walk will be split up into two stages with a halfway stop at 11km. This challenge is a walk and NOT a jog or a run and if you try to attempt the route as such you will not be operating outside of the event s structure and will not have use of the route signage, rest stop or finish facilities. This means that you will have ample time to enjoy the walk, the route & scenery! We anticipate that it will take between 3 6 hours to complete. Maps You will be supplied with a route card/map at registration and you MUST carry this with you at all times as it will contain emergency numbers for our Event Management Team. The route will be fully signed and you must always follow our route signage - not the plotted route. Online Google Route Map We have plotted the Route and Rest Stops in Google Maps although please note there may be updates/ amends to the route prior to the event and the final route will be confirmed on the 8 th January. Use the links below and save to your phone s web browser - so in an emergency, or you are lost you can use your phone s GPS signal to locate yourself on the route. CLICK HERE To View The Winter Walk Google Map >>> Rest Stop, facilities & food START Southwark Park, Gomm Road, London, SE16 2EH Getting there & away: The nearest tube station is either Bermondsey, Canada Water (Jubilee line) or Rotherhithe Station (London Overground) which are all approximately a 10 minute walk to the start line. There is on street parking available around Southwark Park on Hawkstone Road and Southwark Park Road both of which are free of charge on Sundays. For a list of local car parks please see - www.parkopedia.co.uk Facilities: Registration, teas & coffee, toilets & marquee Opening times: Registration for the walk starts at 7:00am MID- POINT REST STOP Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, Vauxhall, London, SW11 5HL Facilities: Toilets, a covered space, light snacks, tea & coffee, water & squash Getting away: The nearest tube/train station is Vauxhall - a 10 minute walk from the rest stop. Baggage FINISH Southwark Park, Gomm Road, London, SE16 2EH Medal at the finish line and enjoy some hot food in the marquee. Facilities: Finish line, toilets, medics, hot food, tea & coffee Getting there & away: Bermondsey and Canada Water (Jubilee line) or Rotherhithe Station (London Overground). You will be expected to carry your own day bag during the walk, and we recommend a rucksack of between 30-35L. Your day bag will have everything that you might need - water, compeed etc to avoid blisters, suitable layers (according to the weather), waterproofs, and any of your own snacks.

We will also have a Baggage Drop Service at the Start/Finish. Here you are able to leave any larger bags that you would not be able to walk with. We are not charging for this service but we would ask that if you can spare any change, to make a small donation to the local charity we are supporting. You will not have access to any bags left with us until you finish the walk. Event timing & tracking You will be issued with a timing chip & lanyard to be worn around your neck during the walk, and there will be staff with scanners at the start, finish and half way Rest Stop. You will need to pass through these check points in order for your tracking profile to be updated. Friends and family can use this to monitor your progress during the event (via the website and this will be available on our website on Wednesday Jan 10 th (4 days before the Walk). Your finish time will be immediately available following your completion of the Walk and we will email you on 17 th January with information about how to download your certificate. Share your location online! You can opt in to linking your Facebook profile with our timing system and it will send an automatic alert to your Facebook page and update friends with your progress! This will be going live - on the 10 th January don t forget to visit our website and / or the app too. Safety, event rules, and retiring from the Walk... The Control Room The Control Room is your contact point whilst on the Walk - and will handle all emergency and non-emergency calls. The contact numbers will be printed on the Route Map / Card. Route signage The route will be clearly signed with PINK ARROWS (which are directional). It is your responsibility not to get lost and having access to a Google type map is also recommended if you have the right sort of phone. The route will be marked with Kilometre Markers (1km to 20km) so as you track along, try and remember which one you past last - in case you need to describe your position to the Control Room. HAZARDS on the route will be indicated by a PINK SQUARE with a BLACK CIRCLE inside. Examples of hazards include road crossings and cycle lanes. Event rules Please read through our Event Rules below the challenge is walking through the streets of London and you need to be aware of the route, other participants and pedestrians, traffic and junctions at all times. It is your responsibility to stay safe out along the route. Your event Bib and Event Pass must be worn at all times - and you must have a Route Map with you. Participants must carry a mobile phone with them. The Event Organiser reserves the right to operate a 6 hour cut off time for all participants with the Mid Point Rest Stop closing times in accordance with this time frame. You are responsible for ensuring you are wearing appropriate footwear based upon the likely weather and route underfoot. If it is raining or icy part of the route may be slippery watch your footing. Be aware of all junctions, traffic lights, cyclists and other pedestrians at all times as the route follows busy London streets and paths. You must cross roads in the correct place (at traffic lights, pedestrian crossings etc). There are no roaming support vehicles so you are responsible for your own forward/ onward travel. Signage at times may be harder to spot than others if in any doubt always refer to the map.

Exiting / retiring from the Challenge If you need to exit/drop out of the challenge, please inform Event Staff either in person or by Text SMS to the number provided on the Route Card. Nearby tube stations and over ground stations will be marked on the Route Map given to you at the start. If for whatever reason you are in need of medical attention we will have medical teams at the start, mid-point and finish venue if you require medical attention along the route then you need to make your way to the nearest facility/ hospital as advised by our Control Room teams. If dropping out half way / Mid-Point Rest Stop Go to the Information Point and hand in your Event Pass. They will provide details of the nearest train & tube stations. What to do next... Remember your kit & check the weather Check the weather 2 days before the Walk to ensure you have everything covered come rain, snow or shine (hopefully). Warm clothes, layers, waterproof jackets, and phone. Good footwear is essential to ensure that you are comfortable throughout the challenge and waterproof. Get Social!
