Canyon High School Dance Team Parent Meeting 2015 16 Information on dance class offered by Canyon and Optional supplementals where a fee may be incurred by parents. What Canyon Provides: Dance Team Advisor (Certificated Teacher) Teacher that holds the class roster and supervises students in the event that coaches are not chosen as a supplemental option. Seventh Period Class (Not to exceed 25 students) Note that only one period of dance class is offered with a credentialed teacher. If parents elect to support the performance development team, then another class may be added. 1
Cost This class could be of no charge to parents. No coaches would be provided, and choreography and technique would come solely from the students. This class is free of charge. Grades for this class would come from seventh period only. A certificated advisor is assigned to that class. Rallies and Competitions would be optional. Optional Incidentals that Parents can choose to supplement: Coaches: $30.00/hr Varsity Competitive is recommending 2 hours of practice per day if using coaches. Remember, coaches are not required. Students are able to choreograph and practice under the supervision of a certificated teacher. Specialized instruction and performances are optional additions to the dance program. Performance development would practice five hours per week in a sixth period class if parents opted to select to fund this section. Otherwise, there would be no performance development team. Canyon would have just one Varsity Dance team. 2
Coaches: Performance Development Team: if there are 25 students in a class cost for a coach per week = $150.00. This fee equals out to $6.00 per week. If parents opt into this option, then fees are due for the semester prior to student being enrolled in the class. This fee is approximately $120.00/semester. Coaches: Varsity Competitive Team: Can opt into either 1.5/hr practices or 2 hour practices Ten hours a week of instruction equals $300/wk If there are 15 students in Varsity Competitive, this equals $20/week. Each semester would cost approximately $400.00 3
Optional Incidentals that Parents can choose to have their child participate in: Rallies and performances will be optional activities. Choosing not to participate in them will not affect a students grade in the class. Students opting to perform in rallies and other school events will need to purchase the performance costume in order to look uniform and represent the dance program in a cohesive manner. Cost of performance gear will not exceed one hundred dollars. Optional Incidentals that Parents can choose to have their child participate in: USA Dance Intensive Camp July 31st August 2nd @Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks $209 commuter, $386 overnight Must be paid in advance; school will not advance pay Recommended strongly for Varsity Competitive Can be discussed if performance development team exists 4
Optional Incidentals that Parents can choose to support their child in dance: CHS Varsity Intensive and Rally Prep Summer Intensive August 4 th 6 th 10 1pm Technique $50.00 1:30 4pm Hip Hop $35.00 Competitions These are for the Varsity Competitive Team only. Competitions are not a part of the dance class and are offered as an optional activity. As a result, parents are responsible for payment in full of any competitions that your child chooses to participate in. 5

Last year, the parent groups struggled with low attendance and support. Each parent should expect to participate in some form or manner to support the dance program. Examples of support include: building props and sets, assisting with the banquets and shows, ticket and food sales at performances, etc. 6
Students are expected to be on time and dressed ready to practice eating food and dancing in jeans, etc. will not be permitted. Students that drop a class for discipline or by choice will still be responsible for any optional fees that the parent opted in to. No refunds will be issued. Students will follow the Canyon expectations of conduct for student athletes. They are a representation of the school and shall model acceptable behaviors. Students are expected to be in the uniform designated for whichever performance. Students may not choose their own costumes. Coaches Expectations If coaches are chosen by the parents, then coaches will be: On time Consistent Organized Respectful Responsive 7
TRYOUTS 4 Judges that will not know any students 2 coaches that may know students, but will not be scoring 105 points total, which includes GPA and teacher evaluations Parent must sign, date and write on the bottom of the signature page and whether or not they opt in to supporting the coaches fees.
