Traffic Improvements Project Goals Widen roadway to construction two-way left turn lanes-greatly decreases congestion Ease access to & from residential side streets Reduce delays associated with turning movements improved side street turning radii Improve vehicular safety and decrease traffic accidents Decrease commuter delays Signal improvements at intersection of Shaw Road & 23rd Ave SE Relocate fixed objects within clear zone improving visibility and safety Reduce idle times, thus decreasing CO2 emissions Improve Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety, Mobility & Connectivity Option A: 10 ft shared-use path for pedestrians & bicyclists +7 ft sidewalks Option B: 5 ft sidewalks and 5 ft bikes lane both sides of road Three new pedestrian crossings with pedestrian actuate rapid flasing beacons New LED lighting to improve roadway safety & pedestrian/bicyclist visibility Upgrade Sidewalks, Shared-Use Path, and Curb Ramps to current ADA standards Facilities encourage pedestrians and bicycle ridership increase corridor connectivity Stormwater Runoff Reduction & Water Quality Improvements Provide pervious concrete roadway and pervious sidewalks Porous asphalt shared-use path (Option A) Infiltrate and treat roadway, sidewalk, & path stormwater runoff on site Decrease roadway pollutants entering into local streams flowing to Puget Sound Increase groundwater recharge
