Carcass Performance Partners 12th Annual Sale I want to welcome you to the 12th annual Carcass Performance Partners sale. Lucedale Ms. We have assembled the best set of bulls and genetics yet to offer this year. If you are younger than 30 your future in the Ag industry is very exciting!! Never in my life time has the cattle business had a brighter future. The Simgenetic business has been just as exciting, as the breed has made such strides in genetic gains and customer acceptance. World demand for American Beef is at an all time high. Protein from beef in America is also very strong. It s exciting but also challenging. Our input cost of production has skyrocketed! The greatest way to maximize profits in such a challenging situation improve your margin. The way to do that is buying a BETTER bull to breed your cows. Cull your poor performing bull and add new genetics, selected for performance, and you will add to your bottom line. Many producers feel a cow freshner will get the job done but it will not work!! You are leaving $100 or more per calf on the table if you use a poor sire for your calves. Increasing weaning weights from the sire is the easiest way to increase profits. It cost just as much to raise a sorry calf as a good one and the good one will out-weigh him. Our bulls are not pampered they are selected with you the cattlemen in mind. They will perform. We have many satisfied customers from CPP. Buying from Carcass Performance Partners you are putting over 50 years of genetic experience to work for you. We appreciate your support and thank you for your repeat business! We also want to thank Moley Herring and his staff for being so helpful over the years. They are the best too!! Give us a call if we can help. Thank you for attending the sale. QUICK GUIDE to ASA and $ INDEXES Expected Progeny Differences (): are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using, the difference between two sires represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have of +10 and 5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight, A would be expected to sire 15-pounds more weaning weight than B. If calving ease were the trait, A would be expected to sire 15-percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we d expect A to require 15 assists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull s rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org. Listed below are the units ASA are expressed in: All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose-sire scenario. (See below for more details.) Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat. Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight. Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers. Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight. Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters. Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk. Marbling (MRB): Marbling score. Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth. Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye. Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a steak. Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age. Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. (See below for more details.) Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight. Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight. Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score. $ Indexes: Though allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That s where $ indexes come in. Through well-conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend and economics to estimate an animal s overall impact on your bottom line. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ indexes: All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield. Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and First, determine which index to use; if you re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a+50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. Reference Sires CNS Dream On Flying B Cut Above Fat Butt SSS Daydream SSS Elijah SSS Peyton 395T TNT Tanker I want a 2-year-old bull!! The Good! The Bad! The Ugly!! Many times I ve heard those words. I wonder do cattleman really know what they are saying? If I had a dollar for everytime I ve heard it, it would be a lot of money!! I hear concern about getting all their cows bred, not having bulls fallout during breeding season, keeping breeding cost down per cow and so forth. I also wonder do they realize that 2-yr-old bulls cost more or that they may not be as good genetically as younger bulls. Lets explore these concerns and look at the pros and cons of a 2 yr. old bull and a yearling bull. 1. A 2 year old bull will get more cows bred- Maybe, but if he has to cover 40 50 cows he will still miss some, all the calves are not born in the first 80 days of the breeding season. 40-50 cows really need 2 bulls to get it done properly and efficiently. 2 yearling bulls will breed more cows than 1 2-yrold and they will be 2 next year -2 BULLS 2-YRS-OLD could breed 50-60 cows. 2. A 2-year-old bull won t fallout during breeding season- He will if he is not properly maintained nutritionally. 2-yr-old bulls are cutting their teeth and still fall off during breeding if they are not cared for - and managed. He is an ATHELETE and needs to be treated as such or he will get injured and be down off the job. I d rather have 2 yearling bulls still growing with 30-40- cows and breed 1 10 days then the other 10 days and rotate and keep them in good physical shape and get another year or 2 out of them before they have to be replaced. 3. A 2-year-old bull is just better- Really he is not!! His best semen is his semen produced the first year of his activity. It s a proven fact a bull gets older his semen isn t as genetically superior. A Yearling bull is genetically superior to a 2-yr-old. Most 2-yr-old bulls have been picked over last year someone purchased their choice of the younger bulls and the the 2-yr-olds are what s left. The seller won t tell you that but think about it, how many cattlemen refuses to sell a yearling when someone wants to buy?? I like to get my choice of a breeders bulls not after they been picked over. 3 4. A yearling bull just can t get it done!! Really he gets the job done better! His libido is stronger, he s more active, and he is more aggressive in doing the job he is there for. I like a younger, smaller bull breeding heifers and don t break down smaller cows or heifers with his weight. A young bull will get more cows bred. Don t discount him because he is a rookie!! 5 A yearling bull is more value-more bull for purchase price!! Yearling bulls cost less-sometimes $1000 $2000 less per bull and last longer. Usually you can buy 2 bulls 16 mos. old for price of 1 2-yr-old. Also the younger bulls are genetically superior to the bulls born a year earlier. Genetics change rapidly so keep up and buy the freshest genetics you can. The price of bulls go up every year so maximize. Buy 2 young bulls instead of putting all your money in one spread your risks. 6. Management is important regardless of the age of the bull Just because he is 2 doesn t mean you don t have to take care of your bull. Just throwing him out there and letting him rough it won t get the job done. Your bull won t last long even if he is 2, 3 or 4-yrs-old. You won t be satisfied. He will fail, and cost you more money!! The Good. Yearlings can get the job done and with more bang for your buck!! The Bad. 2-year-olds bulls cost more. You have to pay more when the seller has more cost in him! The Ugly. A GOOD bull is an investment! A bad bull is a Liability no matter what!!

Lot 40 SSS Sweet Tea 511Z Lot 41 Rockhill Ms Rito Z18 Double CC Farms, 284 Cuevas Gravel Pit Rd., Poplarville, MS 39470 We are a small family farm in registered cattle business. This is our 2nd year to consign to A Carcass Performance Partners sale. We breed our cattle AI with the ëtop notchî bulls to produce high performing cattle. Our bulls follow a rigid vaccination and worming protocol to protect against diseases and are registered with ASA. At Double CC Farms, honesty and integrity come first and we guarantee your purchases of top bulls will be high performance, easy doing bulls for your herds. Thank you for allowing us to pass on the product of prayer and hard work. Our growing family has received countless blessings and made many irreplaceable friends in the cattle business. Our hopes and prayers are the same happens to you with your purchases from Double CC Farms. Cody and Whitney Cuevas Rickey and Gay Nicholas The Rockhill Ranch is located in Purvis, Ms. and is owned by Rickey and Gay Nicholas. We have been in the registered cattle business since 1997 and have consigned to the CPP sale for the past 9 years. We originally started our registered herd with Black Angus and have since added Simmental, SimAngus and Simbrah breeds. We are actively cross breeding to obtain the optimal beef bulls and heifers that will work well in the hot and humid southern climate and still have excellent carcass traits. We are a small herd and therefore must use AI and Embryo technology along with our Simmental and Simbrah herd sires to obtain our goals. We also use ultrasound data, as well as an Igenity profile for carcass trait evaluation. Three of our bulls this year are out of some of the top matings from the 7L embryo program. We are also proud to announce that we recently became interest owners in the ABS Simmental sire GW Comfort Zone 651Y and have been interest owners in the Simbrah sire SSS Peyton 395T for some time now. Semen is available on both sires, GW Comfort Zone from ABS and SSS Peyton from Mark Smith. We thank you for your support of the CPP sale and ask that you contact any of the consigners should you have questions or have a need that we might help you with. At Rocky Hollow Farm, we have focused our program on raising quality purebred Simmentals. We purchased our first Simmental 19 years ago and have been extremely satisfied with the performance and disposition of the breed. We raise and market purebred and percentage replacement heifers and purebred Simmental and SimAngus bulls. Our herd program targets commercial cattlemen by providing bulls and heifers that have calving ease, fleshing ability, good dispositions and affordable to purchase. We use artificial insemination on 90% of the cows. This method of breeding allows us to use bulls that are proven sires and trait leaders. We have concentrated on traits that we know commercial cattlemen consider important to their bottom line. Calving ease, to make sure you get a live calf without problems. Weaning weights, to give you those extra pounds on the scale at sale time. Disposition, because no one wants to deal with crazy cows and bulls. Our herd has been certified brucellosis free and our health program includes weighing, vaccinating and worming each calf on a set schedule. There are several reasons we have joined Carcass Performance Partners to market bulls. We are a family farm and we wanted to consolidate marketing efforts with others to build a solid strategy for selling our best animals. We believe that you should stand behind the product you sell. It should meet or exceed the standards that the seller has represented. We believe that the past buyers of our bulls that have been marketed with Carcass Performance Partners have been satisfied, and that is why we have numerous repeat customers. We also believe in the minimum bid. We do not want any buyers to think that they have been run during a sale. We have found that honest and ethical selling practices will make a difference, not only for the buyers but also for our peace of mind. 12

Triple S Farms 304 Moeller Rd. Picayune MS 39466 Triple S Farms started as a dairy farm in the 50 s at its original location today. Hard work, perseverance, dedication and a lot of prayer and sweat, Triple S exists with 4th and 5th generations. Smith s Simmentals and Simbrah is the namesake with emphasis on quality genetics. Open AI was a no brainer in the 70 s and 80 s when established with heat tolerant efficient cattle paying the bills. Maternal traits, calving ease, marbling, growth, muscle and easy fleshing are selected with heavy pressure on convenience traits. The adage If they don t pay, they don t stay is real at Triple S!! If they don t breed they are turned into feed for the American consumer-hamburger!! Triple S has been blessed with many blessings in 2013. A new member of the family, Sara Catherine and Alan were married Oct.19, Jessica was elected as President AJSSA Jr. Board Trustees, and the best set of calves we ever had!! 2nd and 3rd generation SSS ELIJAH progeny, Resurrection, and Peyton calves second to none. It s proof quality genetics pays off for many generations. Our customers satisfaction is also much to be thankful for!! We invite you to add Triple S genetics to work in your herd and purchase from Triple S Farms. Mark, Debbie, Alan and Sara, Jessica Smith Salleys Simmental Farm, Billey Salley, 109 Alva Rd. Eupora, MS 39744 Salleys Simmental Farm is a small seedstock production, one man operation that is located in Central MS. I have been breeding Simmentals for 22 years. I started with red Fleckvieh Simmentals because I liked easy fleshing cattle. I switched to black Simmentals and try to maintain 20 mama cows using only AI sires and a strict culling program to maintain top quality cattle. This is my first year to participate in Carcass Performance Partners Sale. I have brought my best bulls to Lucedale to offer to improve your cattle. Arlon Lott, Pine Lane Farms, 12 Pine Lane Rd., Beaumont, MS 39423 I have been in farming and cattle all my life; we started with Simmentals in 2002 when my son Aaron started showing in 4H. We started with Brangus and switched to Simmentals. Our first commercial Simmental heifers we sold off our Simmental bull were outstanding, so we decided to buy some registered Simmentals. Showing Simmentals provides us with many champions and lots of fun. In 2009 I decided to go to MSU A I school and start an AI program in our herd. We AI every cow to the best bull we can. We sell private treaty, Dixie National, and Carcass Performance Partners sale. The Lord has blessed us in our cattle business and we have made many friends over the years. We select for calving ease, birth weight, and growth. We strive to produce cattle we can market and satisfy you, the customer. So thatís why we 100% guarantee everything we sell. If there is a problem we want to be the first to know and we will do what we can to make sure youíre satisfied. L4 Cattle Co. Adrain Lumpkin and family, 93 Joe Lumkin Rd, Carriere MS 39426 L4 cattle is guest consignor this year to Carcass Performance Partners sale. We are new to Simmental business with most of our genetics coming from 7L Farms and Ishee Simmentals. Commercial cattle has been our mainstay for many years before venturing into the seedstock business. We are offering 2 bulls and 1 registered heifer as well as 8 commercial Simmental cross heifers.these are off the top of our herd so should perform for you. We try to select the best sires to use AI so you can take advantage of our efforts. David and Dorthy Pipkins, 134 Jessie Smith Rd., Lucedale, MS 39452 David is a strong supporter of Carcass Performance Partners after buying his first bull from us several years ago; right here in Lucedale at an early CPP sale. He is an example of our commitment to quality, honesty and integrity, made CPP a friend and customer for life. He is offering 2 of his very best females in the sale this year. His bull he purchased for a mere $1,600 (even though he was worth twice that) years ago is still an influence in their herd. He is one of the reasons we try every year to sell you the best we can so you, the customer, is satisfied. Many times YOU the customer can buy bulls under the money at CPP sale just because we are a group of small breeders instead of one big outfit with lots of advertising dollars. Our bulls at Carcass Performance Partners are just as good as or better than these big ranches that buy other folks bottom bull instead of cutting them, feed them out and try to pawn them off for a big price because they are FAT!!We measure the genetics, cull the bottom as feeders, and bring you our very best bulls. Makes satisfied customers most of the time!!
