Growing up as a son in the cattle business, Cody has always had an appreciation for farming. It was in 1998 he owned his very first cow. From there he began developing a herd and one of the strongest work ethics around. In 2008 I was privileged to call him my husband and introduced him to some dear family friends, Triple S Farms. Together Cody and I began doing business and purchasing registered cattle from Mark and Debbie Smith. We have worked together to provide you with some of the best quality breeds. God has taught us many valuable lessons through working with livestock and we have received countless blessings through this journey together. Thank you for the opportunity to pass on the products of prayer and hard work. None of it would be possible without our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To God be the Glory! - Cody and Whitney Cuevas. Double C Farms Cody and Whitney Cuevas The Rockhill Ranch is located in Purvis, Ms. and is owned by Rickey and Gay Nicholas. We have been in the registered cattle business since 1997 and have consigned to the CPP sale for the past 7 years. We originally started our registered herd with Black Angus and have since added Simmental, SimAngus and Simbrah breeds. We are actively cross breeding to obtain the optimal beef bulls and heifers that will work well in the hot and humid southern climate and still have excellent carcass traits. We are a small herd and therefore must use AI technology along with our Simmental and Simbrah herd sires to obtain these goals. We also use ultrasound data, as well as an Igenity profile for carcass trait evaluation. We are extremely proud that two of the Rockhill Ranch SimAngus bulls shown by Joseph and Michael Windham won Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion in the 2011 Dixie National Junior Show. These two young men did an outstanding job in developing and showing the bulls. We thank you for your support of the CPP sale and ask that you contact any of the consigners should you have questions or have a need that we might help you with. At Rocky Hollow Farm, we have focused our program on raising quality purebred Simmentals. We purchased our first Simmental 19 years ago and have been extremely satisfied with the performance and disposition of the breed. We raise and market purebred and percentage replacement heifers and purebred Simmental and SimAngus bulls. Our herd program targets commercial cattlemen by providing bulls and heifers that have calving ease, fleshing ability, good dispositions and affordable to purchase. We use artificial insemination on 90% of the cows. This method of breeding allows us to use bulls that are proven sires and trait leaders. We have concentrated on traits that we know commercial cattlemen consider important to their bottom line. Calving ease, to make sure you get a live calf without problems. Weaning weights, to give you those extra pounds on the scale at sale time. Disposition, because no one wants to deal with crazy cows and bulls. Our herd has been certified brucellosis free and our health program includes weighing, vaccinating and worming each calf on a set schedule. There are several reasons we have joined Carcass Performance Partners to market bulls. We are a family farm and we wanted to consolidate marketing efforts with others to build a solid strategy for selling our best animals. We believe that you should stand behind the product you sell. It should meet or exceed the standards that the seller has represented. We believe that the past buyers of our bulls that have been marketed with Carcass Performance Partners have been satisfied, and that is why we have numerous repeat customers. We also believe in the minimum bid. We do not want any buyers to think that they have been run during a sale. We have found that honest and ethical selling practices will make a difference, not only for the buyers but also for our peace of mind. 2

The Smith Family Mark, Debbie, Alan, Jessica & Sara Catherine Triple S Farms originally started in 1954 as a dairy farm with 9 dairy cows by my parents Ezra and Charline Smith. We sold our 200 herd of Jerseys in 1988 and started a beef herd. In selecting a breed, we looked at Angus, Beefmaster, Brangus, Simmental & Simbrah. In our opinion, the Simmental breed had everything we wanted, plus open AI (no AI certificate fees). More AI sired cattle were readily available to purchase in local sales. The Simbrah were adaptive to our climate, heat tolerant and with Simmental maternal influence, it was a no-brainer to have Simgenetics. In 1989 like everyone else there were more red and white ones than black, but our customers demanded black bulls, so it was easy to make them black through our choices of AI sires. Since the beginning our management must include feed efficiency. The grass in our area is being gobbled up by subdivisions, so feed efficiency is very important. The demand for our Simbrah and Simmental genetics has been great. Calving ease, maternal carcass quality, disposition, and fertility have been and continue to be the driving force in our sire selection and what we are offering this year. Triple S today is Mark, Debbie, Alan, & Jessica and soon to be Sara Catherine, Alan s fiancé. Alan is at MS State working toward a Vet degree. Jessica is a Senior in high school and Sara Catherine is attending William Carey working on a nursing degree. The kids show the prettiest calves through 4-H and FFA. We sell the best and keep the rest to continue our cow families. Scarlet, Victoria, Pocahontas, Princess,Oreo, and Summer all have left their footprint in ours and our customers programs. Our bulls SSS Elijah 324P is a legend in Mississippi. SSS Peyton 395T and FB Ressurection are his best sons to date. They are starting to make a name for themselves. BBS Topcut U203 is our answer to the demand for growth in our Simmental cattle. That s why we say family is important in cows and kids! We sell show heifers and herd bulls that are as good as you can find. Many folks think you have to go out West or North to get the best, but at Triple S, we ve been breeding to the best for 20+ years, up to 5 generations. All the genetics in a cow family are superior-as is the sires we use. We invite you to put all this knowledge, effort, and dedication to work for you in your operation and buy from Triple S Farms! 11

How does fat make a bull better? Fat bulls do look thicker (with a half inch of fat covering you would look thicker too) and their weights are more impressive (fat can easily add 100-200 pounds of weight but it does not represent growth or muscle). Putting fat on bulls is like spray-painting over rust, they look better but it doesn t change what s underneath. A bull s looks are important to help determine type, kind and structure. Is the bull structurally correct? Does he walk on a big sound foot with a long smooth stride? Is he tall and narrow or moderate and thick with muscle? What s his disposition like? These are very important pieces of information you must look for beyond the genetic descriptions given from EPD s. How a bull looks and moves is important but none of these traits have anything to do with excess fat. Fat bulls have been conditioned to sell better not work better. It s hard to move, breeding takes more effort and bulls tire easier because they are not conditioned and developed to chase cows, cover pastures and work for a living. Being physically conditioned has clear cut advantages for preforming in your pastures. Pick your bulls like you were fielding a NFL Player, not a Pie Eating contest winner!

QUICK GUIDE to ASA and $ INDEXES Expected Progeny Differences (): are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using, the difference between two sires represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have of +10 and 5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight, A would be expected to sire 15-pounds more weaning weight than B. If calving ease were the trait, A would be expected to sire 15-percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we d expect A to require 15 assists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull s rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org. Listed below are the units ASA are expressed in: All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose-sire scenario. (See below for more details.) Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat. Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight. Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers. Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight. Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters. Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk. Marbling (MRB): Marbling score. Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth. Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye. Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a steak. Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age. Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. (See below for more details.) Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight. Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight. Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score. $ Indexes: Though allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That s where $ indexes come in. Through well-conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend and economics to estimate an animal s overall impact on your bottom line. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ indexes: All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield. Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a+50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed.
