This Week s Games: The first half of the conference season comes to an end on Wednesday night with one of the biggest games on the schedule. Truman will look to put a blemish on the record of unbeaten and #3 ranked Central Missouri on Wednesday night in Pershing Arena. Truman will be looking for some revenge after the Mules eliminated the Bulldogs from the NCAA South Central Region tournament last season. The Bulldogs and Mules will swap venues with their second conference meeting one week later in Warrensburg. Sandwiched in between the Mules is the Missouri Southern Lions and a Saturday afternoon affair in Pershing Arena. Truman defeated the Lions 70-53 in Joplin back on Dec. 9th. Missouri Southern will have a busy week playing three times. The Lions had a make-up contest with Southwest Baptist on Monday night, followed by a home game with Washburn on Wednesday night. Broadcast Info: Truman basketball can be heard on 104.7 Superstation KRES with Brad Boyer and Hank Janssen calling the action. The game will also be available over the internet at regionalradio.com and on Teamline. The broadcast kicks off 20 minutes prior to tip-off with the All-New Bentz GM Country pre-game show, continues with the Depot Inn and Suites Halftime report and concludes with the Sydenstricker Farm and Lawn post-game show. Coach Jack Schrader: Jack Schrader is in his 12th year on the Truman bench and was named the MIAA and NABC Division II South Central region Coach of the Year following the 2005-06 season. It was the second time Schrader had been named coach of the year in both the conference and the region by his peers. The first was following the 1998-99 Final Four squad. Schrader is a graduate of Arizona State and has a 137-183 overall record. Last Time Out: Truman 81, Southwest Baptist 68 (Bolivar, Mo.) Jan. 20, 2007 - The men s basketball team exploded in the second half to erase a seven-point halftime deficit and picked up a huge MIAA road win in Bolivar. Truman trailed 40-33 at half but outscored the Southwest Baptist Bearcats 48-28 in the second to win 81-68. Both teams went back and forth in the first half with Truman taking a 23-22 lead following a threepointer by Banks Estridge. However, the league s top three-point team found their stroke in the final five minutes of the half as they drained four treys and eventually took a seven-point lead. The Bearcats scored the first basket of the second to increase their lead to nine points but Austin Kirby s three-pointer started the rally. A 16-2 run by the Bulldogs gave them a five point lead just six minutes into the period. A basket by Jason Jemison and a free throw by Jim Grabowski cut the lead to two points at 49-47 but Truman would score 11 straight and take command of the contest. With the score 62-51, the Bulldogs free throw shooting carried the team the rest of the way. Truman scored 10 of their next 12 points from the charity stripe and Nick Certa s triple put the exclamation point and gave the Bulldogs their largest lead at 18 points with 2:38 to play. Truman, the league s top defensive three-point team, shutdown the Bearcats in the second half by limiting them to just 1-of-6 in the final 20 minutes, with the lone one finding the bottom of the net with 1:46 to play and the game out of reach. Estridge finished with a career-high 26 points with 15-of-16 coming from the foul line. Certa poured in 18 points and Kirby added 14 for the Bulldogs. SBU was led by Andy Wills s 13 and Jason Jemison s 12 points. Colt Blair scored all 11 of his points in the first half before being shutdown by the Bulldog defenders. Northwest Missouri 70, Truman 52 (Maryville, Mo.) Jan. 17, 2007 The Truman Bulldogs lost an MIAA road game on Wednesday night to #15 Northwest Missouri by a 70-52 score. The Bulldogs had an early 16-9 lead after a three-pointer by Nick Certa, but consecutive triples by the

Grant Agbo and Austin Kirby had back-to-back baskets to put Truman back in front 22-17 but Northwest went on an 11-2 run to take a 33-27 lead and eventually a 35-31 halftime advantage. In the second half, Northwest had a 44-37 lead but the Bulldogs scored the next seven to tie the game. The Bearcats would go on a 9-2 run during the middle part of the period and extended their advantage to 61-48 with two buckets and three trips to the charity stripe. The Bulldogs were outscored 26-8 in the final 12:13 of the game. Grant Agbo led the Bulldogs with 18 points, while Hunter Henry led the Bearcats with 22. Truman shot 47% from the floor but was just 3-of-17 from beyond the arc and committed a season-high 19 turnovers to the league's top defensive team. The Bulldogs were 72% at the foul line on 18 attempts. Northwest turned the ball over four time in the first 4:22 of game action but only twice the rest of the way in the victory. The Bearcats shot 41% from the field, made just 3-of-11 three-point attempts and was 23- of-32 at the foul line. Banks Has Solid Week: Sophomore guard Banks Estridge found himself in rare company in the Bulldog record book on Saturday afternoon. Estridge was 15-of-16 at the foul line to tie his career high with 26 points. The 15 made free throws are tied for fourth all-time in Truman single-game history. It matched Terry Bussard 15 made throws from a Jan. 30, 1979 game against Northern Iowa. Only three other Bulldogs have made more free throws than that, Bill Ausmus went 25-of-31 on Dec. 12, 1955 against Northwest Missouri, Cory Parker was 16-of-17 in a Missouri Western contest on Jan. 6, 1999 and Paul Taylor was 16-of-18 against Emporia State on Jan. 4, 1996. Estridge also set a new benchmark in steals with five against Southwest Baptist and tied a career-high with eight assists in Wednesday s loss to Northwest Missouri. Series Records with Central Missouri: Central leads the all-time series between the two schools 112-66. Each team split the two regular season meetings, winning on the opposing team s home court, however Central won an overtime contest in the NCAA South Central Region tournament in Bolivar. Last Year vs. Central Missouri: Truman 77, 69 (Jan. 4, 2006 - Multipurpose Bld.) A strong second half performance by the Bulldogs enabled them to overcome a five-point halftime deficit and defeat then 11th-ranked Central Missouri on the road. The Mules led 33-28 at the break and increased their lead to 10 points less than a minute into the second half before Truman went on a 14-3 run to take the lead after a Grant Agbo basket at the 13:48 mark. Truman shot 60% from the field in the second half, while limiting the Mules to just 28% for the second and 33% overall. Andy Calmes had 18 points with 14 rebounds and Chip Sodemann added 17 for the victorious Bulldogs. Central was led by David Hilliard s 17 points 66, Truman 62 (Feb. 22, 2006 - Pershing Arena) The Mules turned the tables on the Bulldogs in the rematch in Pershing Arena by shooting 64% in the first half and never relinquishing a 13-point halftime lead. Truman tried a comeback as the teams battled down to the wire in the final minute. Grant Agbo, Austin Kirby and Andy Calmes all made shots to keep the Mules to within six points with :44 seconds showing. Calmes s free throws cut the deficit to four, but Wadale Williams made a pair to increase it back to six with :39 seconds remaining. Agbo and Chip Sodemann scored back-to-back baskets with Sodemann s being a three-pointer to cut the Mule lead to one with :15 seconds left. However Michael Hicks converted on a pair of free throws and Calmes missed a late three-point attempt to give Central the win.

Truman was led by Sodemann s 15 points. 67, Truman 63-OT (Mar. 11, 2006 - Meyer Sports Cnt.-Bolivar, Mo.) The rubber match occurred in the first round of the NCAA South Central regional held in Bolivar, Mo. The Bulldogs dominated the first half taking a commanding 35-17 lead. Truman was on a 20-2 run until Wadale Williams drained a triple at the first half buzzer in what would be an omen to what would come. The Mules shot 52% in the second half and used 20-of-22 free throw attempts to cut the Bulldog lead down to one-point with 1:46 showing. Chip Sodemann put Truman ahead by three with 1:13 to play but a basket by Corey Brown after Andy Calmes missed a pair of free throws put the Mules just one point back. Austin Kirby hit his throws with eight seconds left but Michael Hicks launched a long-range three that went in at the with :04 seconds left to tie the game. Alonzo Brooks put Central in front in the extra period with a basket with just over a minute to go and Hicks hit three of his four attempts at the line to allow the Mules to advance in the tournament. Hicks scored 29 points with 19 coming at the foul line to lead the Mules. Truman was led by Austin Kirby s 18 points. Notes on Central Missouri: The Mules are 16-0 for the first time since the 1989-90 season and just two wins shy from matching their best start of 18-0 also from the 89-90 season and 79-80 campaign. Central s only loss came to the University of Oklahoma in an exhibition contest on Nov. 5th, 74-69. Central s number three ranking is the highest mark since the 1985 season when they were second. It was following the 1984 national championship season. The Mules have made more free throws than their opponents have had attempts. Central is 325-of-449 (72.6%) from the line while the opposition is just 178-of-271 (65.7%) at the so-called charity stripe. Five Mules are in double-figures in scoring with transfer Zack Wright leading the way at 17.2 ppg. Wright is scoring at a 17.9 clip in the seven conference games and had a season-high 33 against. Theo Jones is the team s top three-point shooter at 46% making 35-of-78 attempts from beyond the arc. Kim Anderson is in his fifth season at Central Missouri and is 94-40 as the taskmaster of the Mules. Series Records with Missouri Southern: Missouri Southern hold just a one-game advantage over the Bulldogs in the all-time series records between the two schools. The Lions are 17-16 over Truman with the Bulldogs winning the last four meetings. Missouri Southern s last win in Pershing Arena was a 91-83 victory in 2003. Last Time vs. Missouri Southern: Truman 70, Missouri Southern 53 - (Dec. 9, 2006 - Leggett & Platt Center) Dec.. 9, 2006 A 27-6 run in the first half helped the Truman men s basketball team defeat Missouri Southern on Saturday afternoon in the MIAA conference opener on the road. Nick Certa had a game-high 23 points with 15 coming in the first half to lift the Bulldogs to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference. TJ Britton scored just six seconds into the game for Missouri Southern but it would be the last lead that the Lions would see all afternoon. Truman dominated in the first period with quick ball movement and stingy defense to lead by as many as 25 points in the first half. After a Britton lay-up to cut the Bulldog lead to two points with 15:55 to go, Certa slammed one in to spark the Truman team. Certa and Andy Calmes scored the Bulldogs next 21 points, 13 by Certa on a pair of triples and eight by Calmes to put Truman in front 31-17. Austin Kirby got in on the action with four first half points and Travis Kern capped off the run with a jumper in the paint with 3:22 remaining in the period. Truman maintained the large lead for most of the second half, allowing the Lions to close to within 14 points with just over eight to play on a basket by Terrell Rice. However, Certa responded again, scoring the Bulldogs next four points to put water on the small fire created by the Lions. Certa finished with 23 points, while Calmes had 12 points and 13 rebounds, as well as picking up eight assists. Kirby added 12 points as well and Grant Agbo had a strong game with eight point and 10 boards. As good as the Bulldogs were offensively; their defense limited the Lions to just 30% from the field and 16% outside the arc. Deonte Cox, the Lions leading scorer at 14.3 ppg, was shutdown to only six points, all coming in the first half. Notes on the Missouri Southern: Missouri Southern dropped an 84-77 decision to Southwest Baptist on Monday night and are 7-10 overall and 2-6 in the MIAA. The Lions had won two of their last three games before playing on Monday and Wednesday of this week. Monday s game with Southwest Baptist was a make-up game from a weather postponement on Jan. 13. Missouri Southern will host Washburn in a key battle for one of the eight seeds to the MIAA Tournament on Wednesday night. The Lions are 7-9 overall and 2-5 in the MIAA. The Bulldog victory over the Lions sent them on a five-game loosing skid which they broke with a 59-57 win over #11 Northwest Missouri on Jan. 10th at home. Deonte Cox enters the week leading the team in scoring at 12.5 ppg. Robert Corn is in his 18th season as head coach of the Lions and has a 264-218 career record. In 1999-2000, Corn guided the Lions to a South Central regional championship and a berth in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
