Two Camille Little 3-pointers helped the Sun close the first quarter knotted at 21-21, and Courtney Williams' layup early in the second put Connecticut on top 25-23. However, Moore triggered an 8-0 burst that gave Minnesota the lead for good and the Sun were later held scoreless over the final 3:22 of the half as Natasha Howard boosted the margin to 44-34 at intermission. Moore's jumper punctuated a 14-5 start to the third period that widened the lead to 19. Up 73-55 entering the fourth quarter, the Lynx grabbed their largest lead of the night when Lindsay Whalen's alley-oop pass to Moore made it 81-61 with 7:16 to play. Connecticut rallied to within 12 on two occasions but could get no closer down the stretch as the Lynx salvaged the finale of the three-game season series. Rebekkah Brunson netted 13 points for Minnesota while Alex Bentley's 16 points led the Sun and Jonquel Jones had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Previous Game: Friday, Sept. 2 Minnesota 75, Washington 69 Maya Moore scored 13 of her 27 points in the final five minutes, including a key jumper with 45 seconds left, and Sylvia Fowles added 15 points and 17 rebounds as the Lynx held off Washington, 75-69, on Friday night at Target Center. Minnesota led 24-21 after one quarter, and Fowles' layup capped a 15-3 uprising that stretched the margin to 41-28 with 3:44 to play in the second. The Mystics closed to within nine by halftime and a Stefanie Dolson trey made it 43-37 early in the third period. Tayler Hill's last-second steal and layup cut the Lynx' advantage to 55-51 entering the fourth and jumpers by Kahleah Copper and Leilani Mitchell pulled Washington even at 55-55 with 8:12 remaining. The Mystics stayed within one following a LaToya Sanders basket at the 1:47 mark, but Moore countered with a pair of free throws and the aforementioned jumper to push Minnesota's lead to 68-63 then added seven free throws in the waning moments to foil Washington's comeback bid. Lindsay Whalen put in nine points for Minnesota while Hill led the Mystics with 15 points, Mitchell tacked on 13 and Natasha Cloud had seven assists and six rebounds. LYNX TRAX: Minnesota completed a 3-0 homestand with Sunday's 93-79 victory over Connecticut, its first win in three outings vs. the Sun this season and ending a three-game series losing streak overall The win reduced the Lynx' "magic number" to one for securing a berth in the semifinal round of the 2016 WNBA Playoffs; they're four games in front of 3rd-place New York (20-9) with five to play At 24-5, Minnesota has equaled its best 29-game start in club history (also 2012) and is now one victory shy of registering its fifth 25-win campaign in the last six years Los Angeles (five), Connecticut (three) and Houston (three) are the only other WNBA teams to have compiled multiple seasons with 25+ victories; Detroit, Phoenix, Sacramento and Seattle have done so once each Sunday's win was Minnesota's ninth in a row at Target Center, equaling the third longest run at home in club history The Lynx will play their next four on the road before returning to host Atlanta in their regular-season finale on Sept. 17 The three-game homestand began with a 92-80 victory over Seattle on Aug. 28 and continued with last Friday's 75-69 decision vs. Washington The Seattle win completed a sweep of the four-game season series and was Minnesota's 14th consecutive Target Center triumph over the Storm dating to 2010 STREAKING: The Lynx saw their six-game winning streak halted with the 84-80 setback at Connecticut on Aug. 26 their first loss since the previous visit to Uncasville (93-89 in OT, July 7) Minnesota took the streak into the Olympic break with a 79-72 win vs. Seattle on July 22 at Target Center; during that run, the Lynx outscored the opposition by +17.5 ppg (87.0-69.5) The streak began with a 93-56 home triumph vs. Dallas on July 9 and included an 81-57 win July 12 at San Antonio, an 88-70 victory over New York on July 15 at Target Center, a 98-97 OT win July 17 at Dallas and an 83-65 home verdict over Atlanta on July 20 The Lynx completed their first three-game homestand of 2016 at 2-1 following the 87-82 win over Chicago on July 5 Minnesota stopped its three-game losing streak with the 91-68 win over San Antonio on July 2 The drought tied the Lynx' longest since a five-game slide in July 2010; they also endured three-game skids in 2012 (July 1-5-7), 2013 (Aug. 8-11-16) and 2014 (Aug. 9-12-15) New York overcame a 15- point deficit in the final 6:00 of regulation to edge Minnesota, 95-92 in OT, on June 29 It's the largest lead the Lynx have let slip away in a loss since Aug. 17, 2010, when Seattle rallied from 16 points back to win, 68-64... Washington routed the Lynx, 87-63, on June 26; the 24-point spread represents Minnesota's largest losing margin since falling 96-66 at Los Angeles on July 2, 2013 FINDING THE RANGE: The Lynx shot 53.7% Sunday vs. Connecticut, the 10th time this season they've topped 50% (sixth in 13 since July 1) The Aug. 26 game at Connecticut was their first loss in those 10, as well as just their second in that category since the start of the 2011 season (62-2) Minnesota tied a club record and set a 2016 WNBA season high by collecting 58 paint points in the July 17 win at Dallas The Lynx hit a season-best 56.2% June 19 at Seattle, bettering their prior high of 55.1% in the June 10 win in Atlanta Minnesota overcame a season-low 37.0% outing in the June 7 win vs. Phoenix, one of three sub-40% efforts to date; they shot 37.7% in the June 26 loss at Washington (finishing with a season-low 63 points) Minnesota was limited to 38.1% in last Friday's win over the Mystics, including just 25.9% (7-for-27) in the 2nd half Still, the Lynx lead the WNBA in scoring margin (+9.6 ppg); they also rank 2nd in scoring (85.7 ppg), 2nd in FG accuracy (47.2%), 2nd in assists (20.0 apg) and 3rd in offensive efficiency (107.2) DEFENSIVE DOINGS: The Lynx held Dallas to 24.6% shooting on July 9, their best defensive percentage in franchise history and the best figure in the WNBA this season Minnesota has won 34 consecutive games when keeping the opposition below 40% from the floor (11-0 this year, 83-1 since the start of 2011) In winning nine of their last 10 starts, the Lynx are allowing just 35.5% (119-for-335) and 34.4 points in the 2nd half Los Angeles shot 50.7% on June 24, the first time Minnesota has allowed 50%+ this year The Lynx swiped 15 steals June 4 vs. Dallas, tying the 2nd-highest single-game total in franchise history They also had 15 steals May 14 vs. Phoenix and May 31 at New York; the record is 17, set in Atlanta on June 30, 2009 Minnesota is 4th in the WNBA in steals (8.14 spg) and 3rd in TOs forced (15.3 per game) The Lynx set a club record for most blocks in a game (11) May 27 vs. Indiana Minnesota leads the WNBA in defensive efficiency (95.3) and ranks 2nd in both defensive FG pct (41.0%) and scoring defense (76.1 ppg) THE BOARD REPORT: The Lynx outrebounded Washington 41-31 on Friday, the 11th time in 20 games they've enjoyed a double-digit cushion Minnesota has put together a +7.3 rpg margin (37.4-30.1) in the last 20 and has now won 51 straight games (including 11 this year) when posting a double-figure edge The +26 rebound spread (51-25) July 9 vs. Dallas is the top single-game margin in club history, while Minnesota's 51 rebounds are the most ever in a regulation game and the 41 defensive rebounds are a franchise record Connecticut's 13 offensive boards on Sunday match a season high for a Lynx opponent (also July 7 at Connecticut); Minnesota is 2nd in the WNBA in total rebounding pct (.530) while also ranking 2nd in defensive rebounding pct (.301) and in offensive rebounding pct (.759) They're also 3rd in fewest points off turnovers allowed (14.8 per game) and 3rd in fewest paint points allowed (31.9 ppg) ONE FOR THE BOOKS: The Sparks handed Minnesota its first loss of 2016 with the 94-76 decision on June 24, avenging the 72-69 defeat three days earlier at Staples Center The setback ended Minnesota's club-record-tying 13-game winning streak (also Sept. 4, 2011-June 15, 2012) to open the season, the longest such run in WNBA history The June 21 victory was the Lynx' fourth in their last five trips to Los Angeles (beginning in 2014) Minnesota rallied past Seattle, 96-84, on June 19, and cruised to an 87-63 victory over Indiana on June 14 The Lynx concluded a two-game homestand with the 89-81 victory vs. Phoenix on June 7, sweeping the season series Since the start of 2011, the Lynx have compiled an 87-14 (.861) record at home and a 151-48 mark (.759) overall ROAD WORK: The June 26 loss at Washington halted the Lynx' road winning streak at eight, the 2nd-best run in franchise annals; they strung together 10 consecutive road wins from Aug. 18, 2011 to June 15, 2012 It's the 2nd-longest road winning streak to begin a season in WNBA history; Los Angeles saw its 9-0 road start come to an end with the July 17 loss in Atlanta Minnesota completed a 3-0 road swing with the 85-78 win in Phoenix on May 25, three nights after holding off Seattle, 78-71 The Lynx began their threegame trip with the 97-80 victory on May 18 at Chicago It's just the second time in franchise history they've gone unbeaten on a road trip of 3+ games; the Lynx went 4-0 in July 2013 with wins at Indiana, Tulsa, San Antonio and Phoenix
