Volunteer Spotter Training
Attire Please be prepared with the following items: White Golf Shirt Khaki Shorts or Pants Comfortable Walking Shoes (If Golf Shoes, No Metal Spikes) Drinks & Lunches will be provided.
Arrival & Parking Volunteers are asked to arrive five minutes before their assigned time in the case of last minute instructions. Parking is available at the main clubhouse at Scioto Country Club.
Spotter Responsibilities Assist players with finding their golf balls in the rough Contact Tournament Staff/Rules Officials of any potential Rules of Golf/First Aid situations
Actions Not Permitted A spotter may not: touch a player s ball offer advice make any Rules of Golf decision

Items to Pick Up at Volunteer Check-In Please make sure you pick up the following items at check-in: Irrigation Flags (For Identifying Position of Ball) Pairing Sheet SOPGA Volunteer Hat Water/Gatorade
Arriving at Hole Station Volunteers will be escorted to their hole by a member of the SOPGA Staff.
Arriving at Hole Station The cart can be used for sitting & shade, but must remain stationary and not used for searching for golf balls
Know Your Approximate Location on the Course
Spotter Responsibilities Position Yourself Approximately 300 Yards from the Tee Location Should Allow You to Clearly See the Player s Tee Shots, but not Serve as a Distraction Should be Located in the Rough Off the Fairway
Spotter Responsibilities Spotters can walk across the fairway to look for a ball after all players in the groups have finished playing from tee.
Spotter Responsibilities When a ball is found in the rough, place an irrigation flag a foot or so behind the ball to mark its location for the player.
Spotter Responsibilities Golf balls in the fairway do not need a flag placed near them to show their location.
Spotter Responsibilities When group reaches their golf balls, retrieve the flags from the players & move into position to spot for next group.
Reporting On-Course Situations Examples of on-course situations include: Rulings First Aid When conveying the information, provide specifics as to: Location of situation Type of situation Staff people needed Please call Kevin Stanton, PGA (937) 305-4509 or flag a roving Rules Official if one of these situation arises.
Inclement Weather Suspension of Play for a Dangerous Situation (lightning, etc.) will be signaled by a prolonged horn blast. Suspension of Play could also be signaled by three prolonged horn blasts in a non-dangerous situation (rain, strong winds, etc.)
Inclement Weather Staff will assist volunteers in getting to safe location if inclement weather is nearby.
After Shift When last group has played through your hole or your shift is over, return any necessary items to the Scoring Tent located near Scioto clubhouse.
