School Council: 6 th December 2016 Bacchus Marsh College Uniform Policy Purpose / Rationale: To reinforce in students a pride in their own appearance, to instill recognition of themselves as an integral part of the College. This Policy is supported by a Dress Code which is inclusive of, but not limited to, issues of equality, health, safety and expense. Objectives: To promote equality amongst all students. To further develop a sense of pride in, and identification with our College. To provide durable clothing that is cost effective and practical for our College environment. To maintain and enhance the positive image of the College in the community. Guidelines / Implementation: A consultative process will guide College Council and relevant stakeholders, in the modification of the Dress Code. The Dress Code applies during the school day (in class and in the school yard), while travelling to and from school, and when students are on school excursions. It is expected that optional school items (e.g. jacket, scarf, etc.) are adhered to from the Dress Code during these times. Uniforms will be prescribed and are required to be worn as stated in the Dress Code. There are clear guidelines for Summer, Winter and PE / Sport Uniforms items are not to be mixed and matched. Students are required to wear only the approved uniform with the College logo (where applicable). When representing the school in extra-curricular activities, the Uniform requirements will be stipulated e.g.pe / Sport Uniform to be worn for interschool sport, the designated EBT polo shirt (with school logo) to be worn at Energy Breakthrough events, etc. All other acceptable accessories (refers to jewellery, hairstyles, make-up, head wear) must comply with the Dress Code. The Dress Code, including details of uniform items and places of purchase, will be published in the Newsletter and school website (www.bmsc.vic.edu.au). It is expected that uniform will be purchased from the designated supplier/s. College Council requires the Principal / Nominee to be responsible for the implementation of the Dress Code in a manner consistent with the Student Code of Conduct. The College will make arrangements for an annual second hand uniform swap / sell to support families. Arrangements can be made to supply uniform / second hand uniform for families experiencing economic hardships. Parents should make contact with the relevant Student Welfare Coordinator. Parents seeking exemptions to the Dress Code due to religious beliefs, ethnic or cultural background, student disability, health condition or economic hardship are encouraged to contact the relevant Assistant Principal to discuss this further. Parents are required to provide an explanation if their child is out of uniform (N.B. students are not permitted to wear substitute jackets / tops an explanatory note is required and a replacement item will be issued for the day). Evaluation: The Uniform Policy shall be reviewed on a biennial basis. Dionne Fenton Principal David Lord College Council President
