Summer Dance Intensive Parent Information The AACPS Summer Dance Intensive is different from a dance camp. This is a physically and mentally demanding program during which we expect dancers to improve technically, quickly learn and perfect choreography, and learn about other aspects of dance (i.e., nutrition, costuming, history, famous choreographers, performance qualities, audience etiquette, etc.). Other than short breaks between classes and lunch, dancers are physically active all day. Dance Intensive can be used for the summer bridge required of our Performing and Visual Arts magnet students. Bring completed PVA form for the SDI Director to sign. Intensive hours are 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday Thursday* Sign-In: 7:45 AM, Sign-Out: 3:30 PM in Old Mill High School Cafeteria (except Thursday) * On Thursday, dancers stay at Intensive for dress rehearsal, pizza party (provided), and preparation for the evening performance. Dancers are picked up after the 7 PM concert on Thursdays. Drop Off and Pick Up is only at the rear of the school in the bus parking lot. If dancers are not being transported by their parents, list ALL individuals who have permission to transport your child on the camper information form (Page 5). Parents of self-transporting dancers, must fill out the appropriate information on the Camper Information form, giving their permission for the dancer to sign only themselves in and out. Any changes or additions to those dropping off and picking up must be emailed to Dance@aacps.org before the first day of Intensive. Please allow extra travel time on the first day as Intensive begins promptly at 8:00 AM. Please schedule appointments around Intensive. Where: Old Mill High School Complex, 600 Patriot Lane, Millersville, MD 21108 Directions: From I-97, take either the New Cut Road exit traveling south or the Benfield Road exit traveling north and get on Veterans Highway. Turn onto Old Mill Road (McDonalds on the corner). Old Mill Road turns into Oakwood Road. Turn left on Shetlands Lane. At the end of Shetlands Lane you will see the middle school on the left, then a round building. To the right side of the round building is the entrance to Dance Intensive. What to expect? Class in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Performance Choreography, and rehearsal each day Special activity on a dance topic during lunch each day Commemorative T-shirt (one per dancer) DVD of rehearsals and concert (one per family). Note: All communication with parents will be done through group emails. We must have a working parent email for each dancer.
