Agenda: Bronaugh FFA Chapter Meeting March 31, 2011 I. Opening Ceremonies II. Minutes of Previous Meeting III. Old Business a. Ag I and Ag II students attended the District Greenhand Conference at MSU on1/5/11 Cydnee Piper b. State Degree Selection @ Jasper on 1/27/11 Mr. Wait c. Congratulations on a successful FFA Week Celebration 2/20-2/25 i. FFA Breakfast made $250, need to spread the word better next year Clayton Cox ii. Greenhand Day, all Greenhands have been initiated and are on track to receive their Greenhand Degrees at the FFA banquet in April. iii. Farm Safety Day Susie Hartman iv. Food For America Day Monique Campos v. Petting Zoo Raeann Mader vi. Teacher Appreciation/Official Dress Day (point out group photo and great job on everyone who wore official dress) Wesley Smith d. Area 9 Banquet Clayton Cox i. Clayton Cox and family, Sarah Houk and family, D.J. Beason and family, Raeann Mader, Monique Campos, Derek Stark, Brandan Evans, Michaela Reedy, Erin Reedy, and Mr. Wait attended the Area 9 Banquet on 2/24/11. ii. Clayton Cox placed 1 st with a proficiency award in Ag Sales iii. Sarah Houk Placed 3 rd with a proficiency award in Ag Processing iv. Clayton Cox, Sarah Houk, and D.J. Beason received their Area Degrees e. TJ Goodwin, Chelsea Poe, and D.J. Beason attended the Area 9 TSA event on 3/3/11 and passed the Livestock Judging TSA.

f. Susie Hartman and Emily Peterson attended the MSU horse judging clinic on 3/4/11 in Springfield. g. Samantha Whitworth was selected for an interview to attend the Missouri Agribusiness Academy. Great job on being selected for an interview. This is for sophomores only so those of you that will be sophomores next year I encourage you to apply for this opportunity. h. Chance Wait, Thomas Kerbs, Erin Reedy, Cydnee Piper, and Samantha Whitworth attended the East Newton Leadership Jackpot on 3/7/11. The knowledge team of Chance, Thomas, Erin, and Cydnee placed 9 th overall. Chance placed 10 th overall in Creed speaking. Cydnee placed 4 th overall in Division I prepared speaking. Samantha placed 4 th in Division II prepared speaking. i. Derek Stark and Jenni McFarland attended the Southwest Center Dairy Foods Workshop on 3/10/11. j. Chance Wait, Cydnee Piper, Anna Gray, Rachel Bishop, Kevin Wyland, and Megan Yokley attended the Comstock Livestock Contest on 3/11/11 and placed 12 th overall. Chance was the 10 th high individual. k. Chance Wait, Thomas Kerbs, Erin Reedy, Cydnee Piper, and Samantha Whitworth attended the Area 9 FFA contest s at Sarcoxie on 3/15/11. The knowledge team of Chance, Thomas, Erin, and Cydnee placed 7 th overall and advances to District competition. Chance placed 1 st overall in the Creed Speaking and advances to District competition. Cydnee placed 3 rd overall in the Division I Public Speaking and advances to District competition. Samantha placed 2 nd in the Division II Public Speaking and advances to District competition. Susie Hartman s FFA scrapbook also took 2 nd overall in Area competition. l. The Dairy Food, Horse, Meats, Creed, and speech teams competed at the McDonald County contest on 3/19/11. The horse team of Samantha Whitworth, Emily Peterson, Susie Hartman and Ruger Cox placed 7 th overall with all members placing in the top 40 individually. Chance Wait placed 1 st in Creed speaking and Cydnee placed 1 st in Division I public speaking. m. On 3/21/11 Samantha Whitworth, Cydnee Piper, and Chance Wait attended the Crowder Speaking Contest. Chance placed 1 st in Creed Speaking, Cydnee placed 4 th in Division I prepared speech, and Samantha place 5 th in Division II prepared speech. n. The Dairy Foods team of Derek Stark, Brandan Evans, Sarah Houk, and Jenni McFarland attended a Dairy Foods Workshop on 3/22 at NEVC.

o. The Ag Mechanics, Livestock, Horse, Dairy Foods, Meats, and Knowledge teams competed at the Crowder Aggie Days contest on 3/24/11. p. The Ag Mechanics, Livestock, Horse, Dairy Foods, Meats, and Knowledge teams competed at the Skyline Contest on 3/26/11. The horse judging team placed 6 th overall with Susie placing 8 th high individual and Emily placing 26th. Chance placed 25 th high individual in the livestock contest. q. On 3/29/11 the Horse Judging team of Susie Hartman, Samantha Whitworth, Ruger Cox, and Emily Peterson competed at the NEO horse judging contest and were the 3 rd highest Missouri team. IV. New Business a. Fort Scott Community College Aggie Days on 4/1/11. Bus leaves at 7:00am b. District Competition for Creed, Prepared Public Speaking I & II at MSU. Leave at 8:00am c. Nevada Steer and Heifer Prospect Show at the Vernon county Fairgrounds on 4/2 & 4/3. See Mr. Wait for more Info. d. District Contest for Livestock, Dairy Foods, and Knowledge on 4/4/11. Leave at 6:30 am. The time we leave may change so make sure you check with Mr. Wait on Friday. e. District Contest for Horse, Meats, and Ag Mechanics on 4/5/11. Leave at 5:30 am. f. Allen County on 4/7/11 has been cancelled for Livestock due to EOC testing here at school. g. On 4/10/11 we will be having our Spring trash pick-up for our Adopt-a-Highway program. We will meet at the school at 3:00pm. Invite family and friends to help! h. OEF steer DNA needs to be postmarked by 4/15/11. Lamb, Goat, and Pig need to be postmarked by 5/15/11. i. State FFA Convention is 4/14 & 4/15. We leave after school on 4/13. D.J., Sarah, and Clayton will be receiving their Missouri State Farmer Degrees and Sable and Tori have been selected to participate in the State FFA Choir. Mr. Wait anticipates several others qualifying to go through contest team participation. j. The Forkner Pig sale is 4/16/11 at 6:30pm. The Comstock pig sale is 4/30/11.

k. Show Me Quality Assurance (SMQA) certification is 5/3/11 and 5/31/11 at 6:30pm in the Fair Diner. If you are going to show any livestock this summer at the County, District, or State Fairs you MUST have this certification. It is Free to obtain. l. Sheep and Goat Weigh-in is Wednesday, June 1 st from 6-7pm at the Vernon County Fairgrounds. m. We need a girl who is willing to run for VCYF Royalty. See Mr. Wait for more details. n. Anyone showing pigs at the VCYF Ear notch forms are due Monday, May 16 th at the extension office. See Mr. Wait if you are showing a pig at the VCYF. o. The Vernon County Youth Fair is July 11-16 th this year. Our Chapter will be assigned a trash pickup time and a pop shack work time during this week. Please schedule summer trips around this week so you can participate. p. Anyone interested in running for Rodeo Royalty this year please see Mr. Wait. q. We will be sponsoring a Super Teen Contest Team this year at the VCYF. See Mr. Wait if you are interested in being on the team. r. Our Annual FFA Banquet and Labor Auction will be on April 28 th. Opening ceremonies will start at 6:30 pm in the school cafeteria. Families and guests are invited to attend. All members are expected to attend as everyone will be receiving some type of award or recognition. Mr. Wait needs 4-5 people to volunteer to help cook and cut up meat on 4/23. Or if anyone knows someone that would be willing to cook the meal please let Mr. Wait know asap. s. Officer tryouts for next year s officers will be 4/21 right after school. We will be reducing our officer team back to only the 6 main offices in order to increase efficiency and officer commitment. Applications are due returned back to Mr. Wait by 4/12 at 3:12pm. Late applications will not be accepted. Tryouts will consist of: 50 question FFA knowledge test, complete list of FFA activities and accomplishments, and an interview. V.
