Thank you for allowing us to do what we love most provide one of the finest Alaskan hunting and fishing experiences around. Curly Warren, Master Guide, Stoney River Lodge Justin Porter was with us for 1st time 2014 and is considering an SRL sheep hunt after taking this 71 inch 244 B&C point monster. Jeff Sinner took a 37 inch ram and 8 foot grizzly on 14 day hunt with us August 2014. Supporting Our Troups Tom Kreher took a good grizzly with SRL in 1988. On his 4th hunt with us fall 2014, he took this great 8 foot 8 inch bear.
4th hunt with SRL, Joe McCleskey took nice black bear and caribou and got some quality fishing with his brother and sister-inlaw August 2014. On 3rd SRL hunt with dad & brother, Randy Hawkins took this great 62 incher within 200 yards of spike camp with Dave. Curly, I want to thank all of you at the lodge. I had a wonderful time and a great experience. I want to individually thank you and Betty for being super gracious hosts, welcoming me and making me feel comfortable. A special thanks to Mitch and Brian who gave me some of the highlights of my trip. Flying in the Super Cubs is something I ll never forget. Thanks to Brian for all the great dinners. Thanks to the other staff members for cleaning up, hauling my moose, cleaning my cabin, and so many other things that made for an excellent trip. Lastly, thanks to Dave for being a wonderful guide and a great person to hang out with in the woods. I had such a wonderful time that I have decided that I would like to hunt bears with Joe I the spring 2015 and I d like to also book another moose hunt fall 2015 season. Fantastic bull!! 2nd timer Mark Lercel finished sheep hunt early and got in some char, grayling, silver salmon & sheefish this year. Mogens Christensen took a black bear on 2013 hunt and returned from Denmark to bag 8 foot grizzly and 62 inch moose. On their honeymoon hunt, Denver & Angie Echternkamp shot good caribou bulls with Ron August 2014.
2nd SRL hunt for Mark Lercel yielded quality ram and a little sheefish fishing. Hi Curly I want to thank you, Betty, Joe and crew for another, possibly the best, visit to Stoney River Lodge. Guess I m a habitual. A friend looked at this bear picture and replied Wow! Is that your biggest bear? So far. Another said, You saw 15 bears? That was one day. He returned to CT with quality caribou and black bear after 7 day August 2014 hunt. Derek White booked a spring grizzly hunt and 2015 moose hunt after taking good bull on 2014 hunt!! Rich Hawkins Sr. hoped to take a better bull than a great 64 er he took on a 2003 hunt with us. Last day of his hunt he settled for this beauty. Reading your story about the black bear and beaver trapping just leaves me with a big smile. You have a wonderful place but unpredictable. I was of course very happy to come back to you this year and even more happy as the hunt went so well. Meet The Guys Joe Mott Guiding for Stoney River Lodge both spring & fall hunters continuously since 1986, as well as fishermen for the past several seasons. Joe has been in on well over 100 successful grizzly hunts and probably even more successful moose hunts. He has accounted for over 40 successful sheep clients. He has been quoted in several hunting books and publications and guided several hunters for national TV hunting shows. Joe is always on staff when Stoney River Lodge has clients. Mike Knapp Guided our clients continuously since 1994. Mike does it all. Trapper and animal control specialist. Mike lives to be outdoors and lives to hunt. We regularly get comments from his hunters about what a hard hunter he is. Mike always finds game, he is Iron Man of the tundra. BRYCE JOHNSON Bryce is always hunting, guiding, trapping or fishing with SRL clients or family. Bryce started guiding our hunters in 2008 with many years of hunting experience and has never looked back. He seldom has a hunter with unfilled tags at end of hunt. Repeat hunters that he has guided typically request him as guide. MiTCH HALE Every season since 2003 Mitch brings a lot to Stoney River Lodge. Several top quality well equipped beautifully maintained airplanes, a ton (14,000+ hours) of off airport bush flying experience, a keen eye for places to safely land where nobody else ever has and a totally can do attitude. An accomplished licensed aircraft mechanic and inspector as well as licensed assistant guide. DAVE HENSEL Dave came on board 2010 after serving our country as USMC sniper. He brings great woodsman/guiding skills. Hunters always have good time and get Dave s A game, while taking a lot of nice trophies Ron Douglas Ron has guided for 20 years from Alaska to Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Wyoming. He is hunting or guiding some where for 6 months out of the year. Nearly all his clients fill their tags and want to hunt with Ron again.. Brian Hudson Brian came on board with us last spring with a ton of culinary skills, a great attitude and 14 years experience creating high quality meals.
