CREW Captain Robert Lloyd Robert was introduced to sailing from the age of 5. Beginning as so many do, on the optimists, before progressing to pico and lasers at Hawley Lake Training centre. Sailing continued as a hobby at school which involved inter school regattas on occasion. This hobby turned professional in 2007 when Robert completed two successful flotilla seasons in the Greek Ionian. Liking the idea of a hobby being worked as a means of employment, He turned his attention to bigger yachts whilst travelling NZ. Robert began his yachting career on an Oyster 82 as a mate and quickly learnt what it would take in this line of work. Following this he spent four exciting and adventurous years on board a 175 modern classic, where he cruised the Pacific, Chilean fjords, Southern Ocean, Mediterranean, Caribbean and North America. The opportunity arose to complete his Chief Mates ticket and assume the role of 1st Officer, and more recently he acquired his Master 500. Robert and Courtney have been working together for over three years and look forward to using their combined experience into providing a wonderful time for guests on board Penelope. Chef Courtney Elkerbout Courtney is from the small rural town of Marton, New Zealand. Growing up on the water back home Courtney combined her love of this and her inner adventurer and took to Europe in search of work on yachts early 2012. 5 years down the line she has worked in the interiors of both sail and motor yachts of various sizes. Beginning her yacht career as a stewardess, Courtney then found it an obvious choice to transition into the galley full time after attending The Grange Cookery School in Somerset, England. Being brought up in a family owned bar and restaurant she has always grown up around the heat and hype of a busy kitchen. She too, like Robert, has been fortunate enough to visit some amazing destinations off the beaten track. Courtney loves immersing herself into new environments and cultures and especially thrives on sampling new flavours and cuisines to incorporate these in her dishes. Outside the galley Courtney is a keen diver, she enjoys a good hit on the tennis court and loves to entertain friends and family with delicious home cooked food. PENELOPE
